They'd certainly be shinier.

Not once it's covered in goblin gore from the heads it's bashed in.

In: I tell my dwarves to train in the danger room but they'd rather drink.

Out: Lewis, I have my kids in my room hoping to take a risk and Tayo.

I... ummm... what?

Dear Urist McPeasents,

I hope you and all your friends learned frm Urist McSacrificedMoronWhoRefusedToWork that DARING to state "No Job" for longer then one season leads to dire consequences.  When I give you a job, even something like Cheese Maker, I expect you to do it.  When I put up a massive hauling job, I expect you to do it.  When I make you a soldier, I expect you to spar.  But no, not Urist McSacrifice, he was quite content sitting in my dining room and kitchen stuffing his face.  Hey Urist McSacrifice, pull my lever that drops you 10 z levels.  Well what do you know, the first job you actually decided to do since you arrived, good on ya. Let Urist McSacrifice be a lesson to everyone.  Stating "No Job" kills.

-Your impatient overlord-

Beware the battle cattle — but don't fear the battle cattle!

Leave the fear behind but BEWARE THE BATTLE CATTLE!  (I knew there was a reason I made my cows war trainable)

Welp... after year 5 the fort Reveredpapers has been lost.  After the ambush that left me with enough dwarves for a single squad I put them together, outfitted them in their copper armor and weapons, and began the standard job of clearing the bodies of my latest ambush, cleaning up the blood, and taking the socks which my metalsmith liked to embed with zinc and lead (no idea why).  Before I knew it however I was in luck!  Migrants for a second squad AND my dwarven trade caravan full of iron and steel bars and equipment so I could outfit BOTH my squads in iron and steel!  What luck!  And while I was happily trading away I got the lovely message... "A vile force of Darkness has arrived!"  My second squad had about maybe 2 months of training under their belt and my main squad just finished removing their gear to go back to being civilians so I had to quickly tell them all to rush to the defense of my fort and so 20 dwarves stood at my entrance, 10 in iron/steel and 10 in leather/copper, and awaited the slaughter.  Then something else lovely happened.  An Ambush.  Then another.  Then another.  Then another.  4 ambushes of almost ALL crossbow goblins plus a siege with 20 goblins of mixed weaponry.  Suffice to say... they tore my military to shreds then proceeded to beat my battle cattle, war dogs, civilians, and the traders to a bloody pulp.

I think I'm gonna search for caverns and magma from now on.  15 Z-Levels down and I hadn't encountered either.  Maybe I need a new digging strategy for discovery of these...

Edit:  I guess you could say Reveredpapers...
*puts on sunglasses*
Has folded.
YYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!
(I had to do it before someone else could)

Welp... Reveredpapers had a Hydra less then 2 months after the ambush where the 3 goblins took down almost my entire military.  The only people who decided to respond to my "OHCRAPHYDRA!" alert... were 2 recruits and a hammerdwarf plus their puppies.  The result of this 400 year old beast charging me?  A few dead puppies, a dwarf with a BRUISED ARM, and a dead hydra.  51 pages of combat text where  the Hammerdwarf was breaking every bone in the Hydra's body with his silver hammer which ended in him shattering all the skulls on the hydra one by one, one recruit was cutting off various toes with his (+copper short sword+), and the last recruit with an +iron spear+ stabbed the Hydra in the gut at the start... and spent the rest of the fight biting him in the leg like a rabid dog.

After this Hydra was slain and hauled to a butcher shop did I get a migrant wave FULL of useless dwarves cannon fodder who went straight to my military, picked up their copper armor and got to training.  It then hit Winter Time... and I got my first siege!  Yay!  15 swordGoblins in iron armor vs 20 dwarves in copper/leather... again.  The result?  I beat the siege but my 110 Dwarf fort is now down to 72. I have enough military dwarves to fill out half as squad.

Thank god for the ability to order 30 coffins made at a time plus a well dug out catacomb to dispose of the bodies...

Edit: Edit for spelling/grammar since it's 5:30 AM and it made no sense when I read it...

I just got sent home about 3 hours early from work due to snow.  If I was salary I wouldn't really care but sadly I'm hourly paid.  It's snow, people!  Not that difficult to drive in!  There's no ice, yet, and it's only a few inches.  I went to school/work in worse up north!  Frickin' southerners...

