Also, do you accept private payments by mail? I dont got a credit card, but i could always exchange some DKK to $ or whatever and mail em or something. I really want to play this for real

I'd accept it if I thought it was safe... you really are not suppose to send $$$ via mail  :-\ I can also accept PayPal, if you have any way of getting that to me.. do you have a friend or parent that could enter in their credit card info for this one purchase?  ???

Working on the capital ships now  8)

Oh thanks great Whales! Now if there just was a portable Cataclysnux so i could keep on playing your wonderful game in school!
A christmas special update would be hillarious, like having the game detect your base and then making a Zombie Claus appear, like a combination of all zombies, dressed in santa suit, carrying a huge heavy bag full of cool loot, also zombie reindeers and turning all fungaloids into grinches!

No stealing from other people?  :smith:

I think it could be too easily abused by high-level characters on low-level characters... for example, a high-level guy could just stand next to / follow a low level player, and just take all of their inventory (just to be a jerk). Yes, a high-level guy can kill a low-level player, but the low-level player will respawn in a different area (giving him a good chance at getting away), and only 1 item is lost. However, I may add it back if there is a good way of balancing it out.

I've got "poison" biomes in (instead of radioactive), working on "special effects" (anti-aliasing, blurring when damaged etc.) and capital ships for the next release.

What about making it player skill based when stealing from players? A sneaky low level player could run up to some hilevel and grab some of his stuff, any of it actually, if the victim is wary enough he would quickly notice the thief and be able to strike back. You would have to think, that flight pack he has in his pack might be worth alot of money, but hell, its activated, as soon as you swipe it he would notice!

Also, do you accept private payments by mail? I dont got a credit card, but i could always exchange some DKK to $ or whatever and mail em or something. I really want to play this for real :P

Hey all,

Hoping to move on to new features, I decided to just fix ALL THE THINGS  ;D

v2pre8
* Multiplayer should be “fully functional” — no known bugs
* The final battle with the Demon King now works in multiplayer
* Grappling hook is now functional in multiplayer games
* Fixed a crash when receiving updates before the game fully loaded
* Fixed the objectives info key to properly detect if you have a Demon Smiter
* Flying characters will now lower their arm correctly after attacking
* Improved performance in object processing (should help with large servers)
* Servers will no longer draw characters very far away (near other players)
* Your faction will no longer change when attacking/killing other players
* You can no longer steal from other players
* You can no longer send useless “follow” requests to other players
* Increases in base statistics are now properly synchronized in multiplayer
* Slightly increased # of leaders in buildings
* Fixed a crash when loading a game for a multiplayer that had no single-player component
* Fixed a collision bug that caused players to get locked together in multiplayer
* Tweaked Demon King respawning code to happen quicker & closer to the ground
* Other minor adjustments to improve network bandwidth usage & performance

I’m sure there are more bugs to be found (let me know when you find them ;) ) Otherwise, it is time to get some fancy new content in 3079 like radioactive biomes and capital ships.

Get it @ http://3079.phr00t.com/

Thanks,
- Phr00t

Redpower is becoming a pretty good alternative to both BC and IC combined.  I recently made a fully automated and self-stocking fried chicken factory.  It was good fun.

I also heard about a computer block.. me is intrigued.

I might have been a bit annoying.. i could always just have stopped playing the game at all, i suck anyway and i am getting bored of just getting raped by zombie after zombie and never anything exciting. I couldnt get all that crap needed to compile the game to work, errors, errors everywhere, and theres a reason why i stopped coding in C anymore, its like trying to teach an OCD how to shuffle cards, trust me, i have tried to.

But now i got that Cataclysnux, so modding will be 1000 times easier.. i guess.. wait i am used to GUI linux and i suck at VI.
My mother is pretty fond of VI, having coded since she was a young girl at tech school, she knows her way around Unix systems quite alot. She could teach me some tricks..

Sorry for being a bugger.

It's all good duder, didn't bother me.  If you want a notepad-like text editor for command line linux, try nano.  It should be installed already.  But yeah, removing the dog isn't too difficult, I wish you luck in doing so!  I may end up removing the starting dog in the near future, and make dogs quest "items" instead... as in "I left my dog behind in my house, can you please go find her for me?"

