Speaking of actions getting lost, I had posted that my guy went to talk to Nikephoros about gunpowder. Still waiting on that.

Sorry about that, I am kind of removed from action through the merit of real life events. sufficient to say I will reply to you later tonight. Also, I assume that the attack by Empire is public knowledge now? If so Niko will be gearing up for spring campaign...

An Overgod. That thought suddenly appeared and stayed in Ardas' mind, leaving him restless on his throne. For some unknown yet reason, the light in the halls slightly dimmed and he felt uneasy, for the first time in his existence. Something one would think impossible to the ethereal form of a god. He then felt a pull to one certain place in the mortal realm, a forest full of unexplainable power.

That power was strange and alien to Ardas, yet he felt compelled to seek it out and see what was it all about. He did not hesitate long before deciding to go and appear at the source of power, in his full splendour of bronze and gold.

He appeared at the circle, close to the stone with his name. He stood the silently, his gaze hidden beneath his hood. He observed and said none to any of the gathered Gods.

I built my army to do this one thing. You may notice the lack of heavy or archer

I will mow them down and spit them out beofre the end of breakfast.

Welp, so do I have to write about Lonemine?

Whatever you want. We aren't doing any trade for now, so its not an issue.

Technically we don't need the resources for the heavy upgrade :P

Yeah, but once we start cranking out troops, i was thinking that having iron resource and a permament armory complex to manufacture aarms and armor would make recruitment and upkeep cheaper. Economies of scale and all that.

Well, with heavy cavalry able  to flank the enemy it could be made even more effective. Hammer and anvil, if it were...

Yep, just as Alexander did. But for that we will need access to good horses and more than enough iron ore to equip the war machine.

Send a Diplomat to Lonemine, they have plenty of Iron Ore/Steel.

Autarky is a goal that any empire should strive for. But your proposal may suffice for the time being.

@ Nuke & Taricus: You are right. Legion will be a core of heavy infantry organized as tercio (once them guns arrive and Niko will learn of them; can go without but then it isn't as effective.). It will be a base unit that will be recruitable straight away and will have all of the strength and reach and discipline already from the start as part of the extended training and recruitment. I will sacrifice two seasons for research and re-fitting of the infatry in the army.

As Nuke rightly stated, the rest of the unit types will be made lighter and will serve in a support role. What I have in mind for the war doctrine is to have heavy line infantry march forward and smash the enemy, while the lighter troops will move and manouver at the flanks. In this doctrine enemy cavalry is not the problem, as heavy pikes take care of it, and the noble levy should be able to serve as flank protection. Enemy archers are outright devastated by tercio fire, so that is not a problem either.

The core of Ligorian army is the Crown. It should remain so and Crown should be able to wage war in all conditions, whether supported by nobles or not. If nobles are persuaded then conquest can be faster as they will be helping in the war effort. Otherwise Laythe can go at it alone and the Legion should be a sure way of securing an empire.

Way to dig yourself a grave. But seriously, butchering innocents? Burning the county for no reason? Nikephoros will flay you and stick you on a pole for that.

Yeah, something basic like personal pistols and small hand cannons. Kind of a prototype tercio, but nowhere at the level that I'm planning.
Again, I'm planning to mix guns, pikes and swords in one and give them Roman discipline: honouring the standards and banners, unflinching loyalty to officers, always in fromation and the works.
In real life the renaissance commanders did kind of the same thing with early modern regular armies.

Its a merc regiment which has mixed weapons(swords and polearms). Since they are veteran soldiers, i would give them the "disciplined" perk. Potenially "heavy" but I think that would be tad too much.
Also I'm afraid I won't be much use to you today, playing Skyrim right now.

I just finished my daily reading of the bazillion new pages in th IC and OOC thread. God you lot are crazy...

Tell me about it. I have that feeling every day when I wake up and have to read up through everything because half of the players are on the other side of the world and everything happens when I'm sleeping.

I honestly would wait until spring when the enemy is strained after the siege and winter and then march out. Waging war during winter is feasible, but not advisable.
That said i am waiting for queen's orders, whatever they may be. You got to inform me of this stuff first though,. I'm off for now.

E: If you manage to secure guns for the army I can proceed with a proper tercio organisation. But again that would need tweaking and again ramp up the costs.
You can think about the idea of having a permament arsenal+factory attached to the city if the gunpowder troops are to be trained. Would help to keep the costs down and allow for local manufature.

Am I in the room or did the runner came later after the discussion about army? Besides I doubt I will be marching anywhere in the winter.

So, it starts to look like your typical dilemma: do you fork out on a uni or on army? Pen or the sword?

As for the reach upgrade: Taking a way a point is fine, if its needed for balance purposes.
