DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Adventure Mode Little Questions Thread
« on: January 10, 2011, 02:48:36 pm »
I just dodged into a pool i would really hate to lose this adventurer, but i was stunned from the fall (only novice swimmer) and am now drowning and can't alt-move to safety. Is there any way I can still get out?

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your adventure?
« on: January 10, 2011, 01:44:54 pm »
Dodok is travelling through the rosy hills looking for the lair of one this worlds last dragons. Being ambushed by goblins every two steps is taking its toll on his companions. Luckily he didn't recruit them indiscriminately so one particularly muscular human lasher now has 9 kills to his name and earned a title. Nevertheless the starting party of 7 has been decimated down to 5 and whether they will make it to the lair still remains uncertain. While travelling the party discovered the source of the goblin infestation in the form of a dark fortress (if only they could waltz in there and rid that civilization from the map once and for all).

-dwarves using adamantine threads for surgery
-the dwarven socks-over-boots dilemma
-dwarves never changing clothes

These so very, very much.
Also dwarves using adamantine cloth for wound dressings, and dwarves using new cloth and thread in the hospital instead of the ones stored there already.
If we get a uniform assignable to all non military dwarfs that would be a huge improvement.
And of course as pretty much everyone stated already, them contaminants.

I also had this problem, i had a 4x4 (floors) crossbowtower, it should have been possible to fit 10 dwarfs up there, but i only had 4 and when they stand on the wrong side to hit something its rather annoying.
If you train them up to legendary they will have no problem to shoot through the fortification at least.

My third fort was in the same region as my first fort. 80% of engravings related to the flight of a dwarf from the first fort into the Axe of Notching (the region). At least a few engravings and some images on artifacts showed my last adventurer Reg Slingwrung, who killed many hydras, dragons and titans.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Bronzes vs. Iron
« on: January 10, 2011, 06:23:34 am »
The wiki says you are wrong (it lists iron > bronze for 3.18), but some small testing in arena mode showed that bronze and iron are pretty much equal.

DF Gameplay Questions / Civilization leaders
« on: January 10, 2011, 05:30:08 am »
One of two dwarven cilizations in my current world lost it's leader in a fortress of mine. Someone once told me they will appoint a new leader if I pass enough time in adventuremode, but I also read that history only evolves during world creation.
Can anyone confirm whether civilizations appoint new leaders in dwarfmode / adventuremode?
Anectotal evidence would be very much preferred, as i already have two conflicting answers.

If your fortress did anything of importance (killing some fb, megabeasts) you can ask humans for surroundings enough and they will rather sooner come up with the name of your fort and a story about how a cyclops was killed there.
Alternatively you can start a new dwarf mode game and select (R)eclaim to locate your fort, then remember the location (easier the smaller the world is). You could also export a map from legends mode. Or just keep starting new adventurers until one starts close to the fort (that's what i usually do).
Keep in mind that the demons will probably still be there, so you might want to train your adventurer first  ;D

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Worldgen Anomalies
« on: January 10, 2011, 04:46:58 am »
My world went through the standard progression over the course of 3 forts and 2 adventurers (Myth->Legends->Heroes).
I'm gonna try to kill of the rest of the megabeast with my adventurer now (judging by legends there's around 20 left).

Start by creating a burrow and define it, name it something like "inside". Add every part of your fort to it. You can designate in 3d, so to add your main staircase just go to its top and the topleft of that then go down to the bottom and press enter again on its lower right. Once you have all of your forts inside blinking, go to the military screen (m). There go to alerts (a). Select an alert (active/training is fine) with up/down and go to the right were it says burrows. Press enter on your inside burrow. There should now be an 'A' next to it, meaning civilians will be restricted to that burrow when the alert is set to civilian alert. Now whenever you are under attack go to alerts and press enter on the active/training alert a *civ* should show up to the left of it. This will cause any civilian to drop all jobs that require them to leave your fort. Once the outside is safe go to alerts and press enter on the inactive alert the *civ* will move there and your civilians are free to go where they want again.

So you did remove the max_edge tag and if you make an obsidian stockpile next to your mason workshops they still don't use it to make doors and tables?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: dorms vs. rooms
« on: January 09, 2011, 10:18:34 pm »
Every dwarf even the most useless one gets a 3x3 room, complete with cabinet and if i have time a chest. Doctors get a room next to the hospital. Married couples get a second bed. For 150 dwarfs that was still only 2 z-levels of screen filling living space in an inefficient design. Once you know you get 20ish migrants waves multiple times a year it's just a matter of trading all wood from the caravans and making 30 bed orders. With my current pop cap of 150 the madness was over after a few years anyway.
