I've got the save and will be running my year soon.
Claimed Zulban, actually because she's the engraver which is a position I like, but then saw she's one of the starting 7, She's short, fat, and surly as ever. I'll have a post explaining why she's changed her name and talking about how things are going with her at the helm shortly.
1st Granite 103
I came here as Zulban, intending to train animals, however there are not many animals to train and I have spent my time smoothing and engraving the walls instead. I will now change my name, to Babylon, and take my rightful place as leader of this fortress. Dakost Sakrithkol is technically our mayor, but he is just a figurehead and a few words in his ear should get the right things done. I am going to engrave his office and bedroom in the hopes that will make him more pliable.
My first priorities will be to find the magma, so that we can set up proper smelters, forges, glass furnaces, and kilns, and to capture some animals to tame. There are wild giant sparrows which would make excellent war animals. To accomplish that I have designated a long narrow tunnel to be dug which will be filled with traps, hopefully the sparrows can be herded into it.
I also found, upon examining the surface, that there are the corpses of a few elves in our refuse stockpile. I am not sure what befell the fair folk, but I hope that they were not murdered by any of our number. They can make dangerous enemies and few of their goods are worth taking in such a violent manner.
23rd Slate
Several migrants arrive. The trap corridor is dug and several traps are in place, nothing caught yet. Exploratory tunnels have been dug looking for magma, but so far just warm stone found, we keep moving upward to find the top of the sea. A couple of children have been born. I can't say I care enough to remember their names. The mayor is still nto satisfied with his office and dining room, I'll have to figure out something pretty to put in there.
Look what the miners finally found!

Yes that is the magma sea, with some adamantine in there too. I'm not planning on digging that stuff out though, this area seems pretty peaceful and I've heard nasty stories about what hides in the blue metal.
Meanwhile, another baby has been born.
7th Felsite
Well this is exciting. A child named Kadol Sigununal has been taken by a fey mood. I am curious to see what the child progidy produces. His parents are a brewer and a cook and he has an older sister who also lives in the fortress. He is currently only 4, which makes his inspiration more impressive.
Kadol has piled up heaps of bones. Giant Sparrows and Giant Magpies. Apparently he's going to be a bonecarver. I can't wait to see what morbid creation he has.
16th Felsite
The Elves have arrived, it doesn't look like we have much to trade, but I'll sell them used clothes and see what they have to offer.
And Kadol's creation is complete, a chair, called SadCinder, with spikes and a picture of a kobold bulb

1st Hematite
It's summer, and trading is concluded with the elves. They sold us a ton of wood, some fruits and berries, a giant mosquito, and some cloth, we sold them a ton of mugs
26th Galena
I discovered our child progidy, along with many other children, running around naked. I have set the clothiers workshop on repeat to make shirts, trousers and socks. Hopefully that will help somewhat. The humans have arrived to trade, I realized I don't have much to give them, so I'm selling them some old beat up clothes. Stukos Sigunzimesh, a fishery worker, upon being sent to remove the stairs down into the magma trench decided to remove them from the bottom. I'd say that he will be missed, but I don't think it is true.
5 Timber
A stonecrafter, one Ilral Tiristvunon, had been taken by a strange mood. We failed to produce metal bars quickly enough for him and he went berserk. He murdered the baby Id Godenokang, and was then killed by Id's mother Fath Aginizzish. Althoguh the military was dispatched they failed to arrive in time.
Udir Sibrekkeskal (a child) has been posessed and produced a statue, made of bone of Stodir Waveroads, the king of our civilization. I was worried he might have died, but the trade liason didn't say so. I can only pray for his health.
ok, It's almost spring and life has gotten really busy, so here is the save.
