Same tileset. Ironhand. I just tried changing it, but it didn't seem to make a difference. Doesn't matter now, this fort has fallen. I'm going to do a re-install and gen a new world.

Yeah. I have 9 sawmills in fact. And I am getting acorns. I have acorns/spawns for all tree types. However, I can't seem to plant any of the underground ones. Not glass, crystal, or netherwood. Ironwood and stealoak are just fine. I have massive plots dedicated to those.

It was working fine in the last release. I tried comparing raws between versions but I couldn't come up with an answer. Joyous wild warm tropical 1x1 embark.

What does it take to farm Nether cap? I have the spores from splitting it down into nether leather. Almost 100 seeds. But I can't seem to plant them anywhere. It's not an option for above ground, underground, or even on a farm plot placed in the third cavern. Same with crystal trees.

Using Masterwork 4f. Also, no seeds in bins. No bins allowed in my fort for anything.

So as I understand the applications of this:

I can't use this to make a shortcut straight to hell, since I would need to be able to build walls/stairs up to the SMR from the slade and pinching the SMR with the stairs/walls column up to the sky.

After doing the above, I could have a pit that goes straight the world and drops off into the bottomless erie pits?

I have an immense desire to send things into a falling oblivion where there shall be no release until they die from starvation.

Actually, ya. The local mountainhome set up camp outside my fort for around a year, till I got annoyed enough at them to send someone to kill them.  It was sometime after that I noticed the massive infection....Crap, the dwarve's FUN rubbed off on my orcs.

Question: How do I cure diseases? Tagia orc apocrathary didn't have any options to make anything. I lost the fort to a 3 year epidemic of pneumonia. With no way to cure it, and it being of the rather particular nature that surviving it doesn't confer any lasting immunity to it....it eventually crippled everyone.

I really like diseases....but with no way to fight it, I had to turn it off.

I enjoyed watching these. I might have to try that one day. Can I be dorfed in the next fort? I'm sure my mutilated zombie corpse won't cause too much havoc...

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: My bridge just decimated my fort. :|

Hmmm.  I wonder how tricky the timing would be to slaughter an entire siege group with a tall stack of stairs and a single stone-fall trap.

I was just thinking the exact thing. Or better maybe easier to do: Huge stair case to go down into your fort, at the top is a raising bridge in front of the stair case ent, then right after a pressure play. The bridge will constantly fling bodies into the stair case.

Or make a huge stair case with a water source at the top that you can open up. I wonder if the rushing water would slam people around as well

In an ill fated attempt to make a pretty central waterfall, I instead made a downward shooting water cannon. Yes. Pressurized water will slam dwaves to their death down stairs.

You want that Kea to fight? Because it'll just sit there getting beat up if you leave it chained. I find it quite satisfying to release a herd of wild Rhinos in the corridor of invading goblins.

Whoa. I don't if its worth the risk of letting it off the chain. Not just a kea. A giant kea! They'll steal the silk thong off the duchess without batting a lash.

I think my main objection to this plan would be that eating rotten zombie meat is disgusting and it probably wiggles around in your stomach.

Consider it a natural laxative as zombie meat tries to escape your bowels.

So no, magmafalls don't boost happiness.
They make me giggle. That counts as happiness.

Honestly, I look it as a feature. That way I know I will always have some thread hanging around for the hospital.

Pretty awesome! Now if you can just get underground with your reclaim, the fort will protect itself! ....provided it doesn't also re-animate.

I like axes or swords for dealing with living targets. Which I have depends on if any immigrants arrive with skills in either. I always have 4 spear dwarves for helping out with tough FB's. A squad of xbows for annoying flyers or if their are lashers. A squad of hammer lords for dealing with zombies. As a plus, hammer lords can support the axes/swords against the living. Also, the hammer lords are the Captain of Guard squad. If there's a tantrum happening, I want all offenders dead. Damage to the fortress must be minimized. I can always get more dwarves. If a tantruming dwarf busts the pipes to the obsidian farm...well, that's a lot harder to recover from.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Conical mountains

If I look for specific terrain shapes, what I do is look at the elevation numbers to get an estimate. Then I start an embark that is roughly 16x8 or half the possible embark size, (anything bigger crashes the game for me). Then I will scroll out, and take a gander at the terrain. Pick a place I like. Guess where it is at the embark map. Use DFhack's die command to close df fortress. Restart and try to guess where that really cool looking site was.

Dual mountains and canyons are just too much fun not to go looking for them once in a while.
