DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Gems During Strange Mood
« on: July 02, 2011, 07:00:23 pm »
One of my dorfs is possessed and demands rough gems. I have plenty, but he doesn't seem to want them. Is it possible that he'll only take the type he has a preference for?
In this case, those would be pipe opals, and I can't find them anywhere on my map. :<

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / In the Absence of a Dungeon Master...
« on: June 30, 2011, 07:26:52 pm »
...please pull lever to clear animal traps of exotic vermin.
Can somebody explain where that lever is? :-\

Considering how nobles are currently in a state of purgatory and I can't get a dungeon master, there's no way for me to clear my animal traps when the trapper decides to get a lizard or toad, and I'm wasting wood making new ones.
An even better solution would be to have the presence of a dungeon master emulated without needing one to immigrate, because I'd also like to train these rhinoceroses I've caught. ;D

DF Gameplay Questions / Food Barrel Crisis
« on: March 28, 2011, 03:46:50 pm »
I'll put this as succinctly as possible:

Booming farming industry.
Desert fort (very few trees).
Overload of plants and seeds, and as such, barrels needed to store them.
No more drinks.
No more empty barrels.

What do I do? What's the most convenient solution?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Profuse Bleeding
« on: March 10, 2011, 03:34:40 pm »
My good Fish Dissector, Reg Oilgates, seems to be bleeding all over the place spontaneously.
He's bled by the wagon, in the barracks, everywhere inside the fortress, and in my mayor's chambers.

He has no wounds (on both the V screen and the Z-health screen) and hasn't requested a diagnosis.

I don't know whether to figure out a way to get him diagnosed in case there's a wound I'm not seeing, or just to mark it off as him sweating blood.

DF Gameplay Questions / Marksdwarves and Training with Arrows
« on: March 08, 2011, 01:58:58 am »
When I designate an Archery Range and set my marksdwarves to train in it, they'll ignore it entirely and won't even enter it.
Just to be sure:
  • they're equipped with bows
  • they have arrows designated for training (which are stored in a custom stockpile for bows and ammunition inside the range)
  • the archery range is marked as a training zone for their squad
  • the squad is set to train
They're set to train with a minimum 2 soldiers each month with the 1st and 7th months of the year off, and I'm positive that they're set to train this month because they all dropped civ status and went to soldier status.

I made a barracks out of the same room with a weapon rack and they all proceeded to train in it using the crossbow-as-hammer technique.

What am I doing wrong? :(

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Old Man Ambush
« on: January 14, 2011, 11:15:07 pm »
I would have never seen it coming.
It was my adventurer's first quest. The camp was a little ways away from the closest town I could find, so I got up at dawn and started heading there as soon as I could.

I was pretty sure that I wouldn't make time before night fall and get attacked by bogeymen on my way back. Instead, they ambushed me a good number of map tiles away from the actual camp.

Within the first turn, their human swordsman leader (the one I was tasked with killing) up and dies of old age.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
BTW, his last name translates to "Honestquests."

EDIT: The following turn, one of their axemen engages a groundhog by picking it up and shaking it around by the tail until the tail rips off.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Question on Ranged Party Members
« on: January 08, 2011, 09:16:50 pm »
First post on DF forums! :D

As far as having a Bowman or Crossbowman in your party is concerned, will they eventually run out of arrows/bolts? I've brought mine into quite a few battles and they haven't stopped firing yet. Do they collect arrows and bolts after battles, restock them on their own when they get to town, have an unlimited number, or just eventually stop firing?
