Dig out a room preferably near your cage stockpile, make sure there's room for a small corridor above it.
Access to that room can be from above via stairs or a door from the side (from above is better). After digging out the room and the corridor channel away the floor at the end of the corridor. Build a hatch cover over the resulting open space. From (i) zones menu make a one tile zone on the hatch cover. Make it a (p)it. In the zones menu again set (P)it properties, assign whoever you want (preferably one at a time) to the pit. Place upright spikes or station your militia in the room below at your leisure. If you want add a raising draw bridge linked to a lever to crush the remains of the prisoners.
You can also channel away a deeper drop if you still have room below so the prisoners break some bones on the landing, or make it really deep and have them explode on impact.
Fill the room with water or magma... the possibilities are endless.

Just got the queen on my latest embark. Sadly she only stands at the map edge tagged as friendly. The consort with the legendary soldiers made way to the fort fine. Anyone have an idea what could be causing this? She's the same queen as from my last fort as it's the same civilization and i abandoned with everything intact. Any suggestions what i could do to make her move? :>
Also i accidentally carved a fortification in a candy tube and spawned some clowns. If i abandon this fort will it be overrun by clowns when i come back in adventure mode?

To the cavern guy: Caverns can be connected either by passages or just by overlapping, when this happens you usually get the vegetation from the corresponding cavern levels depending on z-levels. Not all caverns have all types of trees but if there's only fungiwood and tower-caps you are in the first cavern.

To elaborate: (v)iew dwarf -> select (z) for status -> (k)ills (if there is no kills option the dwarf has no kills)
for held weapons (v)iew dwarf -> (i)nventory -> scroll to weapon with +-*/ (enter) -> (v) to view it's description.
I think if the weapon is {forbidden} in the inventory list it means the dwarf became attached to it. There's also a message whenever that happens.

You can select only stone blocks. Doesn't work for me however, unless i enable metal blocks too, dwarfs won't fill the stockpile with stone blocks. But since i never make metal blocks that's not a big deal.

The pop cap never stopped the king/queen from arriving for me. I normally get to like 210 dwarfs then the migrants stop, but when the king comes i end up with 220ish dwarfs.
About the children I'm not sure. It might be that they're only affected by the child cap.

My adventurer met his end at the hand of fucking goblins. He had a couple of hydras, titans and dragons under his belt. He was a legendary Axedorf and training to become a legendary Hammerdorf. I got ambushed by goblins twice while sleeping. The second ambush had me surrounded by about 10 goblins and after taking out my axe it got stuck in the first goblin. There were like 3 or 4 goblins on that tile and i couldn't hit the right one to twist the axe out of it fast enough.
Is there any way to just twist the weapon out of an enemy you don't know which it is? Or find out which enemy your weapon is stuck in? Could i have alt-moved on a tile occupied by a goblin?

You can't get the king without getting a baron first, from my understanding. So if you abort you'll never be a mountainhome. Select a useless dwarf who doesn't have bad social treats, and only likes common items (like iron, donkeys, etc). Build some nice rooms big enough to hold all the furniture he'll need and build him a pump in his mausoleum he'll manually operate so he doesn't wander off and gets jealous at the commoners royal bedrooms.

In my current fort every time there is an ambush, I get a few goblin squads all with human leaders. Depending on whether the leaders make it off map after being attacked by their squads the squads will then either charge or camp at the map edge. This is very annoying as it creates stealthed squads camping at the map edge along with corpses my dwarf want to pick up. So i have to patrol the whole map after every ambush just so my dwarfs can go outside again. The sieges have no law-givers/generals however as the goblin civ has no leader, so at least the sieges are loyalty cascade free.
My guess is the human civ got wiped out by the goblins as there is no human civ on the civ screen. Why the kidnapped humans are still at war with the goblins doesn't make sense then as they have no parent civ anymore tho.

This seems to happen if a body part sustains more than one fracture. The only way i had a dwarf recover once was digging away the ground beneath him and make him drop one z-level. If the dwarf is in full armor he might need two z-levels tho. That dwarf broke his leg again in the drop (and an arm and a hand) but was patched up and made the recovery.

Plant processing is used for threshing and processing plants at the farmers workshop (pig tail->thread, quarry bush->quarry bush leaves bag, sweet pod->dwarven syrup). Milling is used at a quern or millstone to make the various flours, sugars and dye bags.

Floodgates can be building destroyed. I've had a forgotten beast do that to my cave lake floodgate. Had to plug the resulting leak with a cavein as the draining was killing my fps.

Normally all breath attacks go through fortifications. Dust can use cave-in dynamics however (depending on whether it's directed or selfcentered dust i think). You can check if cave-in dust goes through fortifications easily yourself tho. Since your dwarfs are legendary shield users you might be fine anyway, as breath type dust can be blocked just like any breath.

The best solution i found is a channeled out trench filled with 3/7 water. The blood will stay in the water where it can't contaminate dwarfs. You can then wait for a dwarf to clean the mess or run dfcleanmap. Watch the filling of the trench closely so you don't get the water higher than 3/7.
A 3x1 trench (should have up ramps at every tile) in front of the doors to the meeting hall is usually enough. Adding more at the fort entrance and at the entrances to the caverns won't hurt tho.

Everything went smoothly. The constant stream of goblins made only the good companions survive. My party appears to be made of battle hardened warriors now.
I also encountered dwarfs from my last fortress.
Recruited a legendary miner who keeps severing arms and legs left and right with his copper pick  :D
Alas i couldn't recruit the elite marksdwarf  :-[

So i was tasked to kill a hydra. Again. Since the last hydra died rather easily i went off with my 19 companions only to find out that its lair is apparently deep in goblin territory. I get ambushed every two map tiles by about 20 goblins. They are weak but still they bring down the number of my followers slowly but steadily. How hosed am I?
