DF Gameplay Questions / Re: How far must I dig for iron ore?
« on: April 24, 2011, 03:09:28 am »
My iron ore usually shows up at my gates at around 80 dwarves along with some copper ore. Its strapped to these fleshy green things which can be a problem though...

Crap. I live in California but the good game conventions are still a butt numbing drive.

Nope, its coming soon. It might be possible to mod this in game, its going to be glitchy though. Goblins however LOVE riding deadly animals right into your traps.

I think the war hammer is better, as for the material you want something heavy. Sharp doesent matter, its why the cotton candy war hammers are terrible.

Prepare for some flaming. The same 3 people attack any thread that deals with getting rid of prisoners.

Because of dwarfs near constant exposure to alcohol has made dwarfs explosive. It only takes a tiny bit of magma, or a careless dwarf to close to an open flame to ignite them. Combine this with dwarfs second nature, to run towards there friend when there in pain and you result in a spiral o' doom.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: The King Is Dead

My king arrived, but he had that "no preferences" bug. On the other hand, maybe it's not a bug, but how he survived long enough to become king in the first place.

King by virtue of being the least demanding person around?
By avoiding unfortunate accidents shortly after mandating the creation of 5 raw adamantium mugs.

They never go away, i typically shut my doors and let the sieges handle the fire breathing mooses, powder oozing ticks and the like.

Perhaps they could send a small, wagonless caravan (1 guy, 2 guards or so) that will stop showing up when you kill him once. I personally dont like it because it doesn't result in that humiliating death of the axe lord that killed 50 dogs and a squad of your dwarves after rampaging through your traps but its better than having them live amongst you. If you read the goblins description, it states them as pure evil. Additionally, we have plenty of dwarves.

The Ideal solution is to get them off of the map after stripping them down. Converting them would only really work until you got to around 100+ dwarves then you would go right back to your favorite execution tower.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: O God! Flood!
« on: April 20, 2011, 02:02:36 am »
Your first goal now should to be to set up some walls to temporarily seal the water in. Remember, water can move diagonally. You can drain water off map by smoothing/fortifying a wall that's adjacent to the map edge. Using this and a well placed cave in (It needs to fit exactly in the hole) you can stop the water flow. Before you start it up again remember to put flood gates in and link them to a lever!

Hes not suggesting air be added to the game. But yeah, getting out of those caves is maddening. I cant wait until we can just tunnel out.

No, i disagree with you because you make one bad argument then defend it to the death. Its very different, your simply selling the elves the freshest meat possible! Still kicking! We could have the player dump them off a cliff then sell them to the elves if you prefer?

The basis of this idea is elves eat sentient beings. Dwarfs have plenty of sentient beings that we cant do anything with! This gives a viable way to get rid of all of those annoying trolls. When you disagreed with the ideas you hijacked the thread and turned it into a dwarven ethics argument.

There should be an easier way to dispose of prisoners and save the cages, but I don't believe that this is the best way. Elves don't come across as 'butcher sentient for food' but rather 'eat enemy as sign of disrespect'.

And think of the Goblins people! imagine the faces on those poor goblins as they have flowers put over their heads and are carted off accompanied by song and dances. Save your green skinned friends from the cruel claws of the elves! Apply Magma.

Maybe instead , a rehabilitation center can be opened to convert Goblins to the Dwarven way of thinking!
A pit with magma?

^ Thats how you post about not liking a thread.

Right now the elves dont feel like a "Drag the goblin into the tree and eat it" sort of race, but i think it would fit right in when it was added. Every race should be a mix of gray and not starch black and white.

The humans are human and have all of the flaws associated with us.
Dwarves: Lets face it, at some point in time you made a mace out of a puppy...
The Goblins: The goblins arnt actually all evil, haven't you seen them "Adopting" unattended children?

though you do bring up alot of good points. The primary goal is to have a useful way to get rid of prisoners rather then popping them or watching them rot to syndrome breaths.
