Just found the magma sea and thus raw adamantine, for the first time. Next achievement would be to find the HFS. :U

I have more tables than dorfs, so i doubt that's an issue. The pop cap is set to 40, due to performance issues on my laptop, so i probably won't be needing a bigger dining room any time soon. :P

That's pretty neat, much more smooth and thought out than my fort. :U

Spoiler: main fort (click to show/hide)

I embarked in a swamp, and i couldn't be assed to dig it all out of stone. So, i had to dig AROUND all the lakes, making it look a bit curious. Also, the bedroom is one level below, though it's nothing special.

What? Not my fault that the dorfs decide to strip naked when putting on armor. However, if we descend another 58z...

Spoiler: MAGMA (click to show/hide)

Magma and untold quantities of metal bars. Fuck yeah.

Just found magma for the very first time, in the form of a pool at -60z. I now realize why it is so incredibly dorfy, since my legendary furnace operator can smelt at an absolutely obscene rate. Also, because my engraver melted after carving a fortification. The smelting itself takes just about a second to complete, so it's mainly the short transport slowing him down. Am happy now. :D

My fort is called Rageportal. And it was initially founded by The Polished Balls. "Rage" and "balls" are two words i use a lot. Some day, they will join forces, and make the world explode!

And speaking of this, i often get that message in a buggy manner. I complete a quest, brag my ass off and take a new quest. Hey presto, completely identical quest! I just have to re-report the death of X, after which the questgiver says just that. It is of moderate annoyance, since my killing rate could be higher if it didn't happen.

You can't target it directly, though given that it takes the form of a massive layer of bone inside the head (not a skull, but functions much like it), it makes the head EXTREMELY hard to injure. (read: survived several dozens of night beast punches and kicks to the head while unconscious, died because of torn throat)
I should probably make it some sort of gas instead, so your head explodes in a massive cloud of rage upon death. Extra bonus if people go flying as a result.

@GreatWyrmGold: Indeed. Here they are:

Unfortunately, there's not enough room in this post to contain the creature file, so you'll have to make do with this link. Let me know if you can't view it, i'm not quite familiar with pastebin yet.

Managed to get my legendary one-handing axe lord killed by a crossbow bolt to the head.

:C

He even survived taking one in the back of the head before, where it just tore the skin. Oh well, i bet people will know him (and the bandits who killed him) then. He went up to 140 notable kills (and a few other kills, including two bears chopped in half), with the only useful armor being greaves and a shield. Racking up that many kills with mostly cloth "armor" is pretty impressive, if you ask me. All with the same axe. :D
This also happens to be the first time i've ever been shot and killed. EVER.

If a bone is broken, it would be interesting to see, for example a rib, go through an organ.
That already happens, somewhat frequently even. The only way a hammerdude can kill you right now is a headbash, or a lucky shot to the torso that blasts a rib through your heart/lungs. Or maybe break the upper spine, resulting in total paralysis and suffocation, but that falls under a headbash.

Reminds me of today, where i jumped into a camp of ~40 bandits (humies and elves) on my own. They all died, despite them having like 8 archers, which only managed to nail me twice; once puncturing my dwarven liver (oh god no), and once bruising my leg (HOLY SHIT MAN I GOT MY THIGH BRUISED I AM GOING TO DIE NOW). Leading causes of death were decapitation, bisection and bleeding. (in other words, all possible deaths in melee combat except suffocation)
Oh, and this was also with my one-handed dorfturbine, which further cements the belief of one-handedness equalling awesome.

I am new, very much so. Joined in .18 i believe. Forgive me for not knowing how stuff worked before, but i'm not the kind of guy who digs through the old versions of a game, in order to be up to date with the history of it. If the previous versions included the types of injuries i mentioned (blunt ruptures organs etc), then yeah, bring back the old injury system and such. I do believe that you don't have to be a grizzled veteran in order to suggest additions/changes, though. Even though i did overread the part about organ damage being serious before. :P

Isn't that the main ways you die in real life too? Barring old age, of course. In reality, most premature deaths are, in one way or another, caused by:
a) Suffocation (including drowning)
b) Bleeding (internally too)
c) Brain trauma (or beheading, if you want)
d) Infections (and disease)

And all of these can happen in DF. That being said, i am somewhat irked at the low killing power of blunt weapons, as well as the general ineffectiveness of bruising internal organs. If you took a hammer strike to the liver in real life, you'd collapse in pain and suffer severe internal bleeding. In DF, you go "ow" and chop the hammerman's head off, possibly with some pain involved, but nothing crippling. Likewise with kidneys; they supposedly hurt like all hell to get hit in, and a ruptured kidney bleeds A LOT. In DF, my adventurer easily survived getting stabbed in the kidney by a spear.

In other words, a severe blunt impact should rupture internal organs, not just bruise them. Not always, naturally, but it should happen sometimes. Also, organ damage should probably be a tad more severe, and skulls should break less easily, if it were to be totally realistic. Otherwise i'm mostly happy with the combat. ESPECIALLY how you have to deal with large creatures in a more realistic manner. The classic i-stab-your-toe HP-draining combat bugs me, so being charged and smashed by them in DF is almost refreshing. Almost.

Nope, but now that you mention it, it's one of my better inadvertent stealth puns. :U

Ouch. Fists hurt in DF. :P
Also, had an encounter with a night beast recently.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Last panel sums up my feelings at the time being. It's directed at the night beast, by the way. Just so you don't go around feeling offended. =P

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Embark Temperature Preferences?

Warm or temperate, because i'm usually too dumb to get an indoor pool before it all freezes over. Cue the injured dorfs and subsequent tantrum spiral! Oh, and i avoid aquifers like you'd avoid stepping on a doggie poo. Last time, i could barely get a few z-levels down without having fun.