MythagoWoods likes Amethyst, granite, limonite, silver, tanks for their sheer awesomeness, firearms, and giant cave spiders for their mystery.
He absolutely detests smokers, crowds, and violence.
When possible he prefers to consume Wurst, spaetzel, and coffee as black as his soul.
He is smart, physically fit, slow to anger, and easily to get along with but he's clumsy, slow to heal, wounds easily, and has horrible social abilities. He needs coffee to get through the day, his work is beginning to show due to its scarcity.

That I can recall... I'm on Reveredpapers and it's up to year 5... dunno how much longer it'll last without magma and iron with the forces that have been attacking and how easily my dwarves seem to be dieing and how mentally ill my doctors are.  If my doctors would STOP drinking and actually work on my injured dwarves I'd be doing a LITTLE better at least. :\

Dear Urist McMilitary,

You took down a freakin' 600 year old ETTIN who had been terrorizing the country side with a ragtag group with copper armor and weapons and suffered NO casualties.  How in the name of Armok did all 30 of you get wasted by 3 leather clad, silver axe wielding goblins?  Dwarven Warriors... I am disappoint.

Sincerely,
your disappointed Overseer

I dunno how my fort is gonna handle this...

Reveredpapers was doing quite well despite being 10 Z levels down now, in year 4, and still have yet to encounter magma, caverns, or anything to make anything beyond COPPER with... and I got attacked by an Ettin. "OH SHIT!" I though, an Ettin and all my military is in a mix-match of copper and leather armor with copper/steel weapons I traded for.  Much like my last fort when I got attacked by a semibeast, a Minotaur, I thought I was completely boned.  The Ettin charged down the mountain, decided to play with me by destroying my fisheries and gave me enough time to call in my 30 Military dwarves to action as they rushed to the only entrance to my fort to face the Ettin.  By the time the Ettin has killed my 5th Fishery he then decided to stop pussy footing around and charged at my wall of military!  Judging from the 60 pages of combat text that followed he grabbed my Militia commander by her arm... then proceeded to get pummeled, pricked, bonked, and smacked with feathery pillows as he proceeded to slowly go from all white to all red with blood covering the ENTIRE entrance to my fort.  Turns out the only REAL damaging blow that happened at the start was his legs getting crushed by my Hammerdwarf and his (bang bang Maxwell) Silver Hammer so he couldn't escape as everyone slowly poked him to death.

End result?  One militia commander with a bruised arm.

Not long after this I called off the alarm, rebuilt my fisheries, put my commander in my hospital, and went about my business when suddenly... "An ambush! Curse them!" *Oh crap!* I thought and raised the alarm again and once more 29 military dwarves RUSH... to meet 3 swordgoblins, clad in all cloth and LEATHER with SILVER swords head-on.  Unlike the Ettin they didn't putz about and rushed right at my wall of dwarves. What happened next... confused and infuriates me.  In the blink of an eye my 29 military dwarves... turn to 5 and their 3 Swordgoblins went from 3... to 1. Now this single goblin proceeded to single handed rape my 110 Fort down to 75.  I was actually grabbing random dwarves off my military screen to fling at him and FINALLY I managed to get that goblin killed.

I have no doubts that, since my hospital is filled to the brim AND my doctors are retarded, I have a tantrum spiral incoming... and I was liking Reveredpapers so much too.

I put coffins in the gems/ore that I mine out so they aren't TO far out of the way but when I hit a good vein it still has plenty of room for them.  If it's a dwarf I actually CARE about then I find a nice, secluded area where I can dig a grand tomb for them and decorate it with their favorite items,

Fort Reveredpapers is now up to 80 dwarves and has officially become a town with a mayor!  Unfortunately they elected my Militia Commander, who for all intents and purposes IS a BA for killing quite a few thieves and kobolds with his bare hands, which ticked off the Liason we had since my commander would rather train then talk to the putz.  Oh well.

As soon as I learned he was my mayor I dug out a 5x5 room for his use/office, smoothed and engraved it with my master engraver and almost EVERY single engraving is a masterwork engraving... of a useless glassmaker starving himself to death because he couldn't get... something.  Nothing makes a house like a home like engravings of dwarves KILLING THEMSELVES.
