I see a lot of people talking about their 10-z level drops and i dont want to be left out. Exactly how does one go about creating them? I tried channeling several floors but that ended with 2 miners falling and breaking their legs and 3 others being crushed to death in a manner i can only describe as "terrifying".

You're a dwarf, you can describe it better than that.

There are a few problems with this:

terrain falls instantly. Dwarves do not. The terrain would fall through them killing them instantly while leaving them suspended in mid-air.

I wonder, would slowly flooding the miners' area carry them up the ramps or would it just drown them?

Edit: It probably wouldn't, due to pressurized fluids being weird, but do it anyway to make them suffer. Magma is too quick for them.

Lead is juuuuuuuuuuuuuust barely denser, and maces suck, hard. Hammers are better canopeners. Silver hammer. And the artifact bonus doesn't really do all that much, IIRC.

Hurt him again. I believe a repeating spike trap does the job. Use the crappiest spike you can get. Poke him until the doctor notices. Do so until he does SOMETHING about it.
