I imagine all my dwarves doing this whenever they beat back a siege and yelling drunken jibberish.

Also any attacks are filmed in my head with Lord of the Rings cinematography. It's pretty great, what with the lava and the arrows and the axes and goblins and such. Favorite ones include a single goblin rushing a single axelord, the axelord shield bashing the goblin back then in one fluid spinny thing, hacking off its foot, arms, and head. Another really good one is a squad of axelords rushing several squads of goblins, zooming out the mental camera, and watching several goblin parts flying over the crowd.

Why not use a drawbridge to catapult the goblins up 30z levels to your military?

The doctors are definitely using their sense of smell and taste to fix up patients.

Since there are so many moments of evisceration, let's add one more moment of heartwarming.

Eshtan Tosidalzat starts tantrumming due to her mother and father and baby brother and several friends dying to a forgotten beast. She tantrums less and less, and when I look at why, it seems that her younger sister has been talking to her in between the destruction.

She then gets put in jail when a semblance of order is restored, but a day before being let out, she gets elected as mayor.

The stories this game can tell are ridiculous.

I've made it a habit to build cage traps at the one entrance to my animal stockpile, and when actually moving gobbos, to station a squad of archers to shoot out escaping prisoners' kneecaps before they get re-caged.

Especially if your sheriff is a human tree hybrid with some serious issues.  :)

Screw pitting or training or arenas. Do !!science!! on them.

I can confirm that unlinked upright spear stab falling dudes. You might just need a higher pit.

Also, bonus points for the dodging traps if you use silver hammers and make the enemy fly off rather than dodge off.

Usually a pitted gobbo is too busy trying to escape than to fight back, though they'll throw the occasional attack out once in a while.

It's pretty great for rounding up all the siegers to burn/hack them in one place that's easy to clean. It's also a great way to throw all the useless copper and silver weaponry that goblins drop and that your dwarves can't use.

I had three no-pet-pass doors to my danger room. I took out one because the same amount of pets still got in regardless.

There's something really satisfying about knowing that your useless arts and crafts industry is chugging along merrily despite the presence of a billion goblins outside.

My entire fortress only has one land based entrance topside, so the entire thing is basically a panic room once the drawbridge is sealed. The control room for my levers is a statue garden/zoo next to the legendary dining room and noble throne room. Another drawbridge seals up the caverns, too.

Of course, flying building destroyers can fly in through the bridge I built over my volcano and knock down the roof access doors, or they can knock down the sealed bottomside drawbridge, but we're going to hope that it never comes to that. If it does, there are bigger things to worry about than surviving. (like completing project Fuck the Fortress which may or may not involve pressurized magma)

A dragon breathed fire on one of my war bears and his gem studded electrum chain (my current fortress is ballin out) and it didn't melt, nor did the bear get burned. What a terrible dragon. (then it got caught in a cage)

This topic needs to freeze in its tracks.

ps. I like seasonal climates because they refill murky pools when freezing the half drained water.
