DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Goblinite Flood - How do i deal with it?

Well im my newest fort im doing pretty well, im a good bit into a project and military is holding its own against the goblin horde with few casualties.
My biggest problem is not that the goblins are doing any real damage but they're flooding my god damn map with so much goblinite i cant collect it all before the next siege comes. the sieges are usually 50~ goblins strong and a squad of 10 or so trolls and come once maybe twice a year.

I'm atom smashing it fast as i can get it dumped while melting the useful metal items but cant seem to even make a dent.

I was thinking a magma pit or something over the entrance? But since it wouldnt get rid of the magma safe Iron.

I found during the last siege I kill a lot less gobbos if i go on the defensive and put all archer squads into "The Shooting Range" but it still gives too much crap.

Could really use some advice before everything grinds to a halt. (Disabling sieges is a last resort)

DF Modding / Modding Bolts. Which Values are important?

Hi, I'm trying to mod lead bolts to be more effective. I'd read the only the weight makes a difference in the combat effectiveness but it takes a lot of bolts to kill even an unarmored goblin. Which values should be increased in leads raw file to increase their effectiveness?

Simple question i guess, ive heard of people having friendly batmen live in their fortress and I'd like to do the same, currently a single tribe of 8 batmen has killed 4 forgotten beasts in the caverns meaning 4 of them are friendly, and id like to give these guys a place in my fortress.

So, i think caging them is out of question since they are friendly? Any Ideas? (aside from magma)

The queen just arrived to my current fortress and its going all well and good, except while checking out some health logs i noticed she had vision impaired. Fearing it was an fb syndrome or something i checked her wounds and saw this

Every single part of her body excluding her cheeks and throat which are brown, are yellow, what the hell did she get up to before she arrived here?

Anybody else had this happen that could explain?

Ok, so as the title says, what are the best names your dwarves have been given after they slaughter in the name of armok?

These two are my favourite since they kind of fit the type of soldier I wanted them to be.

DF Gameplay Questions / Do falling objects cause harm?

Quick question, i know that dropping obsidian formed blocks on someone will most likely injure them but say if i dropped a war elephant on them from 100 z levels up or a pile of junk crafts, would that have any effect?

I'm just asking as i see that my dwarves will always have tags like "Had a fine drink lately/Had a truly decadent drink lately/Had a wonderful drink". However booze does not have any quality modifiers that are visible? or are these thoughts generated by the value of the drink?

In my current fortress I havent had any real attacks that have caused damage so it has resulted in a much higher population than im used to.

Anywhoo in the last half an hour of play there have been twelve new babies born. It's getting kind of ridiculous. I have 50 children in my fortress of 150 and about 20 babies. Has anyone else had this problem and if so how do i solve it other than opening up a new daycare in the magma pits

So in my early stages of trapdom i seem to have developed a unicorn bait maze which draws them in but refuses to let them path out. They're everywhere in my fortress and more are coming in. The ones that got in have gone down my stairs to harass my masons. My hunter recently went insane and if i draft everyone into militia to attack them theyre going to get speared by magical horns :|. Arg!

Maybe this design could be used to capture other herds ....

DF Modding / Taking the best from 31.18 to .19?

Is it possible to take the metal abundance, lack of grazing from 31.18 into 31.19 while still maintaining bees and nest boxes?. I know that the grazing would be just removing the tags from the raws but im not sure about the metal abundance cure.

Ok so this embark i found was nigh perfect until i figured out that i only have about 10 z levels below ground to build on. So time to build up the ways instead. My question is that if i have 5 z levels above ground will building up to that height allow me to build further or no?

If i add [APPOINTED_BY:EXPEDITION_LEADER] tags to dungeon master will i be able to appoint him myself? Same with other nobles.
      [APPOINTED_BY:MAYOR]

Also, adjusting banditry, will changing elven banditry to 50 make them always hostile like goblins and changing banditry to 10 make goblins friendly?

If I add [MERCHANT BODYGUARDS] and [DIPLOMAT BODYGUARDS] will i have to specify the guards?

This isnt the first time i've gotten a quest into the mountains i usually just ignore them. I really want to find out how im supposed to find the guy in the mountain. I've searched all of the nine squares and followed the path finder to the central square but it just shows 3 stars when i get in a certain area. How do i find where the enemy is?
