As Gizogin and wierd reached the tank, Gizo X stepped out of the back.  He was facing away from Lana, and did not see her.  He called out to the approaching men.  "Ah, there you are!  I've been working on the suspension, and I think I can-"

He was interrupted by a peal of laughter from behind him.  He whipped around, to find Lana doubled over in a laughing fit.  She was looking back and forth between Gizogin and Gizo X, both of whom had the same expression of mild confusion and annoyance.  "You... and you... you mad old fool!" she managed, between roars of laughter.

[And with that, I'm off to bed.]

347
"It's a long story," she said, dismissing the question with a wave of her hand.  "I'm much more interested in this tank of yours, brother.  It seems you've been busy."

"Oh, yeah," Gizogin said, disoriented by the sudden change in topic.  "It's right over-" he started, pointing, but Lana had disappeared.  One second, she'd been standing right next to him, and the next she was over by the tank.  She'd gone from one place to the other without crossing the space between.  Wierd and Gizogin just stared.

"This is it, yeah?" she called out.  "Oh, come on.  It's rude to stare, you know," she laughed.

348
"Well, I guess it wouldn't be a problem," Gizogin responded hesitantly.  Suddenly, he remembered something.  "Oh, where are my manners?  Wierd, this is my sister, Lana.  Lana, this is wierd.  He's a..." he struggled for the word.  "A friend," he finished weakly.

"Charmed," Lana said, extending a hand.  Wierd didn't take it.  She dropped it, unperturbed.

349
[Wierd, you certainly have granted me the gift of laughter tonight.]

"Well, that was quite a perfomance, wierd," came the voice of Gizogin from across the courtyard.  "Glad to see you're awake."

"Gizogin," came wierd's testy reply.  "I didn't see you in the dorm."

"Are you kidding?  Cramped and sweaty?  No thank you."  He gestured to the woman beside him.  "I camped out with my sister.  She has a tent, you know."

Lich, that's pretty good, especially for MSPaint.  I like the "deadly spittle" especially.

[Gizogin, we really should go to that tower soon. Just need an excuse to leave the fort, and for a few of us to be in condition to travel.]

[Okay, but I think it's the middle of the night, in-story.  As soon as Gizo and Lana are sufficiently caught up, they're going to turn in for the night.  Gizogin has the G-Bodies taking care of the three from the crash, so he's not going to be needed for a while, and he's also completely exhausted.  Assuming they wake up around eight in the morning, Gizo X should wake up around the same time, as should wierd (maybe; I don't know the extent of his condition).  That'll leave everyone rested up and ready to tackle the tower in the morning.  I'm sure someone will have a good reason, but I'm sure I can give Lana one if it's needed.

I don't know the situation with that info crystal, and how much of Hugo's attention it's drawn, but I think he'd likely have noticed the sudden appearance of a strange woman by now.  I think at this point she and Gizogin have been talking for a good hour or so.]

For me, it's that the game is unfinished.  I hate the idea of having to restart a fortress when a new version comes out, even though it's been good recently about backwards-compatibility.

8/10

Random code is nice, and it looks pretty good.

"So where is Cog now?" asked Gizogin.  "I've been meaning to ask him about one of the books he left with me."

"I sent him home," replied Lana.  "He's not of this world, and his presence here was unbalancing things.  Actually, that brings me to my reason for coming to find you."

"Hang on, what do you mean, 'sent him home'?  You sent him to another world?  How does that work?"

"Oh, come on.  It's magic.  It's really not complicated, you know."  Lana peered at Gizogin curiously.  "You... you can't use magic, can you?"

"Of course not!" he replied.  "You mean to tell me you can?"

That got a laugh out of Lana.  "Well of course I can use magic!  I told you, it's not complicated."

Annoyed, Gizogin said, "Anyway, what did you need my help with?"

Lana stopped laughing, and was suddenly serious.  "Right.  Business.  As you know, we don't really belong here.  Our very presence is putting a bit of strain on things."

"What sort of things?" asked Gizogin.

"Oh, you know, the fabric of the multiverse, the space-time continuum, those sorts of things," she replied, waving her hand in a non-committal manner.  "Now, this ordinarily wouldn't be a problem; we're pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things."  She put up a finger, to forestall the question on Gizogin's lips.  "Cog was a different case.  His story is tangled up in all kinds of world-changing events, and his world could be seriously harmed by his absence.  There's something else, though.  Something big is stirring up a lot of trouble, and I want to find out what it is."

