Another one of these threads that can be solved with one word: MAGMA.

And now most of the time I do 1x1 mineshafts to the magma sea, unless i have a volcano nearby. But mineshafts are good. They are quickly built, not too difficult to set up, not dangerous at all unless some idiot dodges into it, they can have dump zones on multiples stories, and they need less management than atom smashers, and you do not get fire imps or fire men climbing out of them.

Be also sure your dump falls on semi molten rock and magma flow, if then the magma-safe part of dumped refuse will not be destroyed.

Magma corridor.

I was playing fortress defense, and was having loads of tigermen and frogmen riding giant desert scorpions sieging at the same time.

I create a looong labyrinthine corridor, rely it to the local volcano via lever-pullable iron doors, then put fortifications so the magma can take the shortest path through the labyrinthine walls and trap invaders trying to flee to the entrance, since there was only one path.

I did however, forget to laugh maniacally as the magma burned them.

Lawful Good ? Bah ! They are Lawful Neutral (or more likely True Neutral) at best. They might have a lawful good streak, but they are not.

Seriously, what would a lawful good sentient do when losing it's whole family ? Probably go depressed for some time, but not go beat some random dwarf's face into a bloody mess. And the nobles are so snotty, annoying and greedy it's difficult to believe they are lawful good.

Also, they consider lying to not be a problem, that is most likely NOT a Lawful Good trait, and oath-breaking is punishable by death as ethics, which is way too extreme to be lawful good.

Anyways, I tend to have my noble tombs next to the nobles's room, and both designated rooms overlap. Instant value gain without any unnecessary work. Just be sure to smooth and engrave with good engravers, spam good quality furniture (gold statues, etc) and your noble won't need a very large room. Like 20 tiles should be enough for any noble.

Hey, it's just a cave spider. It's very harmless, unable to kill anything but vermin, and quite useful for silk.

Same for bees.

What you have to worry about are giant cave spiders, and toxin forgotten beasts/titans.

Armor doesn't protect against blunt attacks. You might want a shield and moar dodging skill and agility.

Poults are so small they will only drop skulls on death, so be sure to put craftsdwarf's workshops close to your birdfall.

On the other hand, this is excellent for training bone carvers and having loads of free junk (namely, poult totems) to sell to the caravan.

Hello there, fellow Dwarf Fortress modders. I am having a bit of a problem with a giant mosquito demon I created. Namely, the sting attack doesn't work. They push enemies or even wrestle them with their wings (!) but don't use the sting attack. Maybe it has something with me having failed to put on the proboscis on them.

Lock your squad in danger room. Wait till they have legendary shield user. Remove shields. Wait till they have legendary fighter, legendary weapon skill. Put back shields and free them from the DR. Problem solved.

Make an empty mineshaft to the magma sea. Mark the top of it (and at least one adjacent floor square) as a garbage dump. Dump your excess magma safe stone into it. Problem solved.

You can also make an atom smasher, but I prefer the magma sea method cause it's easier.

I've done a little modding this afternoon/evening and I give you standard demons to make hell more dangerous/frightening/Bad Ass !

Note: No testing has been done for now, and more demons will come. I am just a bit sick of the decidely non-terrifying giant feathered blue ticks, or towering hairy leechs with golden hair, or green scaly koalas.
How to add them in your game : Create a new folder in your raw/objects folder, named something like "creature_underworld". Paste the spoiler contents into it. Save. Generate a new world. Open HFS, possibly with the number of demons reduced to zero. Enjoy.
