put the switch for the gears of the water pump connecting it to the waterwheel AWAY from that site, preferably somewhere higher that you can always reach, in case of accidental flooding

I found magma! "mayor, yould you inspect this latest trap we developed?"

AND now i can get rid of all the severed body parts in my refuse piles. Goblins sure create a mess when they die in pieces. I'm reconsidering my trap placement, thinking i should use more spiked balls. While the goblins died fine on discs, trolls and ogres more or less ignored them but had their heads caved in a bit further

Oh, right next to the magma is some kind of temple, full of zombies and skeletons. Bad news i guess?

make some statues with the silver to boost your worth, I'm sure they'll come then. Unless you have a metalsmith like mine that likes to make mastercraft statues of worms

My fort seems to be on break. I have 114 inhabitants and 30 are eating or drinking, 20 are sleeping and 50 are on break/no jobbing

Sorry guys, there is nothing to do. You could all go and train in the militairy, but theres no need to farm, cook, care for animals or... anything really. I still have about 100.000 worth of goods that i want to trade. some construction and some metalworks is all that is happening now.

The only time everyone is at work is when collecting spoils from the last goblin siege

do you guys have any way to deal with this?

and the mayor keeps asking for pewter items...

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Breeding
« on: November 14, 2011, 03:52:50 am »
1: in vanilla, you can pretty much have as many children as adults

2: I dont know

3: No, but the dorfs need to like eachther and meet regularly.. in such a small group of normal people you wouldnt expect dozens of mariages a year right? Also, they stay married, so an unmarried person will have a progressively smaller chance of even spotting another nmarried person. Of the opposite gender would be a bonus

4: Possible, probably. I dont think inbreeding has been installed so no worries there. There's someone who was running a fort 90 years now, so, 200 should be possible

Too bad there's no way to get all of your dwarves into a single location, preventing them from running around doing useless tasks.  I tried using burrows and placed all of my dwarves in it, but the dwarves just disregarded it in order to do whatever the hell they wanted.

From this experience, I've realized that pulling a lever doesn't mean that the lever is going to get pulled.  Dwarves seem to completely disregard your commands almost all the time, and there doesn't seem to be a way to change the order at which they do things.

Odd...it seems that for whatever reason, most of the siegers left...leaving a single bowman on top of a tree.  Are my melee units going to be able to reach him up there?  It seems that he ran out of ammo and is just pestering my units trying to pick up items.

a siege force leaves after a while

go to (w) for burrows and paint the whole inside of every floor where you want your population to run and play, and just have it like that. Next time in a siege you want to play with bridges, go to (m)ilitairy, (a)lerts and select the burrow you just created. All your civilians will now stay in the painted area

otherwise they will rush out to collect the items the dead caravan was carrying

My weapon smith has been posessed, and is collecting stuff. After my last battle with the goblins i have a fair amount of goblin and ogre corpses. He's going to decorate whatever it is with goblin and ogre bone, amethist and spider silk

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Can migrant waves be capped?
« on: November 13, 2011, 04:40:52 pm »
as sort of said before

you can edit the population cap of your fort. Migration will only happen if someting caused your fort to drop below that level (i put it at 105), but pregnancies and children from your dorf will occur as normally would. edit it in the init file. How can be found somewhere in the wiki, i'm too lazy to look it up for you. If you're too lazy to, shame on you :p

you can NOT influence how many migrants you get. Well, in a way you can. It seems to depend on how much too much you gave the visiting merchant from your capital. The more you give, the more and better the migrants, supposedly

never tried it myself
