Masterwork DF / Re: What's happening in your Fort.

The village Botibruk, ''Tiledash'', closes its second year with a (yet another) not-really-useful artifact.

When my blacksmith got into a fey mood and grabbed one (of two!) orichalcum bar (& some leather & stuff) I got hopeful, it would be REALLY good to get a good weaponsmith (or armor) just as I start to get my military into gear (heh.. gear).

What did I get? A 103200 U-bucks worth of... dice: Zakgol, ''Mintspiteful'', a orichalcum dice. Guess Armok lost his previous one. And I got a Grand master metalcrafter...

So... forth artifact so far. Goes into dining room wall for useless glory. It is sad that the most useful artifact so far is a DOOR (a wooden door I used to calm my manager/bookkeeper.) At least magma is free... (volcano embark)

P.S. My whole world (Remote tolaria gen, modded with end at year 200) has 1 dwarf civ and that civ has no plump helmets.  Now it has all the other 1st cave plants, just not this one. After embark I used reveal & prospect, it showed that there ARE plump helmet bushes underground. Odd.

As my dwarves begun to dig out the initial storage I used 'overseer magic' (reveal + prospect from DFHack) and, sadly discovered that map has next to no coal and a magma pipe 32 Z-levels down. The access to it was top-most priority, as without any coal or trees (tree-less badland) any form of metalsmithing would be a distant dream otherwise.

Cracking into cavern next to pipe was smooth, but as the last holes were filled by my 7 conscripted masons, I got one interruption message - the last piece was unfinished and three hostile leapers got in. I panicked and drafted all 7 into military. Suffice to say, after several months of playing drums on the poor beasts' skulls they were all tired and thirsty. As all 3 of the hostiles were still alive and showed no sign of dying soon, I had to disband the entire squad and get my best miner to go to surface and grab her pick. Why I didn't do so sooner?
Cos a F*ckin 'blinding sand cloud' was parked on top of it the whole time! Anyway... As soon as she got her pick, ate and got drunk (ARGH!), she walked back to the battle 25 Z-levels below and insta-killed all three.

<sarcasm>Great start so far!</sarcasm>

P.S. The spring of 1st year isn't even over yet... *sight*

P.P.S. For added bonus: my dorfs went from 0 fighter skill to 1x3, 3x5, 1x6 and 2x7 dorfs x skill... Guess that field exercise was good after all. (I even have 4 ecstatic guys after all this)

Well folks are starting to get up from the sleep.
Odd thing is - I haven't had any unusual stuff happen.

Although... One of the latest batch of migrants has (MW edition game) a "Sick Dwarf" caste...

Is this going to be a problem?

I have plenty of things to kill her off, but she has like all 29 other migrants as family/bff and is quick to make new ones...

The city of Endokstagshil [Atticfin] has just received a whooping 30 dorf immigrant wave.
About a week after the first migrants enter the city proper my dorfs are struck asleep by a curse or something.
Right now I have 129 of 173 inhabitants (children included) playing sleeping princesses, and I am kinda scared what will happen/is happening. I understand that this is some curse, but how do I actually find the source?...

I send my militia commander to kill a horse.
She has killed 5 enemies so far, including a kobold thief.

She did not take that kick to the head so good...  :o

oh well...

Hey Urist McUseless you have been promoted to militia commander. Congratulations!

(note - my fort is a reclaim and has a military of 1. That alone is a facepalm on own right.)

1st. artifact weapon in the fort.

From a possessed dorf... >:(

I am only now starting to assemble my military so a legendary weaponsmith would have been... well legendary.

PS.

Now I know why there are limits to population and site number.

132 years old world, 2798 sites, 96920 historical figures, of whom 82601 are alive...

Every female dragon/hydra/you-name-it-megabeast has several children. This place is stuck in Myth for good.

I have only touched the events of this short-but-awesome history...

2 things stood out already:

A human town founded at year 1. EVERY ruler there meets a bad end. 1st got killed and eaten by hydra, 2nd turned were-lizard, 3rd also dead within 3 years. I suppose they have hard time finding nobles to rule them  :-\

1 peculiar dragon became enemy of every dwarf civilization. (how - No idea...) This one dragon had killlist of 50-or-so dwarfs. all of them in groups of 4 once a year... All in his lair.  ???
"Hey lets grab some axes and go try to kill that dragon!"
One lucky dorf, last of his team I presume, got the killing hit. Became general back home.. (should be king imo)

I can't even begin to think what might happen in a history 10k years old.

Now to hunt some beasties!

genned a high-savagery  high-beast-count world to kill play adventurers.

1st. run:

killed by 1st ambush. the backup to be exact...

2nd. run:

Goblin ambush cleared, mortally wounded thou.  :-\
sleeping to heal.. woken up by a pack of (hungry) wolves...
killed all but 1, the last one made me dodge into a river and consequently drown...

Now for the 3rd run!

Had CRAZY spam of this message soon after embarking on a cave.

could be linked with the bug that some cavern creatures are "Visible" to you dwarfs before actually getting down there...

f.e. I had a "deceased" Trologyte somewhere in the unexplored parts of the cavern.

Got my 1st siege. Was a slaughter of my military...  :(

As the gobbos left and my dwarfs begin to gather the dead...

A Giant comes into map... :o "That's it. This fort's done."

The giant goes for the nearest thing it can find - an Alpaca.
The thing is - I embarked at a VERY mountainous region.. After chasing the poor thing up several z-levels giant scores a hit. the alpaca goes nuts ant retaliates. The giant jumps away... and down 5 z-levels... If not for the current tantrum spiral fort would be good.

note: do NOT leave pets outside during siege...

My latest Embark.

Embarked to cave.
Cave was empty.
Got into caverns.
Started a base down there.
*while my 1 axedorf is busy drinking*
UristMcMason Cancels Drink - interrupted by Giant cave spider.
 :o
...

My mason was lover to my axedorf... So... my miner was the fist to fall to tantrum. While making the coffin for the mason!!
*Soon*
My axedorf calms down... as the last dorf still alive.
sent her against everything caver layers 1&2 had to offer.
In the end she had 34 kills (counting 5 dorfs)
What took her down?

Thirst

/facedesk

Why?
Because If that GCS hadn't killed my mason i would have an awesome cave-fort...
oh well...

"Did you know that 9 out of every 10 embarkments end in complete disasters?"

Dear UristMcStupidhunter

I know, I know...
After arriving at our glorious fortress You wanted to prove yourself.
...
Was going after a Giant cave spider the only way to do it? :o I would not be so unhappy had you only managed to kill yourself BUT.

One (1) of my military and my Chief Medical Dwarf (Oh Noes!) got killed by that very spider.
It even got a name - Sheriklisid - for about a day, before the rest of my military got there...

Busy designating tombs.
The Overseer.

One Fox... ONE!!!!

my hunter is good but that f*king fox chews down copper arrows faster than my smith can make them.. :'(

i mean 50 bolts to kill one fox - that poor thing is refusing to die ...

Broken spine,  all legs, tail, can barely breathe... and my hunter just run off to reload..  :-\ seriously how can something with a broken spine even move....

Update - the fox is dead... after walking like 20 tiles with broken spine... Now just to get that corpse butchered before it rots away...
