I had a dream last night...first person DF and i had a DFhack exe that let me turn all civs hostile to me. I wish it were true.
While not first person perspective, DFhack can let you take control of one of your soldiers during a siege. Turning all civs hostile to you doesn't even need hacks, just raw modding. In fact, just grab a mod that has already done all that for you, chiefly the Fortress Defence mod.

OP, read the latest DF Talk transcript.

I mean just run it after your fort is established with trading etc to convert everything to hostile/at war with. I don't want to START at war with everyone. That would be brutal. I also meant not to me specifically, just my fort.

If you get multiple vampires in your fort.... might they kill each other?

Or they kill eachother and steal their power because "THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE"
We turn all our dwarves, and make a giant loyalty cascade! Give the last one danger room and full candy. Equip with largest sword you can find.

I prefer chain glaives.

"HJOLDA!"

Im letting the game tick over with my 20 legendary melee dwarfs and 10 legendary marksdorfs along with a truly murderous kill corridor just to see how long the game takes to kill me off, i have the permantent siege tag for some reason so i cant actively piss off other civs to send sieges too. I had a dream last night...first person DF and i had a DFhack exe that let me turn all civs hostile to me. I wish it were true.

I understand where the resistance to diggers is coming from: you work hard to make a cool-looking place, and then something comes and ruins the way it looks because it affects the very landscape.

But this is Dwarf Fortress, and the community metagames and theorycrafts constantly to find ways to overcome challenges in Dwarf Fortress. Something as basic as a Cistern is something that people had to invent outside the game, but I'd venture to say a LOT of people make cisterns on freezing/scorching maps. Danger Rooms were developed by some clever people and the knowledge was spread everywhere, circumventing the perceived slow speed at training fighters.

When diggers are implemented, the first thing I expect is for people to build a big rectangular tunnel encompassing the entire level of your fortress. This way, they always break into the surrounding tunnel and get exposed (for your military to rush over and kill, or to fall onto weapon traps) before they dig through the next layer to get to the actual meat of your fortress.

These tunnels can definitely look aesthetically pleasing so long as they're symmetric and complimentary colors and what have you not.

Alternatively, people will build structures in underground caverns, in such a way that most of the fort is unreachable due to empty air between the cavernous walls and fort.

And then the Dholes come...

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: ...how valuable does food get?
« on: November 03, 2011, 10:38:59 am »
Yeah once you get slightly more exotic meats, big cats, forgotten beasts (I butcher sentients so....demon flesh) and currently im breeding giant cave crocs en masse and they provide expensive ass meat and bones. Also look at the stack size of that meal. It's fecking huge. No wonder it's so valuable. When you get a stack of 5 or 6 forgotten beast giblet ragout valuing in at 20k you should be amazed (as FBeasties drop a great deal of edible products)

On the coolest artifact thread you can see a few of the creations my dorfs have made from FB/demon hide and bone. Also because i have over 4000 pieces of bone im churning out mastwork bone armour. Gauntlets, boots, masked helms. Im not sure why this is relevent...long story short i'm making things just so i can spam decorate with bone because i keep getting "Nothing improvable exists any more" in a fort thats over 12 years old with 40k of prepped meals and an equal amount of drinks. Also the siege tag has bugged permanently on and sieges are being lazy and not throwing themselves at my defences. All very boring really.

I believe cheese can produce high value goods too if it's an expensive cheese..

So you are wasting candy on (armor|weapon)smiths with skill below legendary?

I would like to assume anyone with half a brain used pointless iron and copper to train legendaries.

200 dorfs smoothing and engraving your fort and your mine complex in a vast wave is a glorious sight. After that i let them loaf around for instant haul swarms or drop tower them into a mess then bury them in that lovely every-tile-is-a-masterpiece-engraved cavern they made for me and seal the place

Am I the only person who doesn't begin a military until you have sets of candy armor prepared? I just skip steel and iron and dig deep; If I use steel I make it after I have a 60+ legendary army and just think that those wearing steel are of a higher status. The best fighters (500+ kills) get to wear just iron armor. It makes sense somehow. And while I'm on topic, do you bother to use coal forges? I don't even start metal making until I hit *cough* Necro, if you read this, do your thing. *cough*

I tend to get SRS BZNS when i find candy too, military prior to that is mostly marksdorfs.

Do not say the name of The Unspeakable One out loud lest you bring his wrath down on us all. I would have to break out the good weapons D:
