After a few failures this fort finally made me an artifact axe. Worth 1,7 mil encircled with some wood, bone, leather, white opal and star ruby and a picture of my favorite (dead) adventurer Reg Slingwrung the Livid Gladness of Tempests in star ruby (and one of an artifact spear from the same fort in kimberlite). I'm up to 112 dwarves again (pretty much everyone still has fb crap on his shoes tho and it's everywhere outside still despite abusing dfcleanmap).

Alright, after fucking up my pump stack 2 times due to leaking magma spilling water on the aquifer holding ice walls I've finally rebuilt it all without any chance for magma to leak back in.
Now all pumps are fucking frozen elsewhere. Any ideas what's going wrong?

Have a dwarf hunting for a few years in mountains for example. The thing that works best is paved roads, as they will not only remove the broken arrow graphic but also stop new ones from showing up.
So... go and pave that embark (spell out something witty with different colors)!

That only gives a count of shore tiles, and is no indication of whether there is anything to catch there from my experience.

There was nothing to catch in any cavern. The only things i could have hunted are swimming in 2-3 z-level deep water.
Did anyone ever have success fishing in the caves? I want my cave lobsters.

I found one with an adventurer once, if it's inhabited by kobolds there is jewelry littered all over the place. And some civilian and a few thief kobolds were around, too. A cave often leads to cavern layer one.

The dust forgotten beast probably is going to be this forts downfall. The four soldiers who fought it immediately bled to death. The disease spread quickly the siege that was routed outside by the soldiers who picked up the dead squads armor and weapons certainly didn't help. People bled to death in quick succession and the tantrum spiral kicked in. I have been slacking mainly because i've been bored with this fort so there's no central cleaning trench or civilians in clothing.
One guy stood on a stack of forgotten beast intestines tantruming and throwing single pieces in all directions (looked so funny). This is the first spiral for me on a mature fort (11 years now) and I'm having a blast.

Update:
All military dwarfs survived because death didn't bother them. One civilian also survived. 2 squads were taken off duty to help put down the coffins who our legendary mason soldier made. About 130 coffins and a slab (some guy decided to jump into the magma pool i guess) later everything was cleaned up. Another siege came and was destroyed, and some migrants arrived despite the danger \o/ (the game sure runs fast with 24 dwarfs especially if almost all have godly physical stats thanks to 11 years of training).

I have helms, breastplates, greaves, boots, gauntlets assigned as uniforms.

Can you assign anything else, such as cloaks and hoods, for the bits the armour doesn't cover?

Or does it clash?

You defintely want to add mail shirts, as breastplates only cover the body and gauntlets only extend to the lower arms. That aside, you can add 6 cloaks and 3 hoods and a pair of mittens on top of everything else.

You want to use uniforms to equip your soldiers. n to define a new one M to change materials. assign uniforms with U.

All blunt attacks always glanced off in fortress mode, they weren't head attacks tho so i dunno about that. What will work is anything iron or better with edge attacks (spear,sword,axe,etc.). Just keep hacking away till the bits come off.
