How can i keep prepared food out of barrels?

It's probably an easy question but I hate it that when i thin out my stocks of plump helmets and make it into meals, the dwarves continue to toss em into barrels (which are there for BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOZE).

Problem i am facing is that i can undesignate barrels on one stockpile, but they just haul it to the other one.

How can i keep my prepared noms on one stockpile without the use of barrels whilst the other foods get put on my general stockpile?

I am going to follow this thread very carefully. I really have been searching for good custom/random world gens which got something special.

My gens always turn up as crappy ones and i end up genning 10-20 times to get a decent one.

He wants cloth thread and Block Bricks and i am pretty sure i got both...

I got this idea to create a dwarf airlock for my trade depot.

I personally hate to place the depot in my fort due to all the thieves and snatchers it brings and also the increased odds of ambushes. But if i place it outside it is basically throwing my trader and haulers into a gauntlet of death.

So i got this idea to build a little building in addition to the wall which includes a walled off trade depot with 2 drawbridges attached.

One of them connects to the outside so the traders come in, and the other bridge connects to the inside so that my dwarves can do the hauling and trading.

I am just wondering if i can create the airlock using only 1 lever. So that one bridge is always open and the other one always closed.

Is it possible to create such an airlock? Or am i forced to use two levers for it?

I did such a game a couple of weeks ago.

I managed to embark in a open spot where a river ran through and the only places open where actually the two river sides and a fording area at the rivers edge.

Build the first wall completely out of marble which i quickly found in the underground mines.
The mines in fact also function as my ''reeducation'' vocations forcing dwarves who where locked up to have a short (permanent) stint as the forced miners.

And just like Thatdude the ''housing'', if you dare to call it that, comprise of little crappy hovels made out of crappy puddingstone with barely any place to rest yourself. (If there was a dwarven equivalent to asbestos, i would have used that.)

And of course the lords and ladies where on the other side of the city guarded by walls and personal guards in their personal villa's and castles.

The people who are worth something in my fort e.g. legendary masons/gem cutters and so forth also where living in the upper class district whilst the peasants and plebs where rotting away in the gutters.

Just a fun note that the wall surrounding the upper class also had a bridge in case of a siege. And to perform diplomacy with the goblins i gave them a part of my gutter population.

Yup, i am a sadist.

EDIT: And of course with handy use of the burrows system i made sure no smelly pleb was too eat from the fancy dinners and use the expert doctors.

When you start doing Danger Rooms always outfit your dwarves with full armor kit.

Give them a shield too and you are sure that it will improve Armor/Shield and Dodging.

(And if you tweak the game a bit you can even make it so that it improve marksmanship and such.)

10 minute danger room which turns your dwarves into Legendary +5 Marksdwarfs.

But i personally don't use Danger Rooms, it isn't really needed when you get the cotton candy armor and weapons.

Even a 10 dwarf army kitted out with Steel are pretty godly against a lot of foes.

I got an odd problem with a dwarf that is in a mysterious mood.

I got everything he needs. 2x leather, 1x cloth, 1xbones

But after grabbing the leather and bones he refuses to grab cloth.
I got like 10 bins filled with various amount of cloth and silk and he just isn't going there and grabbing it.

Kinda annoyed and also worried that he will end up going crazy and start a tantrum spiral.

Does anyone here know any good uses for Lead?

Its useless for anything and i was wondering if you could make some nasty trap components with it.
I mean something like a pressure plate linked through a lead wrecking ball that decimates the entire corridor or something.
Or a huge ACME anvil that falls on top of your noggin

I don't mind less metal around, i quite like it a lot infact.

But the lack of flux and cokeable materials are annoying me.
Seeing a pile of hematite standing on the stockpile mocking my furnace operators because there is no coal to be found and also no wood to be burned.

But i will cope with it and dig on.
