Can you imagine the amount of jewelry shes wearing?

I use serrated discs when I'm puttin the trap in an area I really need defended. If I'm using them in a maze though I usually use goblinite weapons or cheap weapons I buy from traders. Might consider using crossbows now since 34.xx seems to have gotten a major projectile lethality boost

In my newest fortress I just experienced my first zombie siege,

A bountiful human caravan had arrived, 3 wagons and several pack animals with a handful of guards and no sooner had i raised the drawbridge to the trading area behind him did a goblin siege arrive. 20 or so mounted goblins, with a squad of trolls, not really a big siege but formidable enough for a fortress with no military to speak of. I'd dispatched most of the goblins and there was about 7 or 8 still left in my entryway when i released the caravan and it made a dash for the edge of the map. As soon as the last guard past the map edge a zombie siege arrived. "Yay!" I thought, "these zombies will kill the goblins and theres no necromancer to re raise them".

Oh how wrong I was, the horde of zombies ~50 slowly creeped in from the map edge over my entry way tearing the goblins to shreds. It was only now i saw the group of 5 necromancers following from behind. Corpses of yaks started animating along with those of the invaders, shambling towards my already battered defenses. Needless to say it was a quick and painful death for every member of the fortress....

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Are fortifications just terrible?
« on: March 08, 2012, 04:55:00 pm »
I find that fortifications work very well if you use them inversely to the direction of enemy travel. Usually I use :
z=0

D#####        <=====
X#####        <=====
D#####        <=====

z=1
........FAX
........FAX
........FAX

X=Wall
F=Fortification
A=Archer
D=Door
#=Floor
.=Open space

The archers shoot down onto the gobbos who are more concerned about walking to the door than anything else. Element of surpise I suppose, has worked pretty well for me.

My only problem with the military going for better equipment is that two or more dwarves sometimes go for the same weapon and causing a general pain in the ass. Then again I tend to make more weapons than i need and melt the lower quality ones so it doesnt make much of a difference.

OT though I havent noticed too many bugs in the newest version. Then again ive been playing mostly AM, though like the rest of you im still pissed that after all these months dwarves still refuse to wear clothes which seems the most simple of things. Its easily fixed by assigning them all to military though even if it takes a while and this way you can give them all armor as well

The key to beating the necro tower is kiting and pebbles

Just realised that raising an undead army makes all friendly fortresses pissy at me so have had to give up the one advantage I had as a necromancer to do quests. Starting to consider slaughtering everyone in the world and going off to live in a cave with my severed arm collection

The way I did it was to draw them out, make sure youve got a crap tonne of small rocks and draw them away from the tower. When youve killed at the bodies, assuming theres no necromancer pick them up and dump them a bit away. If there are necromancers just keep circle around throw stones at them and zombies that get too close. I find doing it solo is better than with companions as they just add to the bodycount. When you get to the staircase run up to it and double back. If nothing follows you do the same with the next level. This should stop you getting ambushed by the ones on the top floor.

Also be aware only the slab gives you powers. The rest of the books in the towers are pretty useless from what ive seen

Surely a drowning trap could be combined with vampires. Using the vampires to kill anything that can swim? Toad mounts etc

I have but one question. If you kill a ghost, and you do not bury them, do they spawn a ghost of a ghost?
