Aaand one more fortress related one. About rock toy boats.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

At least he became a competent punner.

Such an encounter is very Fun for the dorf in question. Crossbows are rather useless in a scrap, especially without hammerdorf skill. Hunters USUALLY don't beat down critters with their crossbows (but hell if it wouldn't be the manliest hunt ever), so you'll have to cross-train them if you want to give them a tiny chance. Or just... Do what the others said, and assign some dogs/bears to the hunter. I'm still only an adequate overseer. :U

2943
That being said though, hunters tend to get to legendary marksdorf reasonably quickly. A legendary marksdorf will screw anyones shit up before they know where the bolts came from. And the hunters won't flee, perhaps (and i hypothesize) unless the enemies get really close. They might be in trouble if that happens, though.

2944
Hunters should arm themselves. You just need a crossbow and some ammo. Both can be made out of wood, bone or metal, though wooden bolts are obviously less effective than bone or metal. It matters less for the crossbow, since their material only affects how well they can act as improvised clubs.

Edit: Oh, and a quiver is probably necessary too, which is made of leather.

Rock boats?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Yeeeeeeeeah. Anyways, once you get lots of weapon-grade metal, you can also make serrated metal disks to sell for crazy monies. A masterwork iron disk goes for approximately 15k dorfbux, which, in daily terms, is a holy fuckload. That being said though, you may want to hold on to those if you plan on making weapon traps. :P

I didn't know that crafts and such yielded multiple objects per rock, though. Now i know what to do with all those large clusters of useless rock i mine out! (other than making large dorfbombs to drop on invaders)

Excellent, gentlemen. Excellent. You just made my mood jump from fine to happy. :D
Also, some goblins make me wonder.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Why the glowing balls of destruction do they keep attacking a hugely legendary adventurer with hundreds of kills on his/her name? Are they expecting to win against a guy who could probably glare them to death?

Embarked on a glacier. After a frantic start with a polar bear crippling a miner, they are now very busy throwing a huge party. In a glacier. When they're supposed to bring me some fuggin magma. Silly dorfs.

Maybe he realized the TRUTH...That he's a minor pawn controlled by an unforgiving and bored entity in a cruel world... beard
More like it. Also, if only Urist McRemoveconstruction didn't remove the floor below Urist McOblivious...

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: At peace with goblins. What?
« on: April 19, 2011, 05:12:12 pm »
And speaking of this thread, i found out that they most certainly aren't at peace with me. It was ALL AN ILLUSION to lull me into a false sense of security. That being said though, their sieges were dinkier than little chinese teacups.

Sorry, trees are (somehow) magma-proof.  Magma can only destroy an object by being in the same tile as it, and trees block the flow of liquids, so pouring magma on trees will not destroy the tree.
The magma would cause fires, and the tree would be consumed BY THE FIERY WRATH OF ARMOK!
I beg to differ. Trees can SOMEHOW survive a raging bushfire. :c

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: How evil are you?
« on: April 19, 2011, 10:59:53 am »
I'm not much of an evil overlord. Worst thing i've done (other than dropping a bear on a berserk dorf, but he was berserking) is probably to crush a horde of pets under a drawbridge, because they were shitting out kittens and such all the time. The dorfs were otherwise too happy to care. :P

Dorfs that insist on causing cave-ins when told to remove a hanging floor. Also, dorfs who stand on floors being removed, while removing the floor beneath someone else. I mean seriously, how the fenrisulfr is such a mindblowing level of stupidity even attainable by anything? I know dorfs aren't supposed to be the brightest of lights, but goodness me!

2953
Seal your dorfs in and set the whole fuggin world on fire. It looks ridiculously cool!
... Or make magma smelters/forges, if you haven't already. Being able to smelt ores by looking angrily at them is pretty rad.

And finally, if you're feeling really dorfy, use it in a mold with water to cast a large obsidian object, which you preferrably drop on someone from high above. It'll even leave a nice stamp on the ground, due to the obsidian being counted as natural walls. Just don't forget that it'll hammer right through any floors with impunity, since i've forgotten it multiple times myself.

...

Oh wait, you said least destructive. But don't tell me you aren't tempted. :P

Ouch. Something slightly similar happened to me, though that was just a careless cave-in from me causing it, and a much smaller amount of magma involved. But flooding your fort with magma in under 2 minutes? That's fast.

Also, i accidentally set the world on fire.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

All my dorfs were locked inside, so only some animals died in the fire. But why? Well, to build this:

I call it the Dorf Bomb. :P

Glad to hear you're still enjoying my senseless scribbles! I enjoy making them too, so it's a beautiful win-win situation. :D
Also, another fortress-related one, this time on danger rooms.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Instant hardcore; just add dorfs!
