Finally figured out how to add custom clothing to a civilization and get it to work. I may have gotten a bit carried away.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

They may be hiding underground from a flock of giant peach-faced lovebird corpses, but they're doing it looking fabulous.

They'll show up in the forge if they have it in the entity,
This is not in fact the case. I added them to the entity file, genned a world, checked that the entries in the entity file existed in the world's save folder, embarked, built a forge, and they're not there.
That's... Very unusual. They may have needed the COMMON, UNCOMMON, FORCED, etc. I never claimed to be an expert, but all the times I've added weapons they worked fine.
OK, nuked my entire install, tried again from scratch, and this time it worked. I must have done something wrong. Thanks!

I've always thought it was rather odd that dwarves, the masters of metal, should be unable to create whatever weapons and armor they wanted. Given that, if one were theoretically to add foreign weapons to the dwarven entry in the entity file, would one also have to create an entirely new workshop in order to be able to make them? Because adding them to the entity theoretically doesn't make them appear as options at the forge.

An entire fortress of werebeasts.
The only problem is that the next full moon will cause a total collapse of the fort, no saving possible. You need to keep one dwarf unchanged and hidden from all the others.
In other words, a vampire.

i think I've got a big problem: Those wells seem to be pegasus killers. For some reason there now where two pegasus foals in the cistern, months after there has been any access to it. I guess they're entering through the wells - especially because after I opened the exit one flew out through a well. I foresee this ending in tragedy.
Probably the flier pathing bug, which always hits the pegasi hard. Make sure than anywhere you can stand has a path to it, such as stairs or ramps, or fliers will fly there and then be unable to find a way to get out.

Three tries to get everyone out of that reservoir...
You should've just settled with drowning the dog. Nothing a few statues can't fix.

Not a good idea. Reservoir dogs never end well for anybody.

Why would the birds go through the door if there is no accessible tile beyond it? And why would the door close once water is flowing?
1) Overcrowding pressure, displacement, and peck-dodging?

2) Doors destroy liquid when they close; I've never heard of this being a problem. There could be a second pressure plate inside the closet, though, so the pump isn't always on.

This defies my understanding of how egglayers work. I thought egglayers would not multiply as long as dwarves are able to collect their eggs. Thus, egglayer breeding requires either active management or a scheme like mine; simply configuring the autobutcher plugin will not work. Am I mistaken?
Well, you can go into the z > (k)itchen menu and turn off cooking the eggs, and also forbid them from your food stockpiles.

Ok, thinking out loud here. Chickens can go through unlocked doors, right? Unlocked doors can hold back water. Water can trigger pressure plates. What about this?

# = grate
^ = pressure plate
D = door
%% = pump

Code: [Select]
=====
#^D≈=
===%=
   %

Set the pressure plate to trigger at 3 or so. If a chicken tries to go through the door, they'll get pushed back by the water being pumped in, and the water will trigger the plate and drain through the grate.

If you want not to run out of leather, talk to your Outpost Liaison. One notch of demand guarantees that the next caravan will bring one bin of that type of leather. Request them all and they'll bring several hundred pieces. I'm not sure how much they'll end up bringing if you bump the demand over one--I've never had to try.

That said, your bird dispenser is aweome. Only problem I see with it is that it's theoretically possible, though unlikely, for males to eventually crowd out the females, which would bring the whole production to a grinding halt.

Macros will save the day.

I start with my standard equipment, and record a macro of me doing it. Then whenever I make a new squad I hit Ctrl-P to assign them my standard armor kit, then pick a weapon for the squad and they're done. No fuss.
I use macros all the time. And I assign uniforms all the time. Why in the hell have I never thought of this?!

By the way, what's the record for fastest finding of cotton candy (and surviving)?
Heh.
