I tried making a tower in a wintery place with a Tavern-esq thing for an entrance, and some bedding upstairs.
Even had a downstairs area for food/drink and a brewery, alas, it was just a glorified Dining hall.
I really like this idea though, it'd fit well with the caravan or army arc.

I'm not sure why.
Try spawning a few of the same troll-types and check their descs.

Also, I am pretty sure you are able to set how likely you are to get a certain caste spawned in-game, set the rates for the candy blood really low, and everything else high?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Tower of inprobable occurences !!

Hey there Bay12,
I've got something to share, today I was starting a new fort in Genesis mod, hoping to raise a mighty tower of stone,
I made all except two of my dwarfs stoneworkers, the other miners.
But as I embarked, I notice an odd square of ground jutting to the right, I investigated and..
At the top is a cave, with what appears to be a small family of night creatures, right outside a dead Orc.
On top of this cave, another orc resides, not really doing anything, and his right testicle is gone
Now, I'm assuming they got up there from beyond the map border, as I saw no way to ascend to the peak of this earthen tower.
And to top it off.
The tower seems to be partially made of Aquifer, leaking water across the map.
Want to try and wall off the incoming water before it reaches your dwarfs? with only stone?!(I forgot you need wood for beds.) Here is the save!

I'm pretty sure flying creatures in fortress mode is kind of buggy at the moment.

« on: January 28, 2011, 06:24:35 pm »I realize that this is very much a Work-in-Progress. However, do all the modified files require 6.2 Megabytes?
I'd consider trying this, but I much prefer compact mods that only include the modified files - to be combined manually with vanilla DF. That way I can examine what the mod adds and more easily combine it with other mods. (Unless it is a major mod or a full conversion, of course.)
Well, I suppose it could work with some mods, so long as it doesn't modify the dwarfs a whole lot, like body structure, castes and such.
You could probably overwrite whatever mod you want to merge it with with this mod's files in the appropriate places, maybe.

Perhaps we could make a new language.txt for troll language, I don't think there's a way of changing it for different trolls though, except with castes maybe.
Dersites and Prospitians could probably be reskinned goblins, elfs or kobolds for the sake of them showing up in Fortress Mode.
I'm pretty sure WAYWARD VAGABOND ate a pumpkin, and some other things, I haven't read that far back in a while though.
Also, I've run into a problem..
That is stopping the troll civ from being placed during worldgen, making it unplayable.
I've looked through this with wordfinding and everything looks to be fine, if anyone knows what's up that'd be great.

« on: January 28, 2011, 09:49:29 am »you might want to add a description for different horns, and different types of blood as means of different caste.Yeah, I'm looking into how to change blood color, and get randomized blood color within a certain hemospectrum, IE peasant-ish trolls have the darker colors while the highbloods(nobles) have the more bright and shiny ones.
I'd love to give them all randomly chosen speech quarks like you mentioned too, but I haven't a clue how to do that.

Hi, I decided to start on my first modding project today by changing mydwarfs into candycorn-horned-trolls, and I thought'd I'd share it with the forums and see if anybody liked it so far. http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=3737

Two castes, Aquatics and Psychics
Psychics, they can fly, which isn't very useful in fortress mode, but can be a lot of fun in adventure mode!
Aquatics can breath in water and land, again, not very useful in fortress mode, but good for adventurers.
Reskinned Dwarfs, Different descs for each caste, and scales for the Aquatics.
Two horns on each troll, attacks pass right through them, oddly enough.
That's really all that's in at the moment, I only started on this about an hour or so ago so it's a very rough project.
Any suggestions/comments?
