Other Games / Re: The most complex games
« on: June 18, 2016, 02:23:21 pm »
A lot of Matrix's games are quite complex - apart from those mentioned already I highly recommend Command Modern Air/Naval Operations which is probably the most realistic naval and air warfare simulator available now and also I recommend Hearts of Iron III with Black Ice mod and its Total War sub-mod, it is hard to get more complex than that.

I also recommend Command Modern Air/Naval Operations if you have any interest for a hyper-realistic post wwii tactical naval/air simulator. And of course DCS world, like flying the A-10.

General Discussion / Re: For those who also think Scrum is awful
« on: March 31, 2016, 01:30:11 am »
A former colleague of mine phrased it that way: "How could the engineers let it happen that the non-technical people got so much control over them?"
I think it is because business people (without having the intention to insult anyone) are better in manipulating people in general and are  more assertive than the usual developer.

A lot of developers/engineers (me too) are introverts. They wanna work on an interesting topic. They don't wanna argue and discuss nonsense over and over in meetings like if a review should take 60 or 90 minutes or how long everybody is supposed to speak in discussions.

General Discussion / Being overall awesome is a plus
« on: March 06, 2016, 09:27:19 am »
You know, sometimes it is quite funny reading job descriptions.

In one job description for a software developer, I've found this:
"Being overall awesome is a plus"

So, what is being overall awesome, is there a scientific description for this available to decide if I belong to this special group, lol.

Armoured Commander is not your daily roguelike, instead you play as a tank commander in WWII....altough it is in its early development stage (alpha), it already makes fun.

Galactic Civilication II has a good AI and does not cheat on standard levels - in contrast of the AI of Civilization..

Life Advice / Re: Big meetings and being an introvert

Also if you're drinking a lot of coffee/tea, I'd advise to tone it down because that can cause anxiety as well.

Yup, in former times I've had 5 cups of coffee / day and I've reduced it to one coffee for breakfast. It helps a little...

some nice insights, guys...thx for that.

Yes, I'll get nervous around a lot of people, especially when I do not know them well...like smeeprocket described it. And alcohol is definitely not an option for me...

I'll have to learn to relax in those situations and yoga might actually be helpful here...

Life Advice / Big meetings and being an introvert
« on: November 16, 2014, 01:02:44 pm »
So, I'm a pretty introvert. I've no problems with this usually but in my job I'm forced now to work more and more in big working groups, where people discussing and presenting stuff.

Being with several people in a room for hours (and not all are easy going) stresses me a lot....I'm very tired at the evening and my neck muscles are tense.

I do occasionally sports and that helps but of course not during the long meetings.

I think the root cause is that I always think too much....so for example does it make sense what I am saying....do the other colleagues respect me and so on....so more or less negative self-assessment.
I've read in a book about introverts that this is common in this group but I have not found good counter-measures against it, yet :-(

Have other guys here similar issues and maybe some advice ?
