Then you know most of the large-screen. Rarely do I see any symbols other then those.

Here is a image :)

^ if red is a Volcano. If a Dark Grey, and somewhat Thicker it's a peak.
Anything that has the symbol of a tree in-game and is green is a vanilla forest.
Blue lines are rivers. Blue dots are lakes. Blue squigglies are oceans.
The various ns on the map are hills, doesn't matter the color. Although I guess that affects vegetation and such. I don't really care that much, come to think of it.
The whole huge things of cyan at the bottom are pretty much ice-oceans and tundra.
I'm missing something.

Thanks for the info, I got most of that myself except the hills "n"
There a lot of other symbols...like chests and cabinets and a lot of other stuff.

Guess what im searching for is some sort of map legend or anything like that...

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / World generating and symbols recognition

Well its been annoying me for some time now.... How do I know whats what when I look at the world map?? I think I got some of it...
Like what a volcano looks like also if the area is purple its sinister or haunted, if its blue its serene
But there are so many symbols/sign I dont know what mean.... :(
Im interested in one particular, lava/magma.... If its red my experience is its red sand... If there is some magma on the surface how will I recognize it?

By the way im using Ironhands tileset

Love this tileset been using it for awhile now :)
But perhaps someone could help me with something? When you create a new world and look at the world map, im not sure what all the "signs"/symbols mean... Like how do I recognize magma/lava on the world map? or a goblin tower and so on???
I figured out the volcano, but there are so many signs I have no idea what they represent...

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Mechanics Problem.

Make sure one of your dwarfs have mechanics enabled (its under engineering)
You have a mechanics workshop and stone available
Dont think you can disable it by accident with "orders" or something... Not sure about this one though

Im sorry where are you supposed to
Add the [CIV_CONTROLLABLE] in the human/plains entity section. Take away the tag for dwarves( or check the civ screen) the first race is what you spawn as ??

Is it the raw files or data files or??

You can play with humans?!!!

I didnt realise you could edit the raw files to such an extent......Hmmmm
The idea with building the above ground fort/castle sounds REALLY cool/funny, but but but... What... ehmmm So basically you are playing with "dwarfs" that looks like humans, I mean they only look like humans but behave like dwarves as we know it? Right?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Danger rooms

Ah, I think you used the wrong kind of trap. You need an upright spear trap instead of a weapon trap. A weapon trap is automatically triggered by some critter or enemy stepping on it, an upright spear trap is triggered by pressure plate or lever.

Dammit! But at least the problem should be solved, thx for the help ;)

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Danger rooms
« on: August 24, 2011, 03:23:12 am »
Ive heard so much about theese danger rooms and decided to test it. But I cannot seem to get it working  :(

Ive built a room with about 12 floor tiles I think, build a weapon trap on each floor with 10 training spears each. Now this is as far as ive gotten.....

When I try and link it to a lever or pressure plate, there several different options to link it with. It must be upright spear/spike right? But when I choose this the only thing it finds is some two-handed adamantite sword deep down in some unexplored area.....

Is it a bug or have I done something wrong?

Well my forgotten beast is dead. The question is, did it take out all of the swallow men before it died....

Ah great thx for the info :)
Guess I now know what my militia got in store.... FIRE!

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Forgotten beast (Dont know if its a spoiler)
« on: August 19, 2011, 06:17:59 am »
I was just wondering, are you not supposed to recieve an message and the game pauses when an forgotten beast/uninvited guest arrives?

I noticed a message in the log saying,
the forgotten beast is no longer enraged! followed by
cave swallow man is engulfed in flames! over and over again.

I quickly sealed off my fortress from the caverns, but still its annoying that I havent recieved a message and cannot find the FB in the creature log...
