And it's magma-safe, too. Such an useful stone...

I confirmed that there was indeed talc at that site.

Hilariously enough, talc isn't a flux stone.

I never got to use them, but I'd do so. Also, blocking a lot of wooden spears or jumping away from them is training, right?

I'm pretty sure cloaks are absurdly good at coverage, protecting everything from toes to the head. I think I've seen a cloak deflect a blow to the teeth...

Either way, they aren't very reliable, not being made of metal, but definitely make great supporting wear. And you can stack like six of them on top of the mail shirt and breastplate combo!

That setup is great as it is. The only thing you could add is a few more cloaks. Gauntlets cover the arms up to elbow, mail shirt covers them down to elbow, together with the cloak, so you're covered. Greaves, high boots, and even the mail shirt do a good job at covering the legs, too.

I don't think you've left any unprotected area.

Does he want stone, or stone blocks?  I mixed that up once.  I only realized my mistake when I made some stone blocks for something else and the mood dwarf took one.

Nevermind, it turned out I was right - llama wool cloth worked, then he grabbed some fungiwood to complete the mix.

Sphalerite, gold nuggets, bismuth bronze bars, silver bars, llama cloth, and fungiwood. Shame it's a possession, the materials sound awesome. He's a metalsmith, so it won't be a weapon, but can be some furniture or a chain, both of which can be useful.

Another question - untrained military with obsidian swords and bone armour against a giant olm. Who will win? I bet it'll be the military in the end, but what will be the losses?

EDIT: Hell, that was fast. Dawnchoke, bismuth bronze armour stand. Worth 67.2k dorfbucks, and that llama wool cloth was used for a recursive image.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: One of my animals is magenta. Why?

Oh. If it's magenta, then pigs are always that, right? It's the closest colour to the commonly used pink.

I haven't set any burrows - haven't learned how to do it yet.

There's a large load of copper, tin, and bismuth bronze bars in the three smelters, which are... 3 tiles away for copper, a few more for the others. Oh, and some silver and lead, too...
As for stone, then the answer is again yes. Two rooms located above the forge are devoted to being ore stockpiles, and then there are loads of stone everywhere where there has been any digging.

I'm more concerned why won't he grab other stuff, really.

He seems to have taken normal bronze bars, so I guess I'll try making a few more of those and see if he'll grab them first, then go for the wood and cloth.

My manager got possessed, claimed a forge, wants metal bars, stone, wood and cloth.

But he just won't take the wood and cloth, no matter how much I have. I even went to the caverns to make some spider silk cloth for him, and nothing... now I'll be trying to shear a llama and make some cloth out of that.

Still no idea on why won't he grab any wood.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Artifact bonuses?
« on: March 28, 2011, 06:54:49 pm »
As far as I know, artifact buildings ARE destructible, and cause a lot of depression for the creator when this happens...

The lead mace, hands down.

Lead is denser than silver. Only density matters when it's blunt weapons - silver is soft too, softer than iron and the like.

Also, it's an artifact.

Also, maces have twice the contact area of hammers, but also twice the size.

My militia commander, Fath Etesolin, was possessed. He had no moodable skills. And he likes spears. So...

He went to a craftsdwarf's workshop, and...

He has created Fath Etesolin, a yak bone spear.

HE NAMED HIS ARTIFACT AFTER HIMSELF
HOW NARCISSISTIC IS THAT

Anyway, I'm so having him use it. But only after he makes 9000+ bone bolts.

Pretty much. Normal clay makes earthenware, which has a x3 value multiplier. Fire clay makes stoneware, which has a x4 multiplier, and holds water without any glazing needed. Kaolinite... you know, porcelain and its x10 multiplier, same as iron.

Soon you'll tell us there is also kaolinite, the clay is fire clay, and... wait, there's flux? How? Even if it's marble, it shows up as flux in the overview...

Either way, I like that place indeed. Cold, lots of wood too..

Hunters are like that. My hunter also helped with a giant that came as an uninvited guest, together with 15+ wrestlers, one of which was missing a foot and uses a larch crutch to bash the giant on the head.

...good thing one person brought a steel axe eventually...

Oh, and a previous giant in another fort back in .18 died of a pick to the head, in a single blow, from a non-military miner.

It's a good thing that civilians help out sometimes! When they have tools to do so...
