On a somewhat related note, the Colbert Report just delivered this PSA:

Quote from: Stephen Colbert
Kids, do not use the R word(retard), it is totally gay.

I think that is a relevant comparison and fits in at this point. Thoughts?

He is right.

I'm gay, you can say anything you want is gay if you don't mean it insulting, I like the word fag better anyway. *shrugs*

Honestly, Language is all about contexts.

Illegal loot, in the case of the ebony mines.

I'm expecting them to do it similar to Ultima Online, of course - in an ideal world. You take yer axe, you chop at a tree (and in UO's case, the tree doesn't bother to fall down because if it did the entire world would be deforested in a week), you get a log, and you use your dagger to turn the log into some arrow shafts and then attach feathers which you plucked from some bird that you killed, or use carpentry tools to turn it into a board, etc, then furniture, or a wooden shield, or whatever. Or you take a pickaxe and whack at a mountain for a while to get some ore, which you then smelt into iron, which you then forge into a weapon or a shield, etc, or tinker into some kind of tool. And all of this uses skill checks and requires a certain level of skill to make each item. Or you use your dagger on a tree to get kindling which you use to light a fire (using the camping skill) in order to cook raw meat or fish into something edible, although if your cooking skill sucked, you were liable to burn it instead. (Or keep a herd of sheep in your house to shear them for wool, and sell it for profit)

Seeing as they've cut back on the number of skills in Skyrim, I doubt they're adding a bunch of different crafting and resource-harvesting skills, along with camping, cooking, fishing, tracking, and so on, to make a really in-depth system. So it's probably more along the lines of Gothic II. Kill something, get raw meat, find an already existing cook pot over a fire which never goes out. Use cook pot to cook meat, and never fail. Take iron billets and make them into swords, and never fail, for unlimited profit, but first you have to become someone's apprentice. Etc.

Tree should fall, if the MMO Xsyon can do it so can a single player game.

...You seriously call gays "guns" down there? And "gun ass"? I realise logic don't apply very well to insults and the like, but without emotional attachments that just sounds silly. Bössa is a kids word, for god's sake!  :P

Can't remember how it started, but no one hears "gun" unless it's a historian speaking or he's holding a gun in his hands. Everyone hears gay, without a second of doubt it could be gun. Gun is either pistol, riffel or gevær. Bøsse means gay in Danish. Silly swedes, guess you're having a calm moment? (Rolig = calm, not fun. Speak proper Scandinavian! :b)

In Danish we have the word Bøsse, used to be the ugliest word for gays there was, today it's the common term. Gays in Denmark merely took it to them, rendering the word obsolete. I used to care when people said "Bøsserøv" og "Fag", now I call myself a fag, and put no stock in the word, thus rendering it uncabable of hurting me. I only feel bad if someone really close to me use it negatively.

I guess a happy would be that I just got back into DF today actually X3
I am not allowing myself to play until I'm done cleaning and cooking, but I am soo looking forward to starting a new game ^^'

1374
It isn't that violent, and I joined pretty much when I started to loose interest in df.

Honestly seems weird to me to populate a forum for something you don't care about anylonger, but with the size of the forum theres more than enough space for everybody so eh ^^

I only came on here because I was bored, Can count my regular friends on one finger anyway and had found this new cool game that had tons of stuff I loved and a forum that looked like I could live with it. Still not a huge forum fan, but bay12 is a nice place for me.

Edit:

Not when I joined... Remember, I would do pacifist forts... So pretty much there was no blood.

If I try this, stuff dies anyway O_O Usually the leader or the doctor in the start.

General Discussion / Re: Things that made you sad today thread.

Possibly just depression.

There's a certain kind of mathematics I love, but there's only one man who produces it.  For now, at least, the rest of it makes me feel like I'm walking on glass.  It's ugly, it's impure, it's written with tenderness but without vision.  My grades this semester aren't so great--partially due to this issue, partially due to a terrible schedule (I've officially discovered that I'm nocturnal), partially because I know this isn't what I want to go into.

Everyone wants me to go into their department.  I've had three French teachers/professors practically beg.  My English teacher in high school, and a professor here.  My rhetoric professor, who of her own volition promised to open doors for me.  A great mathematician gave me a tour of the library... I became a legend in high school for performance in a particularly difficult history class, and my teachers said "Oh, Vector?  Don't compare herself to her" to their students.  Honorable mention in a computational linguistics competition, having never studied any whatsoever.  So many teachers telling me to please, write books, write fiction, give us something.  So many students saying "Teach a class for us," even in subjects that I've never studied and only provided offhand comments about.  When I interviewed for Harvard and discussed the Japanese club I ran in high school, the interviewer, shocked, said that it sounded like a lecture series for a college course.  I've solved interview questions for computer science in a third of the time it was supposed to take a PhD graduate in the subject--and I've only taken the most basic course, not even recommended for people majoring in the field.

What on earth am I supposed to do?

Part of me says: "Well, stay the course and keep on with the mathematics."  The other part of me says "I can do all of these other things, and with their forces concatenated, I could create something larger than what I would ever produce there--an edifice to withstand time."

But I'm not so sure about that.

Hnnngggghhh guess theres as much suffering over on the wonderchild side of the fence. I can't even get up in the morning to go to school and if I do meet up(That'd be a miracle) I have trouble concentrating.

It seems that increased background radiation from the Fukishima nuclear power plant meltdowns has given me the power of internet-invisibility! Now, do I use this ability to torment people with invisible 2048x2048 meme images or to hack an evil government's website?

How does that in any way fit in here?

BUAHAHAHA!!!

Anyways, you guys seriously need to let this whole ego-battle over M&B and Severance go.

Ego battles? It's mostly about what we'd prefer in ES:V when it comes to combat, related games a mentioned.

I'm currently working on a PIE-ish protolang. And my conworld is coming together.

Made to sound/feel as PIE or to fill the same space?
