Because of the ISG I'm running, I had to learn how to draw jolly clergymen.
Spoiler: Sketches (click to show/hide)
I'm happy with how the bottom-left one turned out. I used this Tumblr post as a reference for the top two sketches.

3) Politely decline and set off on your own. We're a highly-trained, disciplined martial artist. Rudeness doesn't seem like it'd fit.

I am Sun Wukong, Male. I want to look like a humanoid monkey. Where is my staff and cloud?

I need to know: do you read the webcomic Paranatural?
Yes. though Sun became interesting through a sci-fi book I recently read. Why?

With the big reveal of the Ed's spirit, someone commented that Muse resembled Sun Wukong. I thought that might have prompted your suggestion, but I guess not.

At any rate, you have excellent taste in webcomics.

Our name is Wolfram the Third.

Our human's name is Gunther.

Our family has kept his family as our mortal slaves for three generations. He is our mortal servant and even though he is somewhat stupid for not doing what we command him to do a lot of the time we still feel quite a lot of affection for him.

Rest, get a map from here to our destination, and buy some parchment for more magic maps. We could probably practice making the platform again or improving the design.
"What would you like to know?"

Jumpin' a bit ahead, there. :P You still haven't gotten answers yet. (Although more parchment and making the platform a permanent part of your repertoire are both very good ideas.)

May I reiterate that your art style is awesome? The town looks great.

Thanks!

Ask a pedestrian or guard where we can find the chaplain, then go see him.
+1 to both.

You approach a pair of nearby guards. "Could you please tell me where the -"

The shorter one interrupts you mid-sentence. "Hell's bells, girl, what happened to you?" He gestures at your face.

"I, um. I fell."

"And ended up like that? What'd you fall off, the roof of the cathedral?"

"Not... not quite, no. Speaking of the cathedral, could you tell me how to get to it?"

He nods and points off in the distance. "You can see its towers from here. Just wind through the streets in tha' direction and you can't miss it." You can see the tips of four stone edifices peeking over the rooftops in the direction he indicated.

"Okay. Thanks."

Seek out the chaiplan and ask the same questions. Also inquire about joining a caravan to leave this area..its so dangerous out here :(
+1

As you turn to walk away, you hesitate for a moment. Your brain feels foggy. "Do caravans pass through here often?"

The other guard answers. "Wrong season for it. Since the passes out west are blocked up, you only get traders coming up south. One came in a day or two ago. Probably not gonna get another for a week or two. Late summer, tha's when you get the merchants from out west sellin' supplies and buyin' up magic artifacts."

A colossal burst of air emanates from the first guard's nose. "Since when were you an expert on caravans?"

"My brother's works with one of Merbrook's wagons. Goes all 'round the world. He seen all kinds o' things."

"Yeah, the same brother who says they've got giant man-eating birds down south, twenty-foot tall bears up north..."

"Look, just because you've never stepped foot outside'a Fremminster doesn't mean nothin's out there."

"Let's just say your brother needs to lay off'a those crazy barbarian spices they keep bringin' in. Do funny things to a man's mind, you know."

Everything seems to have gone slightly blurry. "The birds are real," you say, trying to keep your focus. "Plains dragons. They don't eat men, though. Mostly small animals and fish. I don't know about the bears."

"See? What'd I say."

"Pshh. Elf girl's on the spice too."

You mumble another thank you and leave the guards to their argument. Everything feels strange, and you get the impression it'd be better to reach the cathedral sooner rather than later. After a minute, you feel somewhat better, but the unpleasant sensation of the ground shifting underneath your feet soon returns. You keep your eyes locked on the cathedral's spires.

As you draw near, shadows seem darker and lights brighter. A blurry fuzz creeps over your vision, gradually appearing and fading away, but you manage to reach the open gates to the cathedral's outer wall. Stumbling through the courtyard, you make your way into the cathedral itself. You remember a man greeting you, an incessant buzzing in your ears, and a falling sensation before -

You wake to the sight of a chubby, bald, elderly man's face peering intently into your eyes. "Ah, good! You're awake. Hold still for a moment..." He gently holds the skin around your right eye in position before releasing it and leaning back. "You took quite a blow to the head, I see."

"Where am I?" You look around. You seem to be lying on a small cot in a long room. Two of the room's wall are lined with evenly spaced cots, illuminated by the pale light streaming in through windows high above you.

The man stands up and spreads his arms with a warm smile. "Welcome to the Cathedral of Freyen." He grunts slightly as he lowers himself back down onto the stool. You notice he's wearing dark robes, trimmed with purple cloth. "I would have hoped you would come under better conditions, but the gods have their reasons for all things. You still have your life and will soon have your health again. Assuming, of course, you don't do anything foolish before you are well once more." He tilts his head with an expression of mock severity, eyes twinkling. "Now, I must ask. What caused this?" He reaches out and points to your left cheek.

"Well..."

"And then he said to look here for Sean Oathend," you finish your story.