There is, perhaps, no single piece of programming more arcane and confusing besides the good old punch cards!  This is not user friendly.  This is not "Windows Installation Wizard".  This is going to be a step harder than it needs to be, and you're either going to do it anyways or fail and move along.  What no one needs is for you to fail and then loiter bragging about your fail.

Hey :(  my programming isn't that bad...
Look at the source for nethack and compare ;)  Or for that matter, the GNU coreutils...

Oh god no, oh well i gotta deal with those dogs anyway.
I looked into the source code of stuff, but i suck at other peoples code, good thing that Red's nice at keeping his code clean in Ameripain, else we wouldnt be going anywhere..

Butthurt
It's a Roguelike written for Linux.  You're Bay 12.  You've (hopefully) played DF.  By default, if you've played DF then you've had your fortress ROFLstomped by skeletal whales who don't give a shit and drag their lifeless bones out the the goddam ocean just to ruin your day.  You're gonna complain about some zombies now?  Dwarf up son, grab yourself a hammer and a utility vest, a bottle of booze and a line of coke.

I have to repeat this though because you don't seem to grasp the severity of these words that I'm putting onto your screen.  A Roguelike for Linux.

Im one of those who lingered in Adventure mode for too long and got bored. I cant manage fortress mode, its stressing and not a bit relaxing, especially not when embarking.
I have only tried wilderness embarks and never seen a single undead before, the worst thing that has happended was a bunch of godless monkeys running in and stealing all my pig tail.

And yet i can fly a space ship in Orbiter..

Hmm i kind of want to do Anatomical Griefing: The Game in blender, would be quite easy, seeing that physics and 3d would be done for me already.

But a game i wanted to make was based around a novel universe i constructed, Udo, its basically set on a far out planet that "hunts" intelligent life with wormholes, time goes alot faster on the planet too, the game is set in a scenario where the player has to handle his failing spacecraft and do an emergency landing on an Udo spawn(little planets Udo creates by manipulating gravity) called Leng, known as the last site for Lengs plateu to exist, a weird rocky planet wich has theese puddles of highly active organic compounds everywhere, every morning the game would generate new creatures to haunt you, wich come writhing, flying or simply just crawling out of the pools of horror. It would basically be an First Person evolutionary sandbox. I would make it as dynamic as possible ever.

Have the design doc; im not gonna use it anyway:

Short and Quick description:
You are a private space pilot, your ship is malfunctioning and is caught in a suborbital trajectory,
repair neccesary systems and try to manage to do a proper entry. The planet's terrain is rough and neigh impossible to land on, so no matter what
you will either crash, or crash land. Good news is that it looks awesome and is physics simulated. Try not to get yourself killed.

The creatures:
The planet is spotted with shoggoth pools wich generates creatures when exposed to starlight, theese creatures are procedurally generated, the generator determines:

Organ positions - for each limb generated, place 1 - 4 organs in its organ list/W/E
Movement Behavior - Paramters for joint movement, timing etc. from 0-360
Instincts - Flee when attacked, Strike Back or ignore, only applicable if a mind is placed somewhere
Growth and mobility - Growth

Each creature starts out with a single limb, but its growth parameters makes it grow into something.
The shoggoth pools are very nourishing, but mutates anything not native to them on contact.
Creatures that float in it would either emerge from the pool themselves, get pushed out by others, or just be digested by the pools and despawned.

Types of limbs and their similarities to earthly creatures:

Hull: Torso, Trunk etc. Its just a rigid object
Tendon: Tendon. Bonds the limbs together, can also be used by itself to "weld" objects together
Appendage: Claws, Eyes, Ears, Antennae, Mouth, Leaves and stuff like that.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I can't provide input about how to remove wild dogs, but the starting one is easy enough. I even posted instructions in this thread before. Just open the game.cpp file and comment out (adding //) the lines concerning "Testing the pet doggy"
He's been told this several times now and refuses to do it himself while insisting that Whales change the game for him.

