Btw, why no leather armor and wooden shields? Or copper at all?

Also, after a fight, will you record stat increases to add, or do they reset to what we buy?
I am using metal armor because I only have melee weapons. Copper is a poor metal to make armor from. Stats do not increase for the simple reason that, in testing, I've seen a character get very overpowered very quickly vs a new character. I reset each character each battle and they are reset to what you buy. Thanks for joining! :)

By 9PM PST the first battles will be up. The "short story" will only be a write up about the final blow. I will post a text log (from DF) of the actual full battle for your reading pleasure.

You don't have to write out every single blow... Just something like "The combatants traded blows for some time, neither breaching the others defences until, suddenly, the goblin struck out with his sword, severing the elf's head from his shoulders! The crowd went wild!"

I was considering that, just giving the ending in story form basically.

I am finding that writing out the little stories about the battles is difficult, some of the battles last forever with "filler" attacks (dodge, parry, miss, etc.) And even with the attacks that connect I still ended up with one battle being over 1,000 words. Doing that for several battles in a row is not my cup o' tea. I will however post a conclusion (who killed whom) and under a seperate spoiler I will post the battle report for all to enjoy. I tell ya though, dwarves get some insane teeth action going! First battles will be up after school tomorrow. Giving time for more prisoners entertainment warriors to show if they'd like.

You could make youtube videos of each the arena fights, right?
I honestly would not want to spend a huge amount of time doing that and uploading all of them. Besides, you wouldn't really be able to tell who was who. Just a bunch of little "male" looking sprites and some blood etc. This is just a little fun thing for me to do outside of going to school full-time.

Oh gracious. You are so right though. Some of the weirdest names ever and sometimes the names go together. Last names can be funny too.

So how will this work, being all forum text and such?

I build the characters with the selected skills and gear and put them into the object testing arena and post the results back here for all to enjoy.

i was talking about my arena thread and dont grammer nazis talk about bad spelling not race gender beening upside down?

He wasn't being a grammar nazi. He was, however, pointing out that your gender means if your player is male or female. I have also removed Gnome as a playable race. I am setting you as a human male. If you would like to change that then just post.

Also, as far as names go, gladiators do not really get names. I will throw a story on here in a bit and it will explain why.

I will have the first battles a bit later today. I am on Pacific Standard Time (GMT -8)

I enjoyed the concept of the Arena Battles thread opened by another user on the forum. Since that user is incapacitated for the time being, I decided to start my own.

My idea is a bit more involved and if you have questions, please do not hesitate to ask in the thread or via PM. Thanks!

The Plan:
For the first rounds players will be pitted against eachother. Winners will be given an amount of AG (arena gold) which will allow them to purchase new skill points and equipment. The loser will not lose anything and, if they killed anyone before they died, they will be given a small amount of AG. If a player cannot make a kill after a few battles, I will give the chance to start a new character. If someone starts a new player and there are no other new players to battle they will be pitted against an NPC or a beast. Later battles will involve battles against different beasts, group battles, team versus team battles, etc. Enjoy!
Battles will be updated at least once a week, probably on a Monday. Everyone starts with 500 AG.

AG may be used in the shop or to purchase skill points. The 500 AG you start with will be used to purchase your initial gear and skills.

You may play as a human, kobold, elf, goblin, or dwarf.

Please post the filled out character sheet to begin!

Would it be rude of me to start my own arena battles thread?

Oh no. I hope it all works out. Definitely make sure you are keeping that thing cool. I lost a laptop at one point just out of stupidity of overheating it.

On that note, add another vote for not making a succession fort. If you want to make your own soap fort then feel free but, this is Zeph's fort, end of story.

theirs a reason they are not on there also the only why i killed lafiel was TEN GAINT BADGERS WITH STEEL ARMOR 2 DIED WITH 5 HEAVILY WOUNDED 3 BLEED TO DEATH 20 SECONDS LATTER and now hes got more skills more armor and the money to buy any thing that gets looted of of himlike thats going to happen so find his weakness so we can kill him

Do you reset each character before the beginning of each battle so that their skills are not gaining exp or do you just leave them on the field?
