DF Gameplay Questions / Re: V I S T A

I got Vista recently too.  It's been giving me lots of trouble in general.  Dwarf Fortress is almost OK, but occasionally I get Inflate Error: -3.  It will do this until I restart the machine.  I think it has to do with taking my computer out of hibernation mode.  So far I haven't been able to reproduce it consistently, so I haven't bothered trying to submit a bug report.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: I can't find my saves on Vista64

I finally found it using the find command in Cygwin.  It was in:

C:\Users\Rocko\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Dwarf Fortress\data\save

This probably explains also why my changes to init.txt didn't seem to ever do anything; there's a copy of that in there too.

I think the moral of the story is to not install and program files in the actual Program Files paths because Vista is a piece of crap.

So if the save I want is "region11," should I search for that?  I updated me index and looked for that--it came up empty.

DF Gameplay Questions / I can't find my saves on Vista64
« on: November 18, 2007, 10:43:00 am »
I want to copy Dwarf Fortress with my saves to another computer I'll be using the next two weeks.  I have been running it off of C:\Program files (x86)\Dwarf Fortress.  Underneath that, there is a data path, but no data\save path.  I copied everything anyways; the other computer doesn't show any saves when I start it up.  I have played the game in various locations on my computer, but I see no save path under any of them when I search.  I enabled hidden file viewing and I still don't see it.  This is driving me nuts.  Where could it be?

This is just one more thing in a growing list of indignations against Vista.  The one preceding this was it refused to let me edit the init files if I had them under the Program Files path.  Unchecking the read-only flag simply had it rechecked immediately afterwards.

I run into it on my Vista box occasionally.  I have found rebooting has resolved it for me.  Yeah, it's a real hoot.

Well Toady seems to have a handle on it but I'll describe what I saw and had done.  The forge existed already.  Once the tile underneath the forge had a certain amount of magma, I was able to build the forge.  I think it was really only 1/7, but I couldn't do anything with the forge until it was at least 4/7.  Unfortunately, the forge wasn't at that point when the possessed dwarf got there.

There was no delay in the dwarf reaching the site.  I saw him walk to the forge, go nuts, and start walking away seamlessly.

DF Bug Reports / 33d: possessed metalsmith claims forge and immediately g

I just had a metalsmith go possessed.  He ran off to a magma forge, and immediately went berserk after claiming it.

The magma under the forge isn't full enough yet to be usable, but it is filling up.  The furnaces just a few square upstream are serviceable.  Still, I imagine this has something to do with it.

I get the impression martinuzz isn't an American, so it's very possible he has been taught a different definition for what a downer and an upper might be.  I think I understand what he means by the effect on mood being somewhat inverse to the chemical definition of what it does.
