Also, as far as FBs are concerned, I hadn't encountered any. Or megabeasts, for that matter. It's early in the fort.

Come to mention in, Reg is a woman...

Oh, God. What have you done.

Reg didn't come with me on Embark. o_O
He, as well as all the other dwarves, don't seem to mind that he's a genuine blood fountain, so I guess the most I can do is laugh. :P

My good Fish Dissector, Reg Oilgates, seems to be bleeding all over the place spontaneously.
He's bled by the wagon, in the barracks, everywhere inside the fortress, and in my mayor's chambers.

He has no wounds (on both the V screen and the Z-health screen) and hasn't requested a diagnosis.

I don't know whether to figure out a way to get him diagnosed in case there's a wound I'm not seeing, or just to mark it off as him sweating blood.

One of my worst was definitely realizing the quick movement you could get from holding shift when moving around the map.
Boy, did that ever save time with tree designating.

Alright, cool, one's already training now. :D
Many thanks.

Does that mean that I'll have to have them set to be in uniform while inactive and restrict them from doing any other jobs?

So the general idea here is that they'll only use an archery range when they're inactive?

One of them does, and he's not training, either.
How do I assign quivers or put them in the uniform? I'm not seeing them listed anywhere on the Equip screen...

EDIT: I think I've found (part of) the problem. I only have one crossbow.
However, I have enough quivers for all three of them to use one, and only 2 need to be training.
Does this mean they won't train until I have a second bow?
The first is available for them in the stockpile at the archery range.

When I designate an Archery Range and set my marksdwarves to train in it, they'll ignore it entirely and won't even enter it.
Just to be sure:
  • they're equipped with bows
  • they have arrows designated for training (which are stored in a custom stockpile for bows and ammunition inside the range)
  • the archery range is marked as a training zone for their squad
  • the squad is set to train
They're set to train with a minimum 2 soldiers each month with the 1st and 7th months of the year off, and I'm positive that they're set to train this month because they all dropped civ status and went to soldier status.

I made a barracks out of the same room with a weapon rack and they all proceeded to train in it using the crossbow-as-hammer technique.

What am I doing wrong? :(

One of my dorfs saw fit to make the local ram his pet...
He gave it the splendid name of "Mosus."
Not spelled right, yes, but...
wat.

After having killed a multitude of beasts ranging from a cyclops to a troll to many minotaurs, I got bored and headed to the northernmost point I could reach without swimming.
On my way back, having decided to not commit suicide by drowning, my party of 8 (including me) goes to sleep and shortly thereafter gets ambushed by a local gang and all but 3 of us are dead upon waking up or killed within the first few turns by their 3 crossbowmen, one of whom being their leader.

Entered a martial trance upon waking up and took out 4 men (a wrestler, a lasher, a swordsman and a spearman) in the same general area in order to save my spearman companion from certain doom. The gang had a maceman that had engaged my surviving hammerman and had, before I was unable to reach the battle, killed him. I immediately took vengeance by severing his head in one swoop of my axe.

My spearwoman shortly thereafter got shot in the hand by a bolt, damaging her bone and making her pass out from the pain.

I ran into the center of the three crossbowmen (to my NE and SE were crossbowmen, to my SW was a tree and to the NW was the leader) and proceeded to sever more limbs and disable more of them - even killing one by striking them with the pommel of my axe and sending a rib through their heart.

***

After the carnage, I waited around for my sole surviving companion, the spearwoman, to wake up from her pain. We traveled southward to the nearest town and went into a house to sleep.

By the hand of either luck or fate, we stay in the house that I had gone to to receive my first quest. I got a nice welcome from them.

A 4 year old dwarf I found in Legends mode went toe-to-toe with a minotaur and won.
Her name?
Dolak Homehugs.

I would have never seen it coming.
It was my adventurer's first quest. The camp was a little ways away from the closest town I could find, so I got up at dawn and started heading there as soon as I could.

I was pretty sure that I wouldn't make time before night fall and get attacked by bogeymen on my way back. Instead, they ambushed me a good number of map tiles away from the actual camp.

Within the first turn, their human swordsman leader (the one I was tasked with killing) up and dies of old age.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
BTW, his last name translates to "Honestquests."

EDIT: The following turn, one of their axemen engages a groundhog by picking it up and shaking it around by the tail until the tail rips off.

So can adventurers just stack armor indefinitely? That's what it seems like so far when I raid camps.

Not indefinitely, but they can wear an insane number of clothes.  Check the wiki page for Armor and you'll see the maximum equipment loadout.

Although infinite shields is a possibility, and will give you an indefinite number of chances to block.

Actually, shield block chance only applies to one held shield. However, you gain EXP from each shield you're holding when you block an attack.
Great way to go from Dabbling to Skilled pretty quickly.