"Is this one of those if-we-don't-stop-it-the-universe-is-at-risk things?"

"Oh, nothing so big as that.  Mostly, I'm just curious."  Lana laid her head back on the grass and looked up at the storm clouds, still lightly drizzling.  "Anyway, I was hoping you could give me a hand trying to puzzle this out.  Judging by that big ship that just crashed within your walls, I'd say you're close to the center of it all."

"Well, I'm not sure how much help I can be.  All this magic and multiverse stuff is a bit out of my range.  I mean, feel free to stay here as long as you need, if you think it'll help," he added hurriedly.  "Sorry I can't really offer you the luxury suite, but we just had a pretty big earthquake, and we're still dealing with the fallout."

"Don't worry, I'm not in any hurry to leave.  And I'm used to camping out, so that's not a problem."

[Oof, I don't like finger-locks.  I am, however, very good at resisting elbow-locks.  For whatever reason, I can slip out of them ridiculously easily.  As for breaking nuts with a palm-strike, that's all well and good, but I can kick an apple off my brother's head from a standing position.  I can easily kick higher than my own head; it's a little bit scary.  It's too bad that trying to kick is one of the worst things you can do in a fight.]

Gizogin and Lana discussed his position as the chief doctor in the fort while he finished treating the survivors of the crash.  Lana had apparently learned of his presence at the fort after stumbling across Cog Wrathhammer in a tavern in a village not too far away.  He'd been drinking heavily, and was ranting about how everything was unfamiliar and weird.  "I've been all around the world," he'd said to anyone who'd listen, "and I ain't never seen these mountains before in my life!  And these constellations, they're wrong too!"  Eventually he'd come to the subject of the Bay12 fortress, and the "insane, morally-bankrupt doctor-man" living there.  Lana, intrigued, had pressed him for details, and he'd given her Gizogin's name.

"So, you heard about an insane doctor living in a hole in the ground in the middle of nowhere, and immediately thought of me?" Gizogin asked.

"Well, yes.  Yes I did."

[More to come in a bit; I have an errand to run.]

[Man, I have no pain tolerance whatsoever.  It's a bit odd, actually.  I've been learning and practicing martial arts for more than ten years now, and I like to think that I'm quite good at it, but I just don't respond well to pain or the threat thereof.

Gizogin, as I've said before, isn't me.  He doesn't have my martial arts experience, but it's possible he has a tougher constitution.]

On a slightly related note, how exactly does one have fractured guts?  That doesn't seem possible.

358
I'm in favor.  Definitely a cool-looking place to build a fort.

359
Gizogin stood up.  He'd just finished treating the dwarf's wounds, at least as much as he could with what he had available, and was about to move on to the human.  He turned around, and there was a tall, cloaked figure standing there.  Gizogin let out a cry and jumped back.  "Who are you?  Where did you come from?" he asked, startled.

"You don't remember me?" came the reply from within the dark hood.  "Really Warren, I'm disappointed in you."

Warren? thought Gizogin.  But no-one's called me that in years, not since... "Lana?" he sputtered.  "But, how did you...  What!?"

The figure laughed.  "Oh, I'd forgotten how funny you are when you're confused.  I'll explain everything later, don't you worry."  A gloved hand reached up out of the cloak and pulled back the hood.  Underneath was a woman with long, red hair and blue-grey eyes.  "I'm here because I need your help."

"Wait a minute," Gizogin replied, suspicious.  "Why should I help you?  Why should I even trust you?  You disappeared more than four years ago without a trace, and suddenly you're here, now?  How do I know you're even Lana?"

"I told you I'd explain later," the woman said.  Gizogin looked unimpressed.  "Fine, you want me to prove you can trust me?  That I am who I say I am?"

"Yes, that's the general idea."

The woman sighed.  From somewhere in the folds of her cloak, she produced a small, badly worn, yellow toy mouse.  She tossed it to Gizogin, who snatched it out of the air.  "What's-" he began, before he realized just what he was looking at.  "You had it?  You had it the whole time?  I thought I'd lost it!"  The woman gave a little smile, before being tackled into a hug by Gizogin.  "It really is you!" he said.  "I missed you, sis."

"I missed you too, big brother."

Well, it seems I missed a fairly large discussion.  I'm still catching up, but I can offer my meager modding experience to whatever we decide to add to the next fort.  A civ of dark versions of ourselves?  I could help with that.  Especially since I'm likely partly responsible, what with all my reality-tampering.
