Dorfs can be hardcore little bastards. And sometimes, they take the hardcore and shit down its neck with the glorious fury of Armok, all while sleeping on a bed with a beer keg in one hand.

Also, a lil' story of my own; A forgotten beast had found its way into my fort. "Oh god, and it has toxic blood!" i thought, shortly followed by "OH MY GOODNESS THERE IS A GIGANTIC PURPLE CROCODILE WITH DEADLY BLOOD RAMPAGING AROUND IN MY MAIN HALL". So i send my silly military after it, which amounted to two steel-clad dorfs wielding picks, entirely untrained in mining (the only legendary miner i had left was resting her injuries). Obviously, i expected them to die quickly, but they FUCKED ITS SHIT UP. A few days after the fight started, they had killed it by systematically mining out almost every bone and organ in its body, with obviously bloody results. None of them sustained any injuries, apart from spontaneous bleedouts caused by infections from the blood, which went on to cause several deaths.

This fort also had a nice moment to begin with. A wild polar bear approached my newly arrived band of dorfs. There were no military dorfs among the 7, so i just set them all to military so they could have a go at the bear before it ate them. First thing that happens is that one of my miners blazes after the bear, and initiates a savage fistfight with it. Although she was on the losing side (received numerous crippling injuries, and was doomed to be a crutchwalker), she held out until the other dorfs arrived, after which they began punching it to death in a spectacular symphony of fists and beards. The bear died, and the miner became the most hardcore dorf in the entire fortress, even after a few years with more than one accident involving broken bones.

Y'know, that's an extremely dorfy idea. It might even light another wildfire. :U
I'm currently playing on another fort, but if/when i get back to it, i'll definitely add a layer of magma on top of the gigadorf.

THIS.

Hands down, for me. I cast the obsidian with magma from a volcano and water from my underground lake. It's supported by a single pillar linked to a lever inside the fortress. IT IS A GIANT DORF BEING DROPPED ON THE ENEMY. Bonus points acquired when the casting started a wildfire.

Once had a naked goblin survive passing through a triple-steel serrated disk trap with an artifact mechanism. Granted, the next one sliced him up good, but still. Also, when a goblin ambush decided to go through all those delicious sawblades, one of them managed to dodge two traps back and land on safe ground. He did bleed to death some time later, BUT STILL. All the other gobs fell 20z down and exploded, but this one guy dodged backwards TWICE and ended up on a tile with an occupied cage trap.

Inhaled? Sounds about right. :P

@Kassil: Lava and general awesome-but-impractical-ness. Or just an outrageously weird place.

Because of DF, i find myself planning how to make my future house more dorfy by adding levers for various mechanisms, along with a place where i can melt stones to make magma.

>.>

I'm not sure if it'd be legal, though. Oh, and i've also begun rating landscapes (mostly virtual though) on their level of dorfiness. Based on this, i tend to settle in dorfy areas of Minecraft. It has infected my mind like some kind of glorious syndrome!

Most of my friends just call it "that weird game", though that's what they call most games i play in school, anyways. Me and my bro just refer to it as "dorf" between us, since "dwarf fortress" is a bit of a mouthful for our lazy danish vocal chords. :P (we also refer to the act of playing it as "dorfing")
I wish i could spark enough interest in my classmates for some proper nicknames to occur, but alas, no such luck. They ain't ready for the hardcore that is dorf.

Pretty much. Well, more like yellow-ish oil rather than white stuff. Otherwise yeah. I managed to get a look at her description before she died, and uhh... It wasn't pretty. Every single body part melting and oozing blood.

Just set a tree on fire and pinned a hapless human near it. She melted like an overdone marshmellow.

Booyah more reason to draw silly comics!

Or just don't build walls in a manner that can trap them, despite infinite idiocy.

Dear world,

You can find me dug down in my own backyard, because i feel dumb enough to bury myself in a hole.

Yours truly,
Shook McFailedassumption

And on a different note...

Dear Urist McReloadcagetrap,

I know it's important to keep the traps loaded, but wading out into a goblin ambush probably wasn't the best idea you ever had. Then again, you did manage to lure them into the deadly serrated steel disks. You should've seen the looks on their faces! Especially that face they made while falling down a very deep pit with several limbs and internal organs missing. A perfect blend of "oh god i'm going to die horribly" and "man i am glad it's over soon". The bottom room also got a nice new paint job. All thanks to your braindead escapades!

Yours still laughing,
Time controlling X in the sky

To: Overseer President Evil.

What about trees?  Those are evil, and they cave in if the area under them is dug out.

From: The administration of your friendly Tree-hating Dragonfolk of Tallfires.

Dear Tree-Hating Dragonfolk,

We are on a glacier. So probably not. Besides, as I may not have made clear initially, I merely assigned him to hollow out a hill that had tasty, delicious flux in it. So there's that too.

Thanks anyway,
Oversser PresidentEvil
Salutations, fellow overseer PresidentEvil!

Natural walls always have floors above them, and mining does not remove these. Thus, if you mine out ALL walls in the hill, the ceiling will collapse and kill just as well as any wall. Urist McMinerton found out the hard way.

Kind regards,
Shook McOverseer

Just got attacked by an unforeseen forgotten beast. Just a scaly slug, but still, my militia was like 5 ill-trained dorfs in total. It buttknapped most of them, and even a miner or two. The third miner finally decided to mine out its brain. Lost 5 dorfs so far, but i reckon some infections will take place as well.
