DF Suggestions / Re: Sieges / Goblins mechanics in 0.40.xx onward
« on: January 17, 2015, 08:56:16 am »
Yeah, I got no sieges for years then the gobbos knocked over a couple of other settlements and now I'm drowning in them. Literally, I can't haul corpses to the lava sea quickly enough. I imagine starting scenarios will have you covered if you want more action from the start, like legit frontline dwarf fortresses and such.

DF Suggestions / Webbers be like totally OP and stuff

True story.

Nerfing their refire rate and allowing their victims a (strength?) roll to free (at least part of) themselves would go a long way. Right now I appreciate the much needed challenge they bring, but being able to perma-stunlock fucking everything (at the same time, no less) is a bit much.

Incidentally firebreath is massively underpowered, but that should sort itself out once heat properly transfers to and from shields.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

That's all kinds of awesome. I'll probably stick to my all limbs attached rule for recruitment purposes, but it's good to know there's a military future for (some) crippled veterans.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Horrified seeing a goblin die
« on: January 08, 2015, 03:21:35 pm »
To be fair its likely most people that say that they shouldnt care about goblin deaths have no idea what its like to see a person die (in combat) or havent seen a rotten corpse either. Both can be pretty damn scary when you actually see them for the first time irl regardless if its a hostile or not. I think its perfectly reasonable as well that dwarves sometimes care and sometimes not as well because thats just how it is irl as well.

This.

The modding forum can probably help you better. The commented Dwarf raws also do an excellent job of explaining what the various tags do.

Unless I'm desperate I only draft dwarves who dream of mastering a skill. Opportunities in the army and all that. That's really my only requirement. Well, that and four working limbs.

DF General Discussion / Re: A simple question: why Urist "Mc"?
« on: January 06, 2015, 06:47:35 pm »
What was the learning curve thread? I presume it was some kind of old joke about DF having a steep learning curve, or something similar.

GavJ started a thread about how DF actually has a shallow learning curve because science, then a bunch of people went well yeah, but we don't actually say that because language, then it kind of just got stuck in an infinite loop until Toady pulled the plug 50 pages later or so. It was beautiful and amazing and quite silly.

So... this is the new learning curve thread?

I have also observed that tame large predators are weak.
That's really crappy... I wonder what the explanation is for that.

Probably something to do with skills and attributes.

Enemy strength is quite reasonable... training needs to be dialed back a few notches.

DF Suggestions / Re: Visible Sexualities

You wouldn't really be able to do it with dwarves' external appearance without it being offensive. And I've met some gay people who don't look it at all, boys and girls. A message about the preferences would do.

His nose is upturned, his close-set eyes are somewhat round, his double-braided beard is extremely gay.

I think terrifying is a savage haunted biome, so probably.

Some kind of multi-headed humanoid. You can never have too many heads in DF.

You can train him to be a legendary striker, maybe he will punch their brains out.

He will. Consistently.
