DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Time for an upgrade?
« on: November 05, 2012, 01:25:29 pm »
I was very disappointed with the path Notch has chosen for Minecraft. I don't want the same thing to happen with DF. So, no.

Selling a million copies isn't really a bad thing though.
Except for playing multiplayer mods aren't possible in anytime soon, Minecraft seems to be on a good track.
Not really. Development seems to be retardedly slow (yay redundancy) and in general, even the creator admits that the code is horrible. Almost all fun comes in the form of mods. Client mods aren't officially supported, and then the fact that variable names will change every update isn't helping the modders either.

Some people don't seem to understand that getting a big publisher or being famous (even to people who don't really play videogames)  isn't the goal of every game developer.

Those rabbit things. I might've spelled it wrong :P

EDIT:

What exactly does alchemical remedy do? And that special cheese? If I'm reading this right,
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Is that right? If so, it's just a silly joke thing, right?

The blessed warrior's descriptions seems a little misleading since none of them actually have stat modifiers/increased learning rates (and the natural skills only apply to newborn children).

You need to make a shield. Try and get some extra leather for one?

Sadly, I don't think masks can actually be worn (by dwarves).

Yeah, blows to the mouth/teeth send loads of teeth flying everywhere.

The hammer is a metaphor of himself. Though he is brethren with excellent killers he lacks the same lethality. Dwarves are deep.
Or, he intends to use this to drag out any fights he has and torture the enemies, slowly smashing their extremities off until they bleed out.

Marksdwarf killed a cavedragon with wood bolts. One shotted the wing and it passed out. Bolts are overpowered.

Anyone else seen a crystal dragon, yet? Or a cannon beetle? Interesting creatures I have never seen before :(
No, but I can tell you that the war carbuncles are freakin' dangerous.

Why name them? They aren't artifacts, and nothing has been killed with them so far. Except for the pick, which was used to slay a single pet...
It's a home rule.
You need to name your now magical item. All magical items crafted will need special names.

The guy should get a rune tattoo. That way he could no longer delay getting a name  :P
Perhaps a nice anti-strenghtening rune. Judging from how it affected the statues, everything the peasant touches would wither and crumble. Great for punching giant rats! (as long as he doesnt touch his beard or "interact" with the beautiful queen)
Or, you know, ever rub his eyes, scratch himself or clap. Maybe if his tongue touches his teeth something will go wrong too.
But imagine all the fun we could have by punching kobolds and kicking kittens
We could get the same effect by strengthening ourself, that effect doesn't seem to transfer to everything it touches. Plus the crunch of skulls will be much more satisfying if you got stronger instead of the skull getting weaker.

Now we know why your other forum kicked you out.

DF Suggestions / Re: Automated-gatling-siege-engine-and-other-improvements.

What if we met midway and made ballistae and catapults automatically fire any objects that's dropped onto their center tile if provided power?
You get a much less accurate siege engine (no operator means no legendary skill bonus) that can fire at a rate based on how much power is being linked to it, and all you need to do is keep dumping stuff from above.

Now take that dwarf in full adamantine armor and put him against a single dwarf with a crossbow and wooden bolts. Notice how it doesn't block anything. At all.

Do you even know how the armor system works in dwarf fortress?

I know I've sworn to ignore you, but seriously. Crossbow research thread.

DF General Discussion / Re: Do the Gods Exist Or Are They an In-game Lie?
« on: November 04, 2012, 04:20:34 pm »
Well, with vampire and wereism being entirely ( Or nearly so, I've not seen any transmission of either in Legends mode ) caused by deities, I'd have to say they exists, within the game :D

Then there're pretenders which's pretty much megabeast, titans ro escaped underworld creatures

Megabeast arn't "Fake gods" they are more akin to Incarnate gods... especially the Titan.

Considering how easy most of them are to kill, I'd say not! I will note that escaped HFS critters did used to have note about tricking people into believing it's one, and that most megabeasts/titans are just that strong against normal stuff in worldgen combat to terrorize people into worshipping it.

A bit nitpicky maybe, but when an accident in my fortress can off them when worldgen combat couldn't, I dunno :D

Worldgen combat fights one at a time. You'd need to break the accident into a bunch of smaller accidents and pit each accident against your false god one at a time, to be fair.
