And new characters will start with a basic speeder.
HOLY SHIT THANK YOU SO MUCH

WHAT! I just started playing yesterday and I don't get one :-[ I guess I'll have to pick one up cheap at the Bazzar :P

Also, what are these themeparks they've added?

Was just able to play a bit today. Most of the time was spent figuring out the controls (oh god the controls...) and remapping them. Took me a while to figure out how to even open up the options ingame ::)

Seems interesting so far just from watching other players and looking at the map and I tried fighting a bobcat and got completely pwned but I did manage to kill something, forgot what it was called though.

I'll try to play a lot more tomorrow.

Even slicing through someone's throat isn't instantaneously deadly or instantly incapacitating (They have a few seconds)

I just hope we'll be able to do proper silent kills. Like being able to put your hand over someone's mouth and slitting their throat instead of slitting someone's throat and during their last moments of life alerting the whole camp to your presence >:(

There's a difference between a bullet going in you and a big ass sword.

Same thing really. Dying is dying.

Well swords would have more contact area. But with bullets it also would depend on if they went completely through the body or stopped inside and maybe broke apart causing more damage. If it goes completely through (in one piece) I could see them keep on fighting or moving.

maybe when bandits become more like criminals/low lifes who just want your money and stuff and not bloodthirsty madmen with the skills and experience of ex-army who kill everyone in sight for "fun?"

There was actually a fair mix.  A lot of local banditry did spring up from retired military who lacked other job skills and turned to what they were good at - hurting people - to make money.  Look at the ronin tradition in Japan - their robbery and protection rackets in vulnerable areas are supposedly the origin of its largest organized crime families.

Well it would really depend on the state of the world with the makeup of bandits varying depending on whats going on. But bandits still shouldn't kill you all the time, the best parasites don't kill their host they keep them alive so they can continue to feed on them later. If bandits killed everyone they met either they would've been wiped out or everyone else would be dead :P

Ok I managed to get a copy of the game and now I'm downloading the emu client.

Anyone got any tips for first timers? What are some good skills to learn in the beginning?

I'm thinking of making a combat character but building things in the artisan profession might be cool.

There's a difference between a bullet going in you and a big ass sword. And I would say that most people would not be able to run away with a gunshot wound to the chest.

I also realized something, in the game you can never stab completely through a person it just gets stuck in them. This is especially noticeable when stabbing someone's limbs with a spear and having it stop inside instead of going through like it should be able to do easily. Having something come out the other side would add another wound on the opposite side and has the ability to damage more body parts like the spine if you would pierce through the front of the torso.

This will happen when companions get more fleshed out and maybe when bandits become more like criminals/low lifes who just want your money and stuff and not bloodthirsty madmen with the skills and experience of ex-army who kill everyone in sight for "fun?"

Isn't being transgendered a mental/physical disorder?

Depends on your definition of a disorder.  I think the current working definition among psychologists is "anything that makes the patient's life significantly more difficult" in which case the answer is that being trans and not having made the switch is a disorder, but once a trans person has become comfortable with their body/gender it would cease to be a disorder because they can live comfortably with no unusual assistance.
So that makes a sex change operation a medical procedure to correct a disorder?

Anyway, I'm still not 100% sure what is being argued.

Transgenders suffer from Gender Dysphoria, which is a mental disorder which can have biological causes so it's classification is argued by people.

This thread reminded me of this which happened a while ago. Which means that it's not recognized as choice by the courts but a disorder, still a waste of tax payers dollars though.

A kingdom game mode is planned but it will probably be a long time before it is actually implemented.

It is supposed to happen once the Monarch moves to your fort but I'm sure there will be many different ways to become ruler.

The closest thing we will see is when you can give orders to others and form groups (guilds, religions/cults, war parties, etc.)

Pain is way too high for broken bones right now. Breaking your fingers should not cause you to pass out unless you're a pansy

Your fingers actually have a lot of nerves in them, more than a knee. I've never broken a finger before so I don't know if you would pass out of not but I think that breaking your fingers would hurt more than dislocating your knee.

Anyway I think that it sounds good however before the happens the medical system may need to be enhanced. Right now the hospital doesn't seem to operate fast enough and if the chief medical doctor is on break he doesn't care if there is a critical patient.
Eh, I've broken a finger before, and a toe

Hurts like a bastard (you'd be surprised how little you want to walk with a broken toe) but overall not that bad unless you try to use it

As long as you splint it quickly, finger and toe bones heal pretty quickly (a few days, maybe?) and the pain isn't too bad.

Bone breaks in general are more of a throbbing pain than the sort of sharp, shocking pain that would drive you into unconsciousness.

Yeah, it should be painful but not the kind that causes unconsciousness. It's very frustrating to have your tough, hardened, experienced warriors pass out because of a broken finger -_- and it's 100xs worse in adventure mode when it's you that does the passing out :P

I had wanted to play the original.  Might join eventually.

...that one update.

What update would that be, by the way?

That would be the Combat Upgrade and later the New Game Enhancement. It drove away a lot of players by dumbing down the game and eventually led to it's death. I'm just going off of what it says on Wikipedia

Quote
The game has gone through two major upgrades: the "Combat Upgrade" (CU) and later the "New Game Enhancement" (NGE), its final form. Gameplay mechanics for combat and armor/weapon systems received a major update in April 2005 when SOE released the Combat Upgrade that replaced a system that allowed players with combat professions to stack defensive abilities from various skill sets, while also fixing an exploit that allowed players to have their character attack freshly spawning non-player characters (NPC) and creatures while away from their computers in order to gain combat skill experience. The New Game Enhancements were implemented in November 2005. Major changes included the reduction and simplification of professions, simplification of gameplay mechanics, and Jedi becoming a starting profession.

Other castes would have to have abysmal learning rates in those skills since custom moods are impossible I think.
