it reminds me of the quote on wiki, saying a dwarf who loves to eat purring maggots, while absolutely detests it.

Maybe they really like the taste but hate the way they look?  I imagine them as a kind of furry shrimp, so that makes sense.

well i've been to a region in china, where processed meat of rat, or rat-like rodent was considered exquisited, and, at least generally, preserved for someone important or a guest. despite my hatred toward rat, the meat was fantastic!
so i guess you are right.

edit:not because it thawed and my dwarves drowned.
cuz when it thawed it took literally 10 minutes for my pc to process.

lucky you!

then one time i had three majors river joining together, which was totally rare.
so i embarked, right on one of them.
one was about 30 z-levels above the lowest, the other was about 10 z-levels above.
and over 60% tiles are river.
then it thawed and all my dwarves drowned.

i think i encoutered on, though not intended, mid-river waterfall, as rivers enters hill and/or woodland from mountain.
but it was merely three z-levels high.
and not sure if it is common.

so when i want a waterfall, i just go for joining rivers.

when i trained my metalsmiths, i ended up with over a dozen masterfully/exceptionally designed statues of large roach.
then i put those statues in rooms of people who detest roach.

voila! a HUGE large roach statue in your room!
oh it's even in your favourite metal?

A) piston method, basically a controlled cave-in causing liquid beneath to 'teleport' to tiles above.
B) pump stack, preferably made out of nether caps.
C) dont bring magma to the surface, bring the surface to magma!
D) embark with a volcano.

i put special food stockpile accepting only prepared meal near communal dinning hall and near noble quarters, since they have their own dinning besides their bedrooms, with no barrel.

woops, my bad. i was referring to genesis mod.
so, still, feather wood weapon, like crossbow, and somehow forbid him to use ammo, any ammo.
havent tried, so maybe another mistake i'd be making?

finding natural waterfall is easy alone, assuming you set the world gen parameters to support just enough erosion and river start points, and hill tiles. too much eronsion means a somewhat flat world, while too few hills mean no terran for waterfall to form.
then go to embark screen, change to relative elevation mod, and cycle through region tiles that contain rivers joining together. that should be easy to tell. then in relative elevation screen, should you see something like a 'piston' with colours of higher elevation, stabbing into a strip with colours of lower elevation

where M, L, H are medium, low and high elevation.
then there is a waterfall

you can change to cliff indicator to see roughly how high the waterfall may be.

the hard part is to get waterfall along with all other things you want for you fort.
