Who the hell decided that giving people authority over stuff they understand nothing about was a good idea?

That's democracy for you.

Oh, you were referring to the previous post, weren't you?

he has a theory that the earth was once ruled by penguins, before being beaten back by polar bears. the ice age ended, and the polar bears retreated to the arctic, then humans took over from there.
the penguins are biding their time.

their first emergence appears to have been on these forums.

That explains the penguin army at the Bay 12 Member map...

Not hell, I'm just trying to get access to all the adamantine about 10 levels above the Pit House.

I wouldn't send people into hell... yet. Demons, man!

Dastotamud Overseer's log
12th of Felsite, 110

One of the children has been taken by a fey mood, and has claimed a craftsdwarf's workshop.

14th of Felsite, 110

There has been a mining accident at the lower levels. One of the miners channeled themselves onto a small platform, and when another miner came to remove the platform (earlier designation), the results did not look good.

While the miner who removed the platform is merely stunned, both the trapped miner and her baby need hospital care.

15th of Felsite, 110

The fey child has begun a mysterious construction. Three pieces of lignite have been reserved for it.

16th of Felsite, 110

The last of the goblins has left the area.

17th of Felsite, 110

The elves have arrived. I assume we will have to remain on guard about goblin ambushes.

19th of Felsite, 110

The fey kid has finished his work: a lignite mug.

Well, another month has passed. At least something happened for a change.

The wounded dwarven baby, by the way, has crawled up the stairs to a certain level, but stopped there. Will follow the situation.

Sorry I couldn't update again, I've got a math test on Monday and I've had to study for it.

The only thing of interest to happen so far this month is that the golbins are finally taking steps closer to the stairs, thus walking into our traps. No dead goblins or mortal wounds yet though: a bruised cheek and a broken rib.

1st of Felsite

The only other thing of interest to happen was when another goblin stepped into the same trap and fractured a leg. She's currently leaving the area, by the looks of things.

I do have a lot of things designated, but nobody seems willing to do them... The fort is kinda standing still.

Oliolli chewed the piece of cat meat he had picked up from the stockpiles as he walked towards the forest. He knew it was dark, and that the bogeymen would be out, but that was one of the reasons he was out here: no one else would be. Well, very few others anyway, he thought as he noticed Roead chasing one of the cakcling beasts and wielding a flaming pitchfork in the distance. As he reached the treeline, he sat down and faced the fortress. It felt good to put some distance between him and anything friendly. Kept the senses sharp, with nothing but bogeymen and the spies nearby. Shortly ater he finished the piece of meat, he heard a familiar cackling, stood up and drew his sword.

Sorry about no update today, kinda busy with school stuff. Tomorrow.

Squirreloid? What are you doing here?

Meh, never really liked lingonberries.

Elk is really tasty though.

And bear, so long as you hunt it and wrestle it to death yourself :P

Interesting fact about Finland: EVERYONE has to learn to speak Swedish,

Wasn't that law changed like just last year?

I'm not sure, I think in Åland they still don't need to learn Finnish.

hm... is there a sami language?

Not in my school, no. It is an official language in Finland, though.

By the way, I checked through Legends. Here are the stories of previous Oliollis:

Oliolli (reclaim edition): Miner -> Militia, Iron Flail'd
Oliolli IV (My first reclaim): Militia Commander, FB'd
Oliolli III: Craftsdwarf, Killed "Gamerlord" the dwarf, survived until first abandon by Aussie
Oliolli II: Carpenter, died of thirst, came back as howling spirit, put to rest in 101
Oliolli: First volunteer, Death by Troll

Dastotamud Overseer's log
1st of Granite, 110

So there I was, doing nothing in particular, when suddenly NCommander walks in and tells me that my name is now Oliolli VI and that I'm in command of the fortress now.

Isn't that marvelous.

So first up is figuring out what's going on around here, and what I'm supposed to be doing. I asked around and according to Urist McRunaka my first task is to retrieve some "crundle leather book", lost in the endless expanse of the quarry level.

While I was asking around, however, I was also informed that Hell is mostly drained of magma by now. Well, largely, not mostly. There are still places where magma lingers, and if nothing is done those areas will never drain. Magma lakes, if you will.

The drowning trap seems functional enough, and while it has a tendency to flood everything outside, it's not that bad. I think.

(getting 10 FPS with all this water)

Also, as I'm looking through the schematics to the drowntrap, I can't seem to figure out which lever does what. It is... slightly irritating, as there are currently two goblins inside the trap.

Thus, I had a lever pulled at random. We now have three goblins in the drown trap.

Thus, I had ANOTHER lever pulled at random. The trap is no longer in FTW mode, I think.

Thus, I had a THIRD lever pulled at random. Next thing I know, the trap is full of water. Thakn you, Erica.

Unfortunately, a goblin managed to open the door to the trap before the floodgates to the cistern could be closed. Even though it was only a matter of moments, a lot of water was spilled. On the bright side, three goblins were killed.

...bloody hell, I've reigned for a week and I've already flooded the countryside once...

Looking through some other projects in the fort, I'm conflicted on if I should go through with one that would result in us getting access to some adamantine wafers and weapons. The downside is that not doing so might ease the reclamation of the Pit House.

In other news, Erica has apparently been demanding sterling silver items. Constantly. I've decided to have a sterling silver hive built. I will later have it placed in her room.

Seems that a previous overseer had been annoyed by such demands as well: there is a cavy boar corpse rotting in her quarters, as well as two ghosts haunting it. Getting rid of them is low on my priority list.

I also noticed that I have no idea how the drown trap should be emptied correctly, without flooding the countryside again.

15th of Granite, 110

It was recently brought to my attention that there is a squad of goblins waiting outside the doors. One of the weapon traps is jammed and neither cage trap is loaded. On the bright side, they can't enter.

20th of Granite, 110

As I finally finish the sterling silver hive, I get a note. Erica has mandated the construction of sterling silver items. I believe that, with time, I will learn to dislike her.

1st of Slate, 110

It has only been a month... We shall see how long I last. This place is a MESS.

(Sorry about the lack of pictures, I'll try to remedy that if you want)

Oliolli whirled the sword around as he walked the corridors, or what little had been excavated. While he did want to see the ruins again, he didn't want to disturb Eric with something like that. It could wait, and what he had seen probably wouldn't come back. He moved as close to the entrance to the ruins as the rubble allowed him to. As he stopped and set down his hammer, he kept whirling the sword, and was spooked by the feeling that a man wearing a fedora and a leather jacket and carrying a bullwhip would soon shoot him. He quickly turned to look down the path he had come, but it was empty. Taking a deep breath, he stopped playing with the sword, grabbed his hammer and started making his way to where the food stockpiles would be.
