I agree with all points.

On ways menus could be handled:

I suggested awhile back in another thread that a lot of the lists, especially the Designation and Site a Building areas could be organized into categories to better calm newbies down when they first start playing. Now with all the extra space to play with when it comes to the menu I think that holds even more true, it'd also look a bit nicer and would be easier to read, at least for me :P

I don't want to potentially resurrect a month old thread, so here's the gist of what I suggested under the spoiler:

I'd like to see the mini-map integrated a bit better, with the expanded window it might be good to move it into the main menu area at the top, though that might look/act weird with a tall skinny map or something.

It might also be worth it to figure out a new "default" size for Dwarf Fortress at some point considering hardly anyone is going to be using the old one anymore now that the constraints have been lifted, and the old window size was pretty crammed with info as it was. More potential room to work with now.

The red is flowers, or it could be the blood of elves, your pick. :P

I'll probably end up making it more apparent that they are flowers by drawing them out a bit more, and putting some flowers and plants closer to the foreground in the closer hills so the eye adjusts to it.

I'm probably going to keep the color scheme similar to what I just showed, mainly because it breaks up the foreground elements and the background a lot better and gives a better sense of depth compared to having everything similar colors.

Interesting.

 Although it messes with the art style we love and know, I could see that looking good. Although the transition between hill colors seems a bit... extreme. Unless there is a mountain somewhere casting a shadow.

Yeah it might be a bit extreme, but I can tweak that as I go. In the end I just merge the various layers together and mess with the levels and color and eyeball it until it looks good. :P

People should start sending you large industrial fans as donations. Then you can live in a wind tunnel.

Confirmed in wine.

It's doing it for me too under XP. Only when the mini-map is tabbed up does it reproduce the afterimages, otherwise it's fine for me. I didn't even notice it because the first thing I do is remove the mini-map from the screen.

30 frames is playable in most games but you can see the slow down from a mile away, especially if it's gone from something like 60+ down to 30

I love it how the wagon just has a bag on it. With dwarves and animals inside with all the supplies.
They just tip the bag over and all the dogs and cats and horses tumble out.
