As long as you designate it as a bedroom then they'll take it.  Otherwise they'll just take turns sleeping in it.

Or battle cattle.

Yeah, I know why they left.  It's just so infuriating that 9 military dwarves let a Giant Badger get within 3 tiles of my entrance, while I was distracted by bowgobs.  Bad timing with patrol orders, an ambush, and a Giant Badger conga line.  I assume the caravan guards were chasing but not actually fighting the GBs, and quit chasing them when the caravan declared us hostile.  Hopefully it won't affect the next caravan.
UPDATE: Apparently the GB in question got caught in a cage trap right before the camel passed out.  Mwuahahahahaha!

JMZ

Oh, right, sorry.  Guess I completely missed the context of the entire message.  My bad.  But hey, you got the vile badger at least.

Most likely since you captured the camel, provided it belonged to the caravan, they considered it a hostile act and left.

Aaaand... Swallowedgilt had one of the most pathetic deaths I've ever witnessed.  Winter came in year 6, I SOMEHOW ran out of booze despite 3 stills running full steam and I didn't even have 100 dwarves.  Not only did I run out of booze but my dwarves began to die one by one of thirst until a tantrum spiral happened. Who went berserk first?  My legendary brewer.  What did he do?  He broke all my stills.  What did he do after that?  Strangle a child.  What did he do after that?  Strangled a cat.  What did he do after that?  Punch a tantruming military guy in iron with an iron spear.

It all went down from there.  Well this sucks.  I wish I would have lost my fortress in a more... exciting way.

1. Look for your Save folder, look for your region (usually region1 if you have one game going), it has a copy of all the raws.  For majority of effects to take... effect you need to edit these raws, rather the the main ones in the main DF folder which take effect when worlds are regened.
2. Yes, as long as the raws are different.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: How do you manage your Dwarfs?
« on: April 25, 2011, 08:05:59 pm »
I give every dwarf everything, save my original 7 which is always 2 miners, 1 mason/carpenter, 1 fisher, 1 fish cleaner (if I embark on a place with water), 1 wood cutter, and 1 Military (Copper spear/shield and use him to defend my fort until I get more dwarves...) who is a farmer/herbalist until I find something hostile.  Everyone after them is everything, except fishing, mining, woodcutting, enabled until I get something legendary... then everything of theirs is turned off except whatever they became a legend in.

I really should get Therapist to do these things for me. :\

1. Make sure they have Quivers
2. Pray to Armok that they decide to train
3. Tell them to kill wildlife.  With wood/bone bows they make wildlife suffer horribly while they fill them with bolts.  Repeat until they kill wildlife in a reasonable amount of time.

I like Swallowedgilt... though it is a stupid name.  It's doing fairly well, at the very least.

I just learned when replacing/swapping military squads... that when you're forcing encouraging dwarves to join a squad if you look at their name you also see if they are already in a military squad and which one.  Man... that saves me a lotta trouble with replacing my replacements when I accidently placed them in a squad thus taking them from their original.

Only took me since 31.25, and 3 forts within, to figure it out!  I'm an idjit. :\

Dear Urist McArmedinsteel,

How in Armoks name did you die?  I put you out front to guard the gate from the hostile wildlife that like to wander into my fort and maul my dwarves.  Instead what did you decide to do?  You chased a goat.  Now not only did you chase a goat but you chased a goat into the pond.  Now not only did you transfer the goat into the pond you then decided to turn to ice in the pond.  Screw you.

Sincerly,
Your face palming overseer

Five Dwarfbucks says the ambush was goblins rushing to the fort to see their buddy in his new duds and went on a rampage when they learned they couldn't get their hands on the latest in goblin fashion.

For easy skill, and easy money, set one dwarf on a Craftdorf station and have the dwarf have crafts/mugs/instruments/toys on repeat.  Within a year you'll be flooded with pieces worth "Loads 'a' moneh!" with realitvely little material.  Keeps dwarves busy and assists in clearing up stone.

Plus the idea of rock boats is confusing.