Hmm i kind of want to return to modded MC as even 1.0 gets boring, in the same way that you never reach the end of Nethack.
I used to do BC with a few friends online, we did all kinds of things, but then the community died and i got bored from BC and IC.

Uhh whats cool to have now? I heard Twillight forest was something..
I want mods that adds extra depth to the game, not mods that are just cheat crafting recipes. I love new things to explore and experiment with.
BC and IC are cool together, but arent there better alternatives?

thanks. I found the gift option on BMT so I can do it through them entirely. Thanks and good luck!

Thanks again  :)

it wasn't until my second try that I figured out how to deactivate my grav pack without going to the menu.

Glad you found it fun :) Make sure you guys hit 'F1' to go over the key controls.

I wish this game for christmas.

Also, weapons consuming ammo. Random starting scenarios like handling a critically damaged spacecraft, imagine what trouble it would cause crashing into an enemy base.

I hope Santa is good to you  ;D

I went with all energy-based weapons because I always thought it was a hassle maintaining ammo in most games. The starting scenarios thing is a neat idea, but there already is a story about being brought to the planet to restore peace -- so if there were different starting scenarios, it should line up with the overall story.

I got an azerty keyboard.

Hrm... OK. I'll put some fix for this on the to-do list. My "help" image is currently a fixed image, so messing up the keys may require a re-do of the help system. Or, I just may add a checkbox for different keyboard layouts (that would put the keys in the right position, at least).

I'll post again in here when I get the next update out -- which will mostly be multiplayer fixes. Once that is underway, onto the ships and radioactive biomes  8)

Thanks all,
- Phr00t

Santa is always nice! :D
Also i hope the easter bunny comes with the Penumbra series next year ;)

The weird flying devil things could have shot your spacecraft too! :P

Whales, i wish something for Christmas, an option(maybe a command line option?) for toggling dogs, i am very weak with the dogs. I really dont like starting with a dog, nor fighting a wild one, they are infact the leading cause of my characters suicides/teleporting away. Its just some traumatic experiences with my childhood dog that still haunts me even here in this christmas, 2-3 years after he died of old age, oh god i miss him..

New negative trait: Greed - You will have a low morale without possesing items of high value, bling bling and unique crafts would counter this. Like a hoarder syndrome but with gold and stuff.

Maybe even a new kind of traits: Personality

Personality traits like Nerdy, wich causes morale drop if you dont have "nerdy" stuff like comics, gadgets and when you havent used a computer for very long time
City person: Morale drop when in the wilderness, eating raw food, cooking, using weapons and when doing other "primitive farmer/redneck things"

If you just had steam or something so i could stay more in touch with you (and your game)
Its like when my mom pours candy into a bowl, she gives me some, but i want alot more, i ask for more, get more, i want to ask for more or just grab the bowl and empty it, but i am afraid of making her annoyed :S

Also Ruins full of treasure, and of course an earth fragment guarded by mad precursor robots.

Everyone may join this one. There once was this great indie that suffered as a result of being inspired by DF. Despite the fact that it was quite different, many people wouldn't give it a chance. The game recently entered into paid development with a huge leap in design and gameplay. I always like the idea of it before, but with the 0.37 version I finally feel like it's a game and the dev team tells me they are just getting started. I know that many of you don't like the idea of paying for beta access so here is your chance to get the game(and it's future versions) for free. The generous SMP team have donated 3 5 copies plus 2 copies of Terraria!

To enter, just leave say so in a post here. The winners will receive a code to redeem on Desura or a Terraria key by private message here. You may give or trade your prize however you like. Contest ends @ 0900 EDT (GMT -5) December 5th, 9th!
ATTENTION: I don't normally do this but I am extending the contest until Friday at the same time 9am EDT(GMT-5). Why you ask? Because I have an additional 2 copies of Towns and 2 copies of Terraria to give away!!!!
Good luck and thanks again to Alex and the SMP team!

SO MUCH IN THAT I AM GOING TO GET A LIFE SUPPORT BROWNOUT IN 3079 AGAIN!