"Alridh..." The priest sighs. "In any case, you've found the Reverend Oathend." He nods his head slightly. "I'll do my best to answer all your questions and then my wife will help you get cleaned up. What would you like to know?"

Creative Projects / Re: Creating a game
« on: May 06, 2015, 12:56:59 am »
Meanwhile, I have just realized I am already making games, and I hate it.

Programs like that suck. I'm actually planning on switching majors from computer science to animation for that exact reason.

Computer science courses are designed with an engineer's mindset (i.e. all logic and very little game design) and have the end goal of teaching someone to learn how to solve a set of someone else's problems with code. Useful, but not fun. It's way better if you learn to make games on your own instead of being told to create endless variations of simple puzzles and logic problems (they barely qualify as games as it is).

Seriously, fuck those programs. No, I'm not bitter.

...

(I'm really bitter.)

Try making a simple game you'd enjoy playing

Go do this. It's way more fun and, if you're moderately dedicated to improving, you'll learn just as quickly. I know people who have taken entry-level programming classes and come out the other end with tic_tac_toe.exe and pong.exe and whatever other BS they had to write to pass without understanding a single line of the code they wrote.

:"Remember that no one has been EVER been banned due to using caps, and due to that, all caps posts aren't destructive in the toad's eyes."

The Toad's views on caps lock are not due to a lack of bans. I think what you mean to say is that we can infer Toady's views on caps lock from the lack of related bans.

:................."I FUCKING NEW IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HONER!!!! At this time, it seems to be that this ones motive is clear!!!!!!!!! Instead of going after my RTD posts and such, he seems to be going after a specific target.......... OF A GAME THAT I'M PARTICIPATING IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As I have stated before, he has a definite dislike of me due a certain map game the said game is a squeal to......DUE TO ME TRYING TO PUT SCYTHERS IN THERE!!!!!!! AS YOU HAVE HEARD, I ALSO HAVE A CURSE THAT AFFECTS ME IN LOWER BOARDS TO DO POSTS OUTSIDE OF RPING AND () TO BE IN CAPS!!!! I have far more control over this than........ others. But still, the point is that THIS URIST IS TRYING TO PREVENT ME FROM POSTING ON THE FANTASY MAP GAME,  TO STOP ANY SCYTHERS FROM GETTING ON THE MAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HE IS SUEING ME TO PREVENT FREE SPEECH!!!!!
"As you can see here, not only Am I using caps in an IC post, ITS ALSO ON THE FRONT PAGE OF MY PROFILE, PROVING THAT URIST DIDN'T LOOK THAT WELL AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![/color"

I would like to add one count of failure to use width tags and another count of excessive punctuation to the charges against Poketwo. If you need your curse dealt with, I recommend making an appointment with your local priest or witch doctor to have it removed.

"Ugh...

I-I don't know... who are you?"

+1, most likely not.

Since I lost track of what has been happening i'm just going to +1 what everyone else thinks is a good idea.

"Ugh... I-I don't know. Who are you?"

"Alridh."

He crouches down until your feet touch the ground before lowering you off of his shoulder.

"If you don't know, then try."

You gingerly put weight onto your left leg and almost fall over. By leaning heavily on Alridh, you're able to hobble slowly along, though. Nothing seems to be broken, just bruised. You continue along the path, keenly aware that this man tried to kill you less than a day ago.

"So, uh. Where are we going right now?"

"Fremminster."

"...Which is...?"

"Nearest town. Safety."

Well, that's fortunate. You walk in silence for a time. Your leg muscles seem to be less stiff now, and you're able to (mildly painfully) walk on your own.

"What was that thing last night?"

Alridh glances down at you and then back forward at the path. "A child of Maradin." He takes a deep breath and exhales. "A reason to stay behind walls at night."

"And Maradin is..."

"Cat spirit."

"And the whole..." You make a mock ferocious gesture with your hands and fake a snarl. "...crazy berserk thing?"

"A better reason to stay behind walls."

You get the impression that you're not making much progress with this line of questioning.

After half an hour of walking, the town's walls come into sight. Alridh stops walking and faces you.

"This is where we part. Once you're inside the town's walls, seek out Sean Oathend, the chaplain in the Cathedral of Freyen. He'll tend to your wounds and give better answers than mine." He turns back towards the forest.

"Wait, where are you going instead?"

"Back. For my weapons and the corpse. Certain people need to see it." He looks down and then back at you. "Dark things are stirring. Keep your eyes open." He set off at a run and rapidly disappears from sight under the cover of the trees.

After a moment, you turn back towards the town walls and approach the gates. A guard calls down to the gatekeeper to open the massive wooden doors, which slowly creak inwards and grant you entry to Fremminster.

The town is larger than you expected. Pedestrians hurry through the streets and the sounds of civilization echo through the chilly morning air: the murmur of voices, the braying of animals, the clinking of hammers on metal and wood. Soldiers patrol along the walls and a banner you don't recognize - a yellow sword and bow on a green background - hangs from a post near the guard tower.
