Okamiden, for the DS. An awesome game based in Japanese mythology, and drawn like it's from Japanese mythology. A weird experience, but very fun.

Second the Zelda and Pokemon recs. I've been really enjoying Spirit Tracks. Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald (GBA) is probably the best. Don't get Black/White unless you really want to sympathize with terrorists or can treat the whole plot like a satire. I honestly want to join the 'bad' guys and turn them into a legitimate political party.

If you want to learn about navigating gender issues, http://finallyfeminism101.wordpress.com/ is a pretty good intro resource. I'm not surprised that you couldn't find "kyriarchy" in dictionary.com, it's not something that gets bandied about a lot.  "Patriarchy" is more likely to be in there, but that's a pretty limited word (gender dynamics aren't the only source of weird cultural power-balances by any means).  And Derailing for Dummies is at http://www.derailingfordummies.com/. It's a pretty funny read (in a laugh-so-I-don't-cry way).

I'd be fine with discussing how gender relations are handled in DF, but I think any discussion of RL gender issues needs to be handled very carefully. I don't think this forum is a good place for that kind of discussion.

NW_Kohaku disappeared for far longer than the week we decided on and enforced. So yes, if it's your turn it's your turn.

If you have questions, ask them.

If you want to totally avoid whatever-it-was that scared you off, feel free!

If the fort devolves into a swirling mass of !!FUN!!, whatever, this is DF. Community forts are practically supposed to do that.

Implication #2: As opposed to guys, who are all totally capable of making choice to play an unpopular, not-fashionable ASCII sandbox game.

Also, you said flat out that the game would have to be nerfed in order to attract girls.

2) You then disappeared from the thread.
3) When you reappeared, you didn't say anything about taking a turn, or mention any steps towards moving the game forward.

All this adds up to you abdicating your turn. If that wasn't your intent, you should have made that clearer.

dfprospector only counts revealed tiles by default. Try either revealing the entire map and then running prospector (leave the game paused while you do this!) or running it with the all-tiles option.

That quote just makes me rage.  Refusing to question someone's presentation means someone isn't sexist? I guess all the plantation owners who called their black slaves 'animals' weren't racist - they sure didn't question whether their slaves were black!

This forum *is* sexist and off-putting, whenever someone realizes that there is a second gender on the planet. Like this thread! It's basically been one long exercise in sexist bull, interspersed with people pointing out the sexist bull. It was started by somebody going "Herp derp, I just realized girls exist! On this forum, no less." and went downhill from there. 

Forgetting to take other people's gender into account is being sexist. It's a privileged assumption that other people's gender *doesn't matter*. This forum does it all the time. It's not as bad as explicitly encouraging harassment. Are we seriously setting the bar for behavior that low?

Well, I think either me or agatharchides is up next. agatharchides hasn't been on since the 8th, so I guess it's my turn.

I'll download Blade Master Model 42's save and see what kind of progress I can make on it. I don't have a lot of time right now, but I think I can get my year finished in 7-8 days.

Don't worry. Everyone spends the first few months of playing DF feeling like a failure. A lot of people underestimate the importance of good food and bedrooms when they start out.  Space is one of the few things a fort can never run out of, so I wouldn't worry about room size.

My current fort is just starting out. I'm in the middle of the first year, so my masons are going crazy trying to keep up with all the build-wall jobs.
