I'm trying to re-create the world I currently have, but it doesn't seem to be working. I made it with advanced parameters and did some minor changes.

When I type the seed in it creates a flatworld without any oceans --> http://puu.sh/5ZtbA.png  instead of my original world. I don't know what's wrong, this is the first time I tried creating a world from a seed. Thanks in advance.

DF Modding / Mounted Skeletons

I'm trying to make a huge mod right now, and on the list are dinosaurs and ice age animals. So with this, I'm trying to make a new structure, a mounted skeleton, like the ones you would see in a museum.

The problem is that I have no idea how to make it. The raw files don't seem to have any furniture files.

So could anyone tell me how I would go about doing this, or if anyone has done something similar? Any help would be appreciated.

Well I don't want to add computer generated text, and I especially don't want to potentially screw up the comic by going over the words with pen. You might be able to see the text more clearly if you copy and paste it somewhere and zoom in on it. But, regardless, this is the dialouge:

I'd like to get into making web comics in my free time, and so I've made my first page. I do have the finished idea for the first comic segment, but I haven't drawn the rest of it. The text is a little too small to read anyway, so please judge it on its art. Please tell me what you think.

DF Suggestions / Universe Generator

The world generator only creates a single planet that can be edited in many ways. Making it a universe generator would add things like multiple moons and suns, constellations, and other planets solar system. I think this will be very important for things like engravings and statues, since the sun, moon, etc. had a strong influence on ancient spirituality.


A solar system would have to include at least one star and one planet.

The sun star could be a class O (extremely large, white, least likely to occur), B (very large, blue-white, very unlikely to occur), A (large, unlikely to occur, blue), F (likely to occur, yellow, average size) G, (Most likely to occur, average size, yellow), K (likely to occur, orange, smaller than average), and M (unlikely to occur, red, very small). The effects of the type of sun-star could be the temperature of the planet.

Possible moons depend on how large the home planet is, (larger world = more moons), moons would effect ocean currents of the planet, although I’m not sure how this would be incorporated into the game.

Stars would only be recognized by civilizations in the form of constellations. (ex. On the oaken chest is a masterfully crafted image of swordsmashed the constellation in cowhide leather.)

Other phenomenon like black holes and supernovas would likely be too overly complex just to destroy the entire planet.

This is all I can come up now, but I hope it will be considered to be put in the game :)

Adding neutering to the prefrences options next to butchering that will stop the animal from reproducing/giving birth. This would be useful for strategic animal husbandry, and also preventing catsplosions (or, more importantly, rabbitsplosions).

This might be difficult since breeding is still done by spores, but maybe could be used by adding two more castes to domestic animals (NEUTERED_MALE, SPAYED_FEMALE) so the give birth tokens are removed. However, for the male, to remove the reproducing token would have to get into hardcodes.

Yes, I do want peg-legs for my legless dwarves instead of them being bedridden for life. Perhaps wheelchairs could be produced at the mechanic workshops to allow even dwarves with no legs to go about their business, with the help of an idle dwarf.

As for the slavery, its been suggested many times. I'm sure it will be in the future updates.

Also, as Jeoshua just mentioned, Toady is already fine with the concept of broadening sexual orientation and doesn't seem to think that politics needs to enter into the question whatsoever. If something like this would actually cause the game's reputation to suffer, then that's hardly the game's fault anyway.

As I said, I support the idea, I just don't think it would fly. For example, if you would get to choose your adventurer's sexual orientation, a small amount people would feel it offended their priciples, but ALOT of people would simply feel uncomfortable playing the game. You're right that politics shouldn't interfere with the game, but it must in order to have an audience for DF. Otherwise, why don't we have goblins rape dwarves during their ambushes? How about you incorporate AIDS and other STD's as syndromes? Why not add pedophile dwarves while we're at it? I wouldn't mind it, and seemingly neither would most DF players. But it would decrease the number of potential future players, decrease the number of present players, and decrease the donations that support dwarf fortress.

So if DF should put homosexuality into the game, it should be very suttle while being as realistic as possible. Like not directly stating in the dwarf's info "He is gay" or "She is a lesbian" but rather seeing a male dwarf having a husband and not being able to have kids. It shouldn't be treated like such a big deal that you choose your adventurer's sexual orientation, just like you don't choose his eye color or skin color. It really dosen't matter that much.

Well, I support this suggestion because I think DF should become more and more realistic with each update, but I know that this would just never happen.

It would just make DF infamous for having gay dwarves and ruin its good reputation while labeling DF as "the game where you can have gay dwarves". I know it shouldn't be like that, but most people would be embarrased to say they play a game where they take the role of a gay elf adventurer.

Not sure if this was asked before but, is it possible for dwarves to mount animals in fortress mode? Can it be modified into the game?

I have the same problem. No sun berries or feather trees in all embark locations. Even when I modded the sunberries to appear in both dry and wet areas I had no success.
