I was thinking of mechanics like the skills, plus some interface elements and the layout of structures as well. I'll have to look into the raws to see where exactly things are defined.

Cool, I'll check it out. Thanks!

I'm kicking around the idea of writing a game that would be based on the Dwarf Fortress style/lore. Are there any official statements or even an official license from the Adams brothers covering the creation of derivative works in the Dwarf Fortress universe? Obviously anybody can make a game about dwarves digging holes in the ground, but DF is my inspiration and explicit callouts to the DF universe would be fun.

For example, Wizards of the Coast manage the Dungeons & Dragons intellectual property, and they have an explicit license called the Open Game License that allows anyone to make certain kinds of derivative works in the Dungeons & Dragons universe:

I'm not looking to make a lot of money, but definitely interested in running ads to offset hosting costs if this were to go anywhere.

Looking does help a bit, but there are at least 200 stacks of equipment here, many with multiple bags (and you can only 'l'ook in one bag at a time).

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / How to sort through treasure?
« on: August 19, 2013, 05:21:56 pm »
Is there an easy way to go through huge piles of treasure? I'm in a dungeon under a town, and there is *one* container made of steel, which makes me really want to search the whole thing. Problem is, there are at least six large rooms completely full of treasure.

The majority are stacks and stacks of copper/iron armor. Is there a way to filter look results to only show items of a certain material or a certain quality?

Sorry if this is a common topic, but I didn't find any good search terms.

Also, I'm looking to get into the fortress saves, rather than the world saves. I'm guessing they're stored in very different formats.

Something like that.

A lot of the visualizers run through DFhack's memory hooks, but it looks like the one you linked to uses the save files instead. I might just go hunt down the author.

I'm thinking about writing a new visualizer utility for DF as a fun little side project. I'm wondering if there are any resources or experts available that can help me figure out how map data is stored. I don't want to hook into the program itself, just process (and maybe even create) save files.
