LOL! Next we'll discover that we live next door to each other or something. :P

Indeed I am on the AE forums as well and I still miss LSN terribly. A couple of players are working out ways to play head to head LSN games without the turn server. So far it works but is awfully clunky.

Well your avatar is instantly recognizable, heh.

On topic: The elves continue to come in peace (spoilsports), but at least the goblin action is hotting up now. I've had awful problems getting enough wood for making charcoal, and I'm beginning to get a bit teasy that my maps never provide any coal. I'm heading straight for the magma at the moment, so that might solve my problems. I got tired of replacing my ill-equipped military dudes, so I've invested my metal in a corridor of weapon traps instead. It's rather satisfying to watch them charge in and explode.

@Newbunkle: I've heard of that bug, beware, they'll only stay friendly until another siege/ambush shows up... So what I'm saying is, keep 'em outside. :P

I'm keeping my eye on them at the moment, but since we've had an elven caravan visit I'm not so sure I'll get an ambush. I pressed 'c' and the civilization list shows we're at peace, where before it showed a big red 'W. Maybe that'll change, I don't know. Fingers crossed.

I just lost my favorite militia dwarf (nicknamed 'Nosferatu' due to his habit of biting goblins in the neck and tearing arteries open) to a failed mood that near as I can tell was caused by the total lack of wool in my .16 fort I'm playing in .25 <sigh>.

Crikey, you seem to get everywhere. I played LSN briefly some time ago, and I think I've also seen you on the Armageddon Empires forum. We must stop meeting like this, lol.

I reclaimed my fortress that was annihilated by elves, but now our civilizations seem to have made peace and there are friendly elves wandering around on the map. Now an elven caravan has turned up too.

That's a little disappointing. I was looking forward to all-out war with the little buggers. I could still slaughter them, but it's not the same if they don't fight back.

Post save please! or world parameters, I've been on a futile quest for a .25 elf war for far too long.

I had to google how to recover the information, but I think this file contains all you need.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I used the basic world gen, and I don't think I made any changes except to turn the world size down a bit for FPS reasons. I just used whatever dwarven civilization they assigned me to, so I don't know which one is at war.

Whipdeer has just suffered an embarassing incident. I somehow failed to notice my civilization was at war with the elves before I embarked. The ambush came as a complete surprise. Worse still, I'd neglected to make a meeting area inside, so most dwarves were still loitering around the wagon when I had the bridges raised. Now, a dozen or so miserable dwarves hide from the pointy-eared menace outside. Screams can be heard as dwarves are killed left and right. One farmer has been repeatedly stabbed in the head with a spear for the last two minutes.

Update: BOTH of my legendary miners went beserk after I returned to the game. The fortress is now a tomb, occupied by the one surviving miner. Only two dwarves remain alive on the surface, but the elves are still giving chase.

We're doomed, but you can guarantee my next fortress will devote itself to the business of elf-slaying. Oh yes.

Most of my new embark site covers a good mountain biome which was a complete accident. I only noticed when I saw all the little bubble bulbs everywhere.

But what's truly awesome about this site is that the mountain is simply riddled with native gold and microcline. Think of the gorgeous structures I'll be able to build!

Wonders never cease! I have discovered actual bituminous coal in a 0.31.25 fort. Never thought I'd live to see the day.

Good thing too, the surface isn't very heavy on trees and I've yet to colonize the caverns.

Grrr. The only times I've ever found coal post-0.31.18 is by cranking the minerals up to the max.

Working on my first above-ground fort.  It's actually pretty fun, despite the lack of Fun so far.

I did finally encounter badgers, though.  I was intimidated by stories I'd heard on the forums, as well as the sheer numbers - there had to be at least a dozen of them.  I quickly got over any fears, however, when a marksdwarf walked into the group and strangled one of them to death.

You haven't known fear until you find the giant badgers.

This. I lost an eight-month old fort recently when three giant badgers wandered into my base through an unfinished wall and then couldn't find their way out. In fact, I think the mason may have gone and finished the wall after they were inside. I'm not 100% but I was too busy following the carnage to check.

Those look fantastic!

Also... Mmm, microcline! Best stone ever.

I've played through this a few times. It's the best one in the series IMO.

I was playing an emulated version myself before Christmas, but I had a problem and needed to do a system restore after recruiting monochromon. And I HATE recruiting monochromon.

If I remember to come back and follow this I will. Awesome. :)

"...still, I can't help but feel like I'm forgetting som-Oh god. Urist! URIST STOP!!! We have enough doors!"

Hahaha. Reminds me of the time I tried to queue up a hundred bins using the job manager and got a hundred cabinets instead.

I can't wait to get lost in those cities.  Way back when I remember Toady saying that he wants you to be able to have a full adventurer without ever having to leave a major city.  Wonder what kind of quests will be available... Muggers? Fugitive hunting? Monsters causing trouble in the sewers? Haunted manors need clearing? Pizza delivery?

That's what I loved about Daggerfall. I loved exploring and raiding dungeons, but the cities were much more vibrant and alive, even if my imagination was filling in a lot of the blanks. It's a pity the towns got smaller as the series went on.

It was awesome arriving in town and reading those notice boards by the gate that gave news of disease outbreaks and wars. I loved leaving my inn in the night to go and burgle some store, and then getting attacked by muggers who were hiding in alleys. And in the city of Daggerfall itself, you'd hear that ghostly voice shouting "vengeance!" and be attacked by ghosts.

The new cities might be what encourages me to give adventure mode a serious try. I for one am very excited.

3 of 7 dwarves were killed by skeletal cod. One of the named cod was killed before I could get a translation of its name (Semorokun). I don't think I can find out what it means now because there's no body. Unless a translator exists?

you can translate it yourself, look here:
your DF folder -> raw -> objects -> language_DWARF
ctrl+f semor
ctrl+f okun

Oh awesome, thanks!

It's called Unionshrine. Well... I suppose you can't be overworked if you're dead, right?

Badgers are fricking awesome. I lost an entire fort when giant badgers bit the limbs off of half my embark team, left one insane, and the rest in comas. And I loved it.
