True, though since it's an over production, and only going to be used once, the distance doesn't really matter.

What? No one knew that cat leather mittens glow in the dark? Really?

Only if you burrow the crafting dwarves in an area containing only the work space and the materials.

I love playing with forts other people have started, because it takes forever before mine get anywhere near usability.

Sounds like an awesome embark, even if it's not going to be useable. Though if you wait, eventually the Caverns will fill and you'll get FPS again. Just don't breach the caverns!

Actually, if the room the FB is dropped into consists only of a 1x1, made of raised bridges, you can drop the thieves directly onto the FB. It'll cushion they're fall, and then they can get on with the stabbing.

Alternately, drop it into a room with walls made of fortifications, and use a few archers.

1)Favorite part? Building stuff. Whether the dwarfs like it or not. Walls, Aqueducts. Helical gryoscopic thingamabobs. (Windmills)

All good stuff.

2)Don't use mods like genesis. I have trouble enough surviving the default world.

3) Precision. All bedrooms much be equal, all workshops must be built in the proscribed dimensions. (3x4 with a stair case leading up and down to storage.)

4) Never, I know what I like and how I like it. Usually I'll bring three copper Picks, one copper axe. Three miners, and one military dwarf. The other three do whatever I demand of them. though one is usually a good broker.

6) I'm not a very good player, so the worst I've done is actually a real unfortunate accident. I built an aqueduct. This rose three z-levels from the sea to one z above the surface of my world, and culminated in a reservoir.

Then I decided to wash away the blood from the Rhesus Macaque's we'd spent the first three years fighting off. Ordered the construction of a second aqueduct, one z-higher than the first, off the reservoir. Pumped water down it, through a grate.

Instant boom in the coffin industry, though no one could do anything about it because the workshops were underwater.

Of course, now I'm busily reworking it so I can pump water around the map to drown those damn goblin bowmen.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Flood Defences
« on: August 08, 2011, 04:58:21 am »
Flood Control Task #1: Find a cavern.  Why? Simple, once you find one, you can drain all the water into the cavern. A cave lake with map edge infinite access is best, but at the end of the day, any cavern will do.

Flood Control Task #2: Dig drains. Sounds stupidly simple, but it's not, because dwarves are pretty stupid. Drain passages have to be dug in such a manner that the dwarf can get back out of them, and then they've got to be grated over. I suggest a double helix spiral, connected to a sewer system and splitter. Connect locations where you suspect you might get flooding, to the sewers by grates, and put doors to the side of the grates. Thus the water will all drain through the grates and any dwarfs in the way, can simply cross the grate and go through the door.

Flood Control Task #3: Once you're below the aquifer, don't try and go back up. It doesn't work.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Can military dwarves on duty pull levers?
« on: August 08, 2011, 04:53:27 am »
Probably should have put that lever IN the burrow. You can temporarily allow access to it to let a dwarf pull the lever.

Silly Battle cat. Should have pumped in magma, and created a second, if temporary Obsidian farm. Would have been much faster to work with, and produced more of the stone needed for the upper wall.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: What to do about these Giant Badgers...
« on: August 04, 2011, 05:57:54 am »
I don't know. I ended up using DF Liquids to hold them behind obsidian walls. Eventually I shall send brave dorfs to smooth the stones and engrave great warnings that the horrid monsters within should never be freed to roam the earth again.

Punch through the Cotton Candy, but not through here.`

Now, now. You can't build rooms fast enough, so you've just got an influx of new masons. I sit and watch the new migrants arrive and turn off everything but hauling and masonry/carpentry. (The latter usually when I'm living the life of an Elf trying to punch through the blasted Aquifer.)

So you make them all masons and watch them swarm the construction of the new apartment complex. Sometimes even the Mayor can be useful, though having his entire room suspended out in space and held by a single support is usually a good idea when he does something... STUPID.

I haven't got any Rose Gold, and if I did, I sure wouldn't make you anything. PULL THE LEEVER!

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Best way to fill a moat?
« on: August 04, 2011, 05:48:46 am »
I use water pumped up from an aquifer, and since I wasn't getting enough fill, also several repeater pumps connected to windmills. BIG Moat. Of course, if you were really insane, you could dig two moats, one dry and one wet and line the strip of land between them with traps. All the way around. :D

Silly DF Player. If the dwarves are running, you didn't close the tunnel behind them. :D

Dorf boxes make even human sieges pieces of cake. 3x3 box, hollow in the middle, with a roof and raising bridge as a door. Your military can pop out of them into the middle of the human siege, and wipe them out without them being able to see you coming.
