She's also wearing two cloaks.   :P

It's because light horseshoes and normal horseshoes are different layers, I believe - horseshoes are ARMOR, light horseshoes are OVER, so it's like a dwarf wearing high boots over his socks or shoes - she came wearing the steel light horseshoes, and put the bronze ones over them when I told her to wear metal armor.
So "light horseshoes" are what Applejack and Rainbow Dash throw, and "horseshoes" are what Celestia and Luna wear? It almost seems backwards.

I need to dive into this when I get home from work, if I can remember how to properly disable a texture pack.

I came here and started reading this just after watching this video. So while I started out in quite a good mood, the sad-guitar version of the Moonlight Sonata was still playing in my head through the whole thing. Wow, depressing. I'm gonna go watch the video again.

Blue peahens produce the same amount of meat as both the average goose and turkey and have a constistently higher egg yield.
This is not true. Peafowl lay 6-8 eggs, while turkeys lay 10-14. They do grow up in 1 year instead of 2, though.

One drawback to both is that they are not, in fact, pigs.

Humans brought a ☼donkey leather headscarf☼ on their caravan. The description said it was made by "an unknown artisan."

I've never seen a masterwork anything that I didn't make before.

mod the [pet] tag onto the female caste of goblins.. on any save even one that's going.. then pit one male and female gobbo together

What in the actual fuck, mermaid farming sure... But goblin baby farming??

Goblin Babies, we make our dreams come true
Goblin Babies, we're gonna ambush you

When your fort is out of beer and you're 'bout to go insane
Just close your eyes and make believe and we'll punch you in the brain...

Nope. I don't even have a masonry workshop. These are all coming from what I've nicknamed The Craftdwarf Workshop of Death. And I've got lots of clay around, so no, when they want stone, they want stone.

427
A...pick?  Wait, does that mean the humans might have stone and ore-based metals for sale?  Like Iron and Flux stones?

Well, it was a copper pick. And kobolds have had iron knives, so there's iron around. Haven't seen any stone, though, except in blocks, which I expect they sell just to make fun of me.

After much soul-searching, I took Mr. Willsauce's advice, slaughtered the humans and threw their filthy dirt-scratchers into the volcano.

428
So hey, Hunger, I think the humans are more clever than you gave them credit for.

Naturally, I'm shocked and appalled at this sacrilege, and will be booting them out of my fortress immediately. I'd just kill them, but then I'd be stuck with that...monstrosity. Imagine, scarring the very flesh and bone of Armok!

I'm in my second year, I have the beginnings of a glass and clay industry and my first axe lord. Yet, I'm giving up. The 'cancel construction due to creature occupying site' bug is too much for me. Particularly considering everything needs to be built. I'll revisit the challenge down the road in the next release.
Argh, I'm getting close to ragequitting for this very reason. On the fifth try to build a very necessary wall to keep goblins from standing on the rim of the volcano and having a straight shot down into the compound, canceling the build order caused the log to fall off the cliff and break my glassmaker's arm. This is insane.

430
I forgot how stupid dwarves are about building next to bridges.

Over a volcano.

Which led me to realize what a major fortress-killer of this challenge will be: no slabs.

431
Gaah, I'm starting to get really tired of moody dwarves demanding stone. This one has way too many friends, and my fortress is really short on happiness inducers. This is gonna be fun.

432
So, wait, is the only rule "No mining"?

Any restriction on biomes or trading or anything like that?  Is there any reason NOT to embark on a sandy volcano for infinite glass, 'cause that seems pretty close to a winning strategy here.

Buying ores, stones, blocks, bars and merchants will eventually get you everything you could have gotten from mining, so is the challenge just the fact that it will take longer to create an proper fortress?

There's no stone at all.

It's the only water I have, rain happens, and how much will dwarves need water, anyways?
And, again, what other options do I have? Magma wells?

Seeing how you will either have to make booze from surface plants which take a long time to get a farm working, or drink water.... You will need water, otherwise you will have no food reserves.
I'm in the autumn of year 2 and I have 10 muck roots, 55 bloated tubers, 106 prickle berries, 110 wild strawberries, 110 longland grass, 10 valley herbs, 18 rat weed, 20 fisher berries, 18 rope reeds, 8 blade weeds, 21 hide roots, and 153 whip vines. I'd have sun berries but my stupid cook cooked them before I had a chance to ban them, so now I've denuded great swaths of the outdoors looking for another one.

Outdoor farming is no harder than indoor farming. It's quite broken. My dwarves have never touched a murky pool, and I have no other water.

Slate had just started and the wooden platform over lava around half-complete, when I realized I had no magma-safe stuff! Oops. Anyways, my militia commander is going to make charcoal, and then I'll fuel-glass some blocks.
I did one worse than that--with no stone and metal so expensive (and no iron, only steel anvils), I ended up not bringing anything fire-safe. I totally forgot that I couldn't gather clay without building a kiln first, which seems silly. Still, it's not like I usually get my fire-based industries up before the first caravan anyway.

Minedclosed has both clay and sand, and I'm still debating whether it's worth making bricks as well as glass blocks. I could just leave them gathering clay forever and use it raw, but this challenge is making me prideful. I've also got sun berries, which is nice, but I don't seem to have any elves, so I'm going to be strapped for cloth if I don't find rope reed somewhere.

Aside from the ultimate 10-year goal, my personal objective is to develop cave adaptation. Drat, blocking out the sun doesn't cause darkness.

Is everyone that's using seeds dumping them manually? It so happens that in my current (ULTIMATE CHALLENGE) fort, I put together a minecart quantum stockpile before I had a single bag, and in the food stockpile it turns out that dwarves absolutely refuse to put individual seeds into minecarts. It clogged up the QS badly. You can see it here, second stop from the right:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Both stockpiles and the track stop were set to accept all types of food. I can't find any reason for it except that dwarves only want to put seeds in bags.

Toady needs to implement hoppers.
