So we get lots of (sometimes really tedious) stuff to make the game more realistic, but guns get nerfed for balance reasons?

647
It's been a while since I played, but the wiki was out of date then.

In other news: I found out that giant wasps are tougher than I remembered, that the reason I liked the ballroom dancer profession is the 2 dodge, and that the game can crash even though it's the stable version. (I have the game on fullscreen and was alt-tabbed to look for something in the wiki.)

The stable is a lot less stable than most experimentals.

I never use truly random encounters as a DM. I might have some little encounters (usually non-combat) prepared with a sentence or three and roll for them. They are usually made to show an aspect of the world or locale.

No game I ever played in used a lot (if any) of random encounters.

Another good ruleset might be Savage Worlds. It is not free but the core rule book (yes, only one) is cheap, the rules are easy to learn/use and flexible. Combat is not detailed as to make it fast. Most enemies die in one good hit, or take 2 decent ones. (First hit only makes someone shaken, 2nd one kills/wounds. But if you hit roll high enough you can do two or more wounds. Exploding dice make it more likely to do so.)

Thanks to the giveaway I played SUPERHOT.

It is hot indeed.  8)

Plague Inc and X-Piratez

Similar to Plague Inc, but to infect someone you need to fight a tactical turn based battle with your disease vs the hosts immune system cells. Instead of evolving you research new tools for the the battlefield and a way to affect ever greater numbers of humans. It would even work really well with X-Piratez system where you have different disadvantages in hot/cold climate.

I'd love to have Superhot and DoW II.

Thanks for gifting all those games!

+1 for X-Piratez openXcom MOD. Thanks for reminding me, I'll have to get back to my playthrough of it this weekend.

It gets pretty grindy later on, because there's SO much to research, but I loved the early game combat. There's nothing more satisfying than flamethrowers and hammer gals, backed up by a few explosive cannonballs for fire support. Xcom original actually does melee pretty well when it's the focus, while the variety of weapons later on keeps it interesting. Also, a great take on the armour system, with plenty of playstyles available for when you're getting bored of arrow lobbing or sniping everything.

Totally recommend the mod to any Xcom fan.

Hammergals aren't what they used to be because there is an evade mechanic now where shooting next to an enemy has a high chance of that shot going a random direction. As hammers use the shooting mechanic they are affected as well. The enemies suffer from this as well of course, and the AI being what it is means you can be safer right next to an enemy, though safety is not guaranteed, so it is a nice game of chance.

X-Piratez, a mod for Open X-Com.
There is just so much stuff. And it manages the "underdogs in a world in which the aliens won" a lot better than XCom2 (which I really enjoyed). Even after you research armor that is better than what most enemies wear and have weapons to deal with most enemies, when a lot of missions are optional because all you get is some points, little money and a few potential slaves it manages to stay interesting. Some enemies will always be a threat.
You can also tame werewolves and use them to fight for you, that alone makes it the awesome.

Yeah, I watched the 1st mission. And I want to discover the MechLab myself as well, even if there are no story spoilers.

656
Thanks for keeping us updated.

Though I don't watch the streams anymore because I want to discover the stuff for myself.

657
The way the AI uses elementals they are not that much of a threat. The worst thing are their SRMs.

658
Yes to both, especially as the Puma is only salvage anyway.

Thanks Dohon , sign me up i really wanna play it before the 24 :D

I don't think you will, even if you win here. :P

For the record I am not signing up, as I already backed the game. But I like what you do here.

Yes, I'd say they are more balanced than in TT. About the same weight for the same damage with some pros and cons on both sides. Even if you need more heatsinks for the PPCs after the first one it is still not as bad as the TT AC/5 in my opinion.
Of course until we know the exact stats it is impossible to say.

Does anyone know if stability is the same for all mechs or if it is more difficult to make an assault fall?
