I do have a tendency to go on long TVTropes or Wikipedia knowledge binges but only because I was bored to start, I'd never stop working for it. Except in one subject at school, ICT. In that subject about 10 classmates and I would "wiki-race". We would start on one article on wikipedia and see who could reach the destination article first, just by using hyperlinks and none of the disambiguations or index lists. Don't judge, we're not all losers, it was both a really boring class (due to pointless tedium) and a surprisingly fun game.

A good variant of this is having Wikipedia find you a random article and then trying to get to Adolf Hitler's page in as little clicks as possible.

I suppose it can be easy at times considering WWII was a major event.

Crusader Kings can be interesting if you're into Paradox Interactive's style of games.

Too bad you're going the rogue-like/no graphics route, because that is the only thing I am good at.

Yeah, I can't imagine a voting system for moderators ever being abused. 

I'd rather moderators just be chosen by Toady/ThreeToe if it ever came to that, and if people didn't like the picks, well: "There's the door."

If it really gets to you so much that you have to start a topic about it, then you can just ignore it. But, really, if it does bother you, then I don't think the internet is the best way to spend your time.

If it bothers me I just report it in the hopes of said person getting muted, or banned.

I don't think it'd be displaced any further unless more forums were added that were in-line with the 'Post whatever you want here' mantra that Various Nonsense and General Discussion hold. While I am sure a thread in the Dwarf Fortress section could still be derailed into talking about hentai or some other fetish stuff that no one wants to read about I am sure it is easier to spot and moderate than going through all the random stuff in this forum. Plus it's just more likely to come up here because you can post about anything.

In any event I'd rather see people banned than a forum locked. Also, I don't think muting people really teaches them anything or sends any kind of message; so I agree, after the first muting or whatever after that it should probably be a ban, or if it's just constantly posting shit like underage porn then it should be an outright ban.

What is being done currently is just some optimization of the OpenGL code, which Dwarf Fortress already uses. Other than the new versions potentially being unstable, as long as your computer ran it before it shouldn't have a problem with the new versions that are coming out. They also have some new display features like a resizable window, zoom in/out function, etc.
