Agreed. I would like to push for it to stay gone, though.
I'm sorry if it's upsetting to you, Akroma, but it's a dead forum that has no purpose to exist at this point, and your calls for moderation don't really make much sense when we have other forums less likely to devolve into nonsense that otherwise serve the exact same purpose. If you want to screw around, start something in forum games.

We're usually pretty welcoming to newbies, but you might want to work on spelling and grammar and read some of the DevLog and such if you want to be taken seriously. Toady thus far seems to be very much against charging for anything. If you want to contribute, you can donate, but don't expect it to get you the next release any faster.

Left shift wouldn't be too bad, actually... you'd just have to get used to only using the right shift key for shift, which is how I usually type.

Capslock, despite being useless, is a bit too high to be comfortable to hit constantly like that.

Let's see... Would dropping a single unit of magma onto a unit of wood set it on fire properly? The magma would probably fall onto the bridge as well and be flung along with it...

Wait, better idea: Magmapult.

Would that even work?

Or you could make dwarves fire resistant and find a way to have them shoot flaming ballista arrows... Not sure how well that would work.

It's less of an issue of being able to ignore it; more that it's like a retarded sibling that you have to hide away when company is over to avoid embarrassment.
It's been leaving a bit of a taint on the whole forum lately, and I can imagine people have been scared away by it.

Anyway, as I and other people have said, there's room for much of the VN stuff in forum games. The map and much of the political stuff would fit in there perfectly, I think.
The reason I suggest IRC for true nonsense is because that can't really be policed due to its fleeting nature, and it's better suited to the "chatting" that's been going on VN.

EDIT: Gah. Comma splice.

I'm glad it is settled, though I feel a little guilty because I, like Kagus, was calling for some action to be taken against VN.

Why don't you start up your "politics" stuff again in forum games? It belongs in there a good deal better than anywhere else, now that VN is gone.

And I kind of hope that VN stays gone. It doesn't really belong, now that we have General Discussion. It's a relic of the past.

So, ChaoticJosh, any progress in fixing it? If you can carefully pry up the key, then take a picture of it's place on the keyboard and the underside of the key, we might be able to better help you put it back in place.

Power's fixed, now. The main breaker had literally exploded and was sending sparks everywhere. I'm amazed it actually managed to get any power to the house at all, actually.

Right now I'm just waiting for my paypal donation to clear so I can get this thing hosted up on a decent server.

Also, if I could get someone to help me debug my digging code, for some reason it's refusing to call anything related to the diggers mapping in heart_beat(). I really have no idea why, and it's not actually erroring, or anything, it's just skipping over any line related to it. This is perplexing. I have a feeling it's related to my door code, but I can't figure out how.

I see this as being one of those places where different civilizations would have slightly different gameplay. One dwarven culture might believe that the bodies of the deceased should be placed in stone coffins and sealed underground; another might believe that this will trap them forever, not allowing them to experience the afterlife, so instead they might throw their bodies into the magma pipe/chasm. Their loved ones would then get positive/negative thoughts depending on whether your actions and their beliefs matched up or not.
This could also encompass whether or not a dead dwarf without a corpse will take up a coffin.

Sounds to me like the little metal clip which stabilizes the button and keeps it from "rocking," as you describe, was knocked out of place. Depending on the exact model of keyboard, they can be a little tough to put back in place, but it's definitely possible.

If you're really unlucky, some of the plastic might have broken, though, and in that case you're kind of screwed.

I'd actually like to see some light-hearted discussion creep into the rest of the Finally... section, but I know what you mean. If we get rid of VN, the insanity is liable to spread elsewhere. However, you have to admit that the concept behind Various Nonsense as a "leftover" board and the use of the term, "nonsense" does kind of contribute to the issue.

Perhaps I'm getting too worked up over this. I'd just like to see the forums cleaned up a bit, is all. I'm fully in support of the remove of the Slaves to Armok: God of Blood forum, while I'm at it.
