Yeah, and what will you do if Russia starts shooting down NATO planes flying near the Russian airspace borders in response to NATO shooting down Russian air patrols?

I don't think we should shoot anyone down for moral reasons, but there is a difference between shooting down planes in your airspace and shooting planes near your airspace borders.
The problem is - those Tu-95 bombers which trigger plenty of gung-ho reactions in Western Europe and America fly close to NATO airspace borders (but not in it). Shooting them down can create a very dangerous precedent.

We should start shooting them down, claiming we did not know they were Russian. Let's pit our chuzpa against Putin's.

Belarus is a Russian military ally housing Russian aircraft and strategic land connections leading to Moscow. We'll be hit on day 1 if shit hits the fan.

Also, pardon me if I sound flamey, but the popular sentiment stating that the West can easily win a conventional war with Russia is very much present, among both ordinary people and Pentagon strategists, and that is really dangerous.
Actually my money would be on Lukashenko having enough brains to declare Belarus neutral, and then either wait out the whole war or put up some token resistance against Russian occupation. This would not necessarily mean that no Belarusian territory will get nuked, but it will make it less likely.

And why do you think the West would be unable to win a conventional war against Russia?
It can escalate towards a nuclear war, limited or full scale, it doesn't matter.

You guys just can't stop talking about Russia, don't you?
Seriously, you have internet, which allows you to soothe the tenses your governments force on you by speaking directly to people half over the globe to see they are no less and no more human than you are, and all you do is ensue the conflict? From both sides? Why do you do that?

Well, if some guy in the White House decides that Russia can be easily defeated by conventional means and bombs start falling at my home one summer morning, [abbr=""YOU FUCKERS HAVE BOMBED MY FUCKING HOUSE FUCK YOU NATO FASCIST SCUM" - "It's all your fault, Guardian - if you had aligned yourself with the West, this wouldn't have happened"" - "WELL FUCK YOU YOU SC-" -nuked-]all this Internet connection won't make my situation any better[/abbr].

You're in Belarus anyway, not Russia.

Yeah, the ironic thing is that if Denmark's ambassador had done the same in Russia (or rather, to keep sizes the same, if the US ambassador had done the same in Belarus) we'd have our Russian members crying their eyes out about how hostile "the West" is.
Compared to Russia, NATO's is less focused on talking and more focused on encroaching and bombing.  :P

The US government has announced it will lift anti-Russian sanctions only if Russia abandons the Crimean peninsula.
Thus, the US-Russian stand-off shall continue either until the end of the USA or until Russia's unconditional surrender to America (caused by a war or a pro-US coup d'etat).

Weird, I thought only impoverished schoolchildren in Russia and other post-Soviet countries in the 1990s snuffed glue to get high.

1st of March! Winter is behind us!

Why is it snowing so heavily? Seriously, it's snowing more now than it has this winter over here.
Russia stole all heat. Most of the snow here has already melted away. There are water puddles and dog shit piles everywhere.
Where I live, snowfall happened only once in January. This winter is extremely warm even by warm winter standards.

Ooh, I was kinda nostalgic for the old Russia threads the other day. Never expected to see the most flame-inducing discussion topic in the whole of Eastern Hemisphere back again so soon in this very thread.

Now, here's something to make this post meaningful in some way:

There isn't a Russia thread anymore iirc, so I'll put this here:

A government official who opposed Putin was shot to death near ("meters from") the Kremlin.

Calling it now, it was orchestrated by Putin (of course he's going to condemn it) or one of his allies. Wouldn't be surprised if it was.
I really don't think the death of Nemtsov benefits Putin in any way. Nemtsov's assassination won't stop the Russian liberals - in fact, he is definitely set to become an internationally recognized "martyr" that will rejuvenate the Russian liberal opposition and will make it stronger. Why would Putin decide to throw such a brilliant propaganda boon to his domestic and foreign enemies? It doesn't make sense.

They also got their Congos mixed.
Furthermore, it's hard to see, but Serbia and Montenegro are still marked as united on that CNN map. South Sudan also doesn't exist.
